Like if you experience nightmares, you can make a deal with them and they can eat your nightmares and in turn, repay you by giving you pleasant dreams to soothe your mind. In turn, one can also give them memories they want to forget. If they eat your memories, depending on the deal you made with them, it would be very hard to get them back. Dream catchers on the other hand catch dreams that have been sent to someone by witches or other bad spirits that want to torment someone.
