Fernandez told me you hate pets” I asked him and he looked toward the corner where the cat was already fast asleep before turning back to me and shrugging. “I'll manage. I'm not allergic so it's not a hassle” he said and I hiccuped again. Did the stone cold Michael Rover just tell me he would let me into his personal space with a cat when he despised pets.

It is precisely this rock that has changed her.” Mya was enlightened. “The rest of the comrades don’t have this rock on their bodies so their vital signs are slowly fading after a few years because the radiation can’t reach them. On the other hand, Gloria has this rock so she… Is that right?”

The sight was breathtaking and horrifying. Raven Rock was not just a base. A gigantic fortress of metal and glass had been carved into the mountainside. Floodlights swept the sky and the surrounding forest. At the center of the complex stood a towering antenna like spire, its peak pulsing with red light, the same red that had powered the inhibitors during the assault on the Nest. But the most terrifying thing was the silence. There were no guards on the walls. No patrols. Only the low hum of machines drifted upward, like the breathing of a vast sleeping beast.
