A silly little game, that is all it was supposed to be but it turned to so much more. It was four years ago and I was fourteen. It was my brother's going away party. At sixteen male werewolves go to academy to serve in the military and prepare for their adult roles in the pack. My brother Bo and his best friend Drake were leaving the next day. The adults had already called it a night and the teenagers had somehow ended up in the basement playing truth or dare, typical dumb kid stuff. "I don't know any of the names you said." "I don't even know. Um, why don't we try basketball?" He sat on the chair and said, "There's a basketball game listed in the list?" "Yeah, it's something under the nba. Want to play?" "No, you'll win." I laughed and said, "I haven't played like this so I don't think I'll win. Don't worry." He stood and said, "Okay. Let's try that."

The moment his fingers touched the clasp, Charlotte said, "Keep wearing it." Then she looked at me. "Whoever won it gets to keep it." I let out a soft laugh. The whole room fell silent. Charlotte's eyes turned cold. Lyra frowned. "George, we were just playing a game. Why do you have to make things so awkward?" Then she stepped in front of Connor. Her voice stayed gentle, but her words carried a warning. "Connor has always been insecure. He's finally happy today. Can't you just let him have this?"
