Damon The floor trembled beneath my feet. The flickering candles scattered around the ritual circle burst one after another, spilling hot wax across the wood and shattering glass vials into glittering shards. Morwein’s voice, once sharp and commanding, faltered into a strangled gasp as the sigils that she had carved into the floor began to split and burn away, their crimson glow devoured by something greater, older, wild and furious. “No!” She shrieked, clutching her book of runes to her chest. “It’s breaking! The channel is collapsing…”

"Here!" My head snapped up, I glanced at Ben, our eyes met, then we rushed to Newt. The gangly professor was leaning over a scripture so old, the pages had coloured yellow. It was in a language I didn't understand, but Newt readout so fast it may as well have been English. "The Valderian, a warrior born every six years destined to find the stone cup." I glanced at Ben, confused. "I'm lost. What are we meant to bring them?"
