As much as I wanted to remain resilient and stand my ground, the tray in my hand kept trembling, giving away that I was scared. He gaze dragged from my face to the trembling tray in my hand before letting out a dark chuckle. A dark chuckle embedded in mockery. “You're trembling, sunshine.” He pointed out but I shook my head, refusing to accept defeat. “No, I'm not. I'm not stable enough to hold the tray with you seizing me up like a fucking predator.” I tried to be rid my fears, comforting myself with my own words. “Language, Vana!” His eyes flicked from dark to darkness itself and it wasn't helping matters, as sweat clouded my forehead and my breathing became ragged.

As he slowly withdrew, I felt the warm, viscous fluid trickle out of my hole. My legs trembled uncontrollably, threatening to buckle beneath me.

The tremors continued, a constant, ominous reminder of the ticking clock. The rhythm mic tremor, once a subtle unease, had escalated into a relentless pulse that vibrated through the very bones of the subterranean world. Dust rained from the ceiling, coating everything in a fine layer of grey, a constant reminder of their precarious existence. The Lumina, normally resilient and resourceful, were beginning to show the strain. Their faces, usually alight with a soft inner glow, were etched with exhaustion and fear.

​“It’s bracing.” ​The doorway shuddered, a violent tremor that rattled my very soul. And then, from the other side, something pushed back.

My legs tremble, my body shaking as I feel myself edging closer to the edge. “Aiden,” I breathe, the words catching in my throat.

- I felt my skin crawl all at once at his gruff voice. Various things went through my mind, with the dread of being discovered. My body trembles because it knows I'm in trouble.

The last word settled heavily in the room. The pressure increased. The man’s body trembled violently, his lips parting as he tried to speak, but no sound came out.

His arms wrapped tighter around me as we tumbled before coming to a stop. I squeezed my eyes closed as hard as I could and braced for my punishment. I felt his body trembling, and I knew he must be angry. I felt his nose press against my head and realized his breaths were stuttering, and he wasn't reacting. It felt like something was wrong. Something was urging me to look, so I did. Slowly, I pulled my head back, and when I did, my stomach dropped. I realized he wasn't trembling because he was angry; he was trembling because he was sad and trying not to cry. Why would he be sad?

My whole body trembled, and I was on the verge of crying. "I think, I have just become jobless…" I burst into tears.

“We can feel you through the bond. You’re upset. And you’re terrified. The bond feels like a live wire right now.” Caden’s hands, usually so expressive, slid into his pockets, his jaw tightening as he studied me with an almost agonizing perceptiveness. “You’re shaking, Amara,” he added quietly, his voice layered with deep concern, his eyes fixed on my hands. “Your pulse is erratic.” I looked down at my hands—sure enough, they still trembled faintly, no matter how hard I tried to still them, no matter how desperately I willed my body to obey. The subtle tremors were a betrayal.
