My inside shrivels. I should’ve felt guilt, but all I felt was heat pouring out of Tommy. That stillness, it wasn’t normal. It was a symptom of dog syndrome.
I felt that strong urge to protect him. That was my job as his doctor.
“I’ll explain later,” I said.
I moved out of the bathroom, pulling Tommy along with me down the corridor, out the back door, and into the car park.
