Tim managed it the way he managed everything, by not allowing it to interrupt the surface of things, but Daniel could see it underneath, in the tightness around his eyes and the way he had been checking his phone more frequently than usual.
End of the week Tim had said.
It was Thursday.
Daniel looked at him for a moment and then looked at the bookshelf and said, “What are you reading?”
Tim looked up. “Gibbon,” he said.
