The Fire That Chose Me
Evelynn collapsed against him, shaking, her tears damp against his neck.
He held her tightly, rocking her as though she were fragile crystal. “I’ve got you. I’ve always got you.”
She drew in a trembling breath, forcing herself to meet his gaze. “That stone… it’s alive. And it knows me.”
His eyes flicked to the jagged rock, his expression like steel. “Then we destroy it before it claims you.”
The ground hummed beneath their feet, as if the stone had heard him. Evelynn flinched, the fire in her veins sparking hot, ready to betray her again.
