He looked up at me and spat out a chunk of the man, and nodded, ready to go. I walked on, opening doors to make sure they were clear as we passed, knowing Xander and Elias probably had Balista cornered in one of them. I kicked in a door to the left, and no one was there. "Clear!" A few wolves ran past, but Seven stayed on my flank. Gunfire, growling, shouts, and screams echoed off the walls in the warehouse as we made our way through. I kicked open a door to the right. Nothing. "Clear!" Then I came to another door across the hallway and heard voices. I kicked it open, and Xander and Elias were standing there nude, having just shifted, and Balista and Sasha were backed against the wall.

“You’ve watched way too many Sci-Fi movies, man.” He laughs. “Maybe, but...what if I’m right?” Weston wags his eyebrows at me. “What if every little decision you make from here on out will have an effect on the future, including you pretending you don’t want me.” My heart crashes against my ribcage, and I open my lips, about to lie and tell him I don’t want him. But I can’t. The other Weston’s words ring inside my head and every part of me ashed. He said his younger version is already in love with me...could that be true?

She opened it carefully, her hands trembling. The note was written in hurried script: The truth is in the West Wing. Do not trust him. Her breath caught. She pressed the note to her chest, her mind racing. Someone was helping her. Someone wanted her to know what Damon was hiding. She refolded the paper quickly and slipped it beneath the mattress. Fear mingled with hope, the two threads twisting until she could hardly tell them apart. The West Wing. The place Damon had forbidden, the place he guarded with such intensity. Whatever truth he wanted to bury was there.

A king-sized canopy bed, heavy silk curtains, and a massive window overlooking the dark gardens. My mother gave me a quick peck on the cheek. "It’s all yours, honey! Get some rest, tomorrow will be a big day!" she said before leaving, arm-in-arm with her new husband. I closed the door and leaned my back against it. The silence enveloped me. "West Wing," I repeated to myself. Frederick was far away. Rusty was on another floor. For the first time that day, I let out a choked sob, burying my face in my hands.

“Safira.” “No, answer me.” I took another aggressive step forward, forcing him to look down at me. “If you’re so certain you don’t want me, if I truly mean nothing to you, then why send me all the way to the West Wing?” Azrael looked over his shoulder at his guards and gave them a sharp, dismissive wave. The men instantly retreated down the hall. The moment they were out of earshot, he grabbed my arm and hauled me close, his grip bruising. “You don’t listen, do you?” He let out a frustrated, animalistic growl. “I’m sending you to the West Wing for your own safety.”
