A Queen Among Snakes
Once out, I put the slippers on and after taking a few wrong turns, eventually, make my way out of the packhouse.
I wander aimlessly along the water’s edge. The weather is perfect, and the sky is clear, making the night feel tranquil. It’s funny how that works. Here I am, unable to sleep because of the horrors I relive when I close my eyes, and when I open them all I feel is the echo of those horrors and yet looking around it’s like they mean nothing. My world can fall apart night after night, but the world itself remains the same. The sun will rise and fall, and stars will twinkle in the sky. My world changes, but only mine.
