Through the Key, Elara could "see" the bridge of the ship miles above. She saw the confusion in the sailors' eyes as their consoles turned violet. She saw her mother, Sarah Vance, staring in horror as the ship’s Automated Weapons Systems (computer-controlled turrets and cannons) began to track a new target: the Navy’s own support fleet.
"Elara, stop!" Kazimir grabbed her shoulders, forcing her to break the connection. The violet veins on the walls dimmed, but the infection on the ship remained. "You’re going to kill them all! Your mother is on that deck!"
