"It's Halloween!" Arin giggled happily rushing down the stairs, looking so cute in her mouse costume with the pink ballet shoes and tutu. Someone had painted mouse whiskers on her face, she was grinning and bouncing as she made her way through the employees, she was carrying a plastic Halloween pumpkin to be filled with miniatures candy bars. Ethan had been the first to drop a candy in it,then Irish. Others were prepared,they dropped candy bars into her pumpkin as she passed them .Her plastic Halloween pumpkin were almost full when she was done.

When Halloween rolls around, I invite Six to come get ready at my place since she’s going to have to do all my makeup and my parents are at some kind of charity event all evening anyway. She shows up around 4 with Theo, Kayla, Shaunice and a dude I don’t know who I assume is Shaunice’s husband in tow. Theo is dressed as superman and Kayla is some sort of princess and Shaunice and her husband are wearing fancy clothes and crowns so I assume they’re meant to be King and Queen. Six is carrying a bag that I assume has her costume and a bunch of makeup in it. She tells me that we should put on our costumes first because if we do it after we might smudge the makeup.

But hanging from a rack in the corner were outfits that wouldn’t look out of place at a very expensive, very adult Halloween party: leather corsets, sheer lace dresses that hid absolutely nothing, Venetian masks with feathers and chains. I walked forward like I was stepping on holy—or explosive—ground. On the bench sat two plastic garment bags. One for me. One for Samy. I unzipped mine and pulled out the “uniform.” If you could call it that. A plunging leather bralette-style top, black thigh-high stockings that turned sheer the second I touched them, and a micro-skirt that barely covered the essentials. Under the bench: sky-high stilettos that screamed “break an ankle or own the room.”
