You used her for publicity, for your image, like she was nothing but a prop.” He shook his head weakly, trying to speak, but the shadows around his throat silenced him. “You killed her child, Hyperion,” I spat, my rage bubbling to the surface. “You erased her memories, took away her life, and left her with nothing.” I saw the regret in his eyes, but it wasn’t enough. It would never be enough. “You’re not a hero,” I snarled. “You’re a villain. Just like the G.H.C. You pretend to fight for justice, but you’re all the same. All of you. You’re nothing but killers and liars.”

Words like psycho and stalker were attached to it, repeated over and over until they started to feel like fact. I imagined her watching it unfold in real time, trying to figure out how to defend herself without looking guilty. I almost felt sorry for her. Almost. The thing about narratives is that once people decide who the villain is, they rarely change their minds. And I had given them a villain wrapped in just enough “evidence” to feel righteous about it.
