Alice The bar’s atmosphere was a blend of quiet jazz and whispered ambition. Shadows clung to the velvet booths, hiding secrets in their folds. Alice Florence adjusted her dress, lifting her martini glass as she studied the woman opposite her. Veronica Duval was not merely beautiful. She was a weapon, polished and deadly, wrapped in couture. Recently returned from Geneva, Veronica brought a storm of curiosity and influence. A shareholder in the Anderson-Hidalgo venture, her opinion could sway investors like the tide.

It sent the wrong message. Felix walked beside me with an umbrella I didn't take from him. The bar was quiet at this hour. Low lighting. Private booths along the back wall. The kind of place where conversations happened that never made it into any official record. She was in the last booth. Vera Sinclair was somewhere between fifty and ageless. Silver hair worn like a deliberate choice rather than an admission. Dark eyes that watched everything without appearing to watch anything. She was dressed simply and expensively in the way of someone who had nothing left to prove about money.

* I took the document case and walked the rest of the way without looking back. Vera is maybe sixty, with short grey hair and eyes that take inventory of everything they land on. No jewelry. No ceremony robes. She's sitting at a plain folding table in a tent that could belong to any mid-level pack administrator, nothing on the walls, two chairs and a lamp. The spelled safe in the corner is the only thing that looks expensive. She watches me set the case on the table without moving. "Luna Whitmore," she says. "I've heard interesting things about you."

"I have been waiting for you." I stared at her. "Who are you?" She stepped closer. "My name is Vera. I am your sister." "Sable is my sister." "Sable is your clone. I am your blood." Rex raised his gun. "Do not move." Vera held up her hands. "I am not here to hurt you. I am here to help." "Help us how?" She reached into her pocket. Rex tensed. She pulled out a photograph. Anna. Young. Pregnant. Smiling.

Moments feel like hours. Jaxson's body burns with anguish as both he and Fenrir feel the light she ignited wither away. "Valerie-… Just a little longer. Please!" Jaxson words fall into a desperate plea, refusing to believe this is it for her. But it's hard to accept that when her lips, skin, and hair are all frozen. Her body is still. Inert. Dead. She's dead. "V-Valerie," Theia whispers. She falls to her knees beside her head. Neither acknowledges the flock of Harpies watching them.

Only their eyes moved but the stoic appearance and immovable stance remained the same. "Hello, Faye! We meet again! Hahaha!" Quickstep replied to the beautiful girl. "Have you seen my daughter also, Quickstep? Come, Valeri!" Vera was not to be outdone by her greatest rival. "I'm here, mother. How are you, Quickstep?" Valeri went forward and paraded in silky transparent thin clothes. Her ripe allure would capture any man's attention. She was born to be a goddess. "I'm great, Valeri! It's already late but both of you are still awake. You will not grow taller that way." Quickstep responded to the lovely girl.

She excitedly tells me, her strawberry blonde curls bouncing around her heart shaped face. Christine is really a lovely lady. She is short, probably barely five feet tall, and dainty. Her facial expressions are quite entertaining, her freckled nose crinkled up and it wouldn’t take an empath to tell that what she was thinking about was icky. Confused, I gawk at her. “Warrior?” I ask. “Yeah, Bobby Ray told me that Deputy Scott found your camera and there was a video of you kicking the shit out of those two guys.” She explains.

She hissed as Mateo caught the gun before it could reach the floor. He put his cold hand around her nape and pulled her forward – until her forehead was inches away from his. Faith shrieked and gaped. He placed the gun on her throat. Faith gasped as Mateo pressed the barrel into her throat, “You are not as smart as you think,” He commented, “You have a lot more to learn, Foxy.” He added.

"I'd like to see you try, baby girl" "Seems like I have two guys on my hit list now," Uncle Jerry said, and we couldn't help but laugh at his reaction. The four of us kept talking, and the more I learned about Vera, the more she seemed like a wonderful person. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching movies, and volunteering at the animal shelter. She seems to be too good to be true, so I've decided to keep an eye on her just in case. After dinner, the maid came to collect our plates, and Vera suggested a midnight movie, but I was too tired to stay awake long enough for a movie.
