Drake asks, his tone a little strange. "He said that I did a really good job today and that he's thankful I showed up the way I did," the woman says, and now she's smiling. "I just heard him all of a sudden, you know. I mean, we all know that we have a deaf and mute Alpha King who managed to take back his abilities through his mate. But I had no idea it was that fickle. I'm surprised I heard him too." She laughs and I get irrationally angry. Really livid. I clench my fists and look away just so I don't end up doing anything I would regret.

Ben leans over with a whisper, “I surely thought you would be Alpha Alexander’s mate. You’re the best candidate, and everyone loves you.” I close my eyes against the verbal attack, reminding myself that Ben doesn’t mean anything by his statement. He doesn’t know what’s going on, but still, I reach up and cover the already concealed mark on my neck. “There is nothing between me and Alpha Alexander,” I tell him, the truth painful. Ben hums then looks at my computer. The digital invitation to the Stormhowl Kingdom is pulled up, and he points at it with a chuckle, “You could find yourself a partner. Prince Vincent would be a great match for—”

Her gaze drifted to the tray of food I left untouched before focusing back on me. Her lips curved into a cruel mocking smile and she waved a finger at the two maids. “Drag her out!” My eyes widened in fear. Was the Alpha trying to mate me now? The thought made bile rise in my throat. “Wait—” I tried to protest but the maids weren't listening. They unfastened the chains that held my hands and cornered me like a predator, dragging me up to my feet. “Let me go!” I screamed, my bare feet scraping against the rough floor as they hauled me out of the cell.

The tears that were in my eyes fell freely as I sat on the floor with bleeding feet. Leon was about to say something else, but then stopped. He had a look on his face, and I knew that look very well. He was having a mind link. “It’s the Alpha King. He has sensed that his mate is inside this pack, and he’s coming to claim her in three days.” Nate’s POV It has been years, and my wolf has yearned deeply for a mate. For years, I have wanted a she-wolf to mark…to make her my own.

The vampire said icily, "The Predator is your target, not mine. His mate is my target, so, hand her over." "And why would I do that?" The Alpha King responded with the same intensity of coldness in his voice. "I want her dead. I want him to feel what we have all felt after he destroyed our families!" "Don't make me ask again, Damien." The vampire replied again, seemingly unperturbed about the pain in Alpha King's voice. "Just because you have a gift in speed doesn't mean anything, little vampy. I'm the Alpha King, and I will kill you within a heartbeat!"

The Alpha says as though he was defending his case before he turns back to me, the anger in his face was the same as the day everything changed so I knew if I didn’t listen, things would not turn out well. “She will do nothing of the sort! You do not own her Alpha Stephan, she is my mate, so if anybody was to own her, it would be ME. She is to remain by me regardless; of orders you wish to give her. If you dare take another step, I will rip you apart.” The King spits right at Alpha Stephen, his body now placed in front of mine to fully block my path, even though I knew he was my mate; to hear him say the words, I was in shock all over again.

Her defiance. I turned sharply away from the window. “I’m the Alpha king. I don’t get attached. I can have any woman,” I snapped. ‘Yes,’ Jackie replied calmly. ‘But this one is already under your skin. She’s not just any woman… She's our mate.’ My fists clenched. ‘Once a mate bond sinks too deep,’ Jackie continued, ‘even an Alpha King can’t cut it.’ “Enough,” I growled aloud. I didn’t want Violet because of some cursed bond.

“You will have a kingdom worth inheriting. And a father who never lets go.” He sat back, the faintest trace of a smile touching his lips. Outside, the dawn crept slowly across the horizon, the storm’s edge retreating into light. Inside, the Alpha King of Obsidian Ridge watched his sleeping mate and vowed silently that no power—witch, wolf, prophecy, or fate—would ever take her or their children from him.

“Alpha Logan, I understand what you mean, but if I must say, I think we shouldn't rush into things that might cost us our lives.” Logan took a quick glance in my direction. I could see the anger in his gaze. “What did you just say? Are you, perhaps, scared of the Alpha king?” “With all due respect, Alpha Logan. Though you are an Alpha and I know you are an Alpha, then, we must come to the understanding that the person we are referring to is the Alpha King.” “Alpha King or not, he's in possession of my mate, and I don't let him keep her in his pack, she is mine!”
