As I climbed up the stairs heading back to my room, the loud moans coming from the east wing could not be mistaken. My husband had another woman in his bed on our wedding night. I laughed bitterly at the joke that was my life right now.

"I know you said you didn't want to drink, and it probably wouldn't be best for you to be around if you're just going to get sick. We'll call for you if we need you though!" I stood up from the table and marched upstairs; not because I was dismissed by her. No, but because I was too tired to argue and be around her anymore. Tonight was supposed to be my night of making happy memories with MY husband, but not only did she have to hijack our wedding night, but she had to steal his attention, too. When the door behind me clicked shut, I finally found myself feeling some kind of relief. Still, the tension never left my shoulders, and my heart never stopped hurting.

I was no longer married. No worse. I had been married and discarded within the same night. Naomi sat beside me, watching carefully. “Do you want to talk?” I stared at the wall opposite us, my reflection faint in the darkened television screen. A woman in a wedding dress, makeup smudged, eyes hollow. “I don’t know how,” I said honestly. Silence settled between us not uncomfortable, just heavy. After a moment, Naomi stood. “I’ll get you something to change into. And wipes. And ice cream. In that order.”

Alora’s POV: Last night was my wedding night, but my husband disappeared. I woke up to the first rays of dawn spilling through the curtains of the room that was supposed to mark the beginning of my new life. The bed next to me was cold and untouched, a stark reminder that Alpha Mathias Darkwood, my husband, hadn’t even bothered to show up.
