She came to me with a first aid kit.

Theo said, helping me to the closet I changed and started the journey home, sitting in the bus wasn't so painful. But walking to my apartment was where the pain surfaced. I fell to the floor just outside the building. Heaving myself up from the floor, I used the wall as a support on steadied myself on my two feet. With my left hand placed on my bleeding shoulder I walked gently through the hallway and in a few seconds I saw my apartment. I felt something odd and increased my pace.

Chapter One: The Witness The blood was still wet on the pavement when Poesy turned the corner. She stopped. Her heels clicked once, twice on the concrete, then went silent. The man on the ground wasn’t moving. The other man standing over him held a gun, barrel still smoking in the streetlight. Their eyes met. Poesy’s heart slammed against her ribs. She should run. Scream. Do something other than stand there like an idiot. The man with the gun pulled out his phone.

Chapter 46: The Waiting The sun rose on the second day. I didn't remember the first night passing. Didn't remember darkness becoming light. I just knew I was still here. Still on my knees. Still staring at the water. "Ma'am." Another officer. How many had tried now? "You need medical attention. You're bleeding—" Was I? I looked down. My knees were raw. Skin torn open from kneeling on concrete. The blood had dried black. I didn't feel it.

Author POV The road was empty. Not just quiet, empty in a way that felt abandoned by the world itself. Wind dragged through the broken streetlights, carrying the scent of rain and rust, whispering through shattered glass and crumbling concrete. A figure emerged from the darkness. His movement slow and unsteady. A hood shadowed his face, soaked fabric clinging to his body. Each step left a faint trail behind him, water… and blood. It dripped from his side, soaking into the ground like a silent confession.

Her eyes fluttered like it was the last flicker of a dying candle. And the blood. So much blood that it seeped into the cracks of the stone pavement. “NO” I threw myself down to where she lay and gathered her in my arms. I shook like a leaf in a storm trying to stop the bleeding with my hands even though I had no bloody idea where it was all coming from.

What if I bled out here in this alley? What if this was how my story ended? Just as I emerged from the alley onto a quieter street, a silver Rolls-Royce suddenly appeared, blocking my path.

Footsteps tapped on the boardwalk above our heads, but I didn’t move, I just stayed focused on the one field of vision I had—the sidewalk that led to the Aquarium. Even as I prayed that they’d leave me alone, that they’d think we’d gone elsewhere, I knew that wasn’t in my future. My future was blood red. In the near distance, above the roar of the ocean and the sporadic flood of screams as bullets cascaded into the sand, I heard brakes squealing. The cops? They were too late to save me from myself though. A guy walked down the sidewalk. He paused, looked over the underpass to the left, then, he twisted to the right. The second he did?

He blurts out, posing his shoulder to me, “Get yourself together, I'll be back in a few minutes.” “Bastián!” I screamed watching him leave, taking Liv by force, holding her arm, crying and asking for help, “BASTIAN!” I stammered, spitting blood, I moved my body until I was lying on the ground, I crawled, I didn't get very far, I gave up, I had bled too much, I painted a path of blood until I was face up in the middle of the street, the dark sky was etched in my mind as my eyelids lowered against my will to stay awake, here longer.

I muttered. “You need to see a doctor, you’re bleeding.” He replied. “It’s just a scratch, I’ll handle it. Just help me to the sidewalk and you can leave.” I said pointedly. The guy sighed, leaned down and gave me a hand. I took his hand and tried to stand up. A stab of pain shot through me as I stood up and started walking towards the sidewalk with the help of the stranger.
