As it could be spread via water, bodily fluids, and air, humans decided that besides purifying agents, they had to practise eugenics to prevent becoming extinct.

She collapsed onto the relatively dry edge of a massive root, staring out into the night. She had survived the fall. She had survived the quicksand. She had survived the Alpha.
