He brought a partner with him. With a sigh, I light a cigarette and sit and sit down, staring out over the city that never sleeps. We’re high enough so the noise doesn’t really reach us, but not so high that I can’t hear anything. I glance at my watch. It’s just past two in the morning. Too late for a Scotch and too early for coffee. But not too late to phone Amato. This is our regular business hours.

It was worse than the previous one. I did try to get up but then immediately felt as if I’d pass out. I don’t feel sleepy, yet feel sluggish to take a step. God knows how I managed to prepare another cup of herbal tea for myself. As I pull my legs up to my chest after kicking off the slippers, I hear my doorbell ring. Sleep eludes me, and I find myself tossing and turning, unable to find solace in the darkness. Finally, surrendering to the futility of sleep, I reluctantly rose from the bed. Glancing at the clock, I discovered that it was a mere few minutes past 2 in the morning. Realizing that sleep would remain elusive, I made a decision. The gym seemed to beckon, offering an escape from the overwhelming emotions that plagued my restless mind.

When I looked up at the wall clock, it was around 3 AM already. And since it was very late, I decided to close the door of my room, turn off the light, and try to get some sleep. “Tried” being the operative word... After a while, I found that I still couldn’t sleep, and it was already 3:16 AM. I figured I won’t be able to sleep if I kept forcing myself to, so I turned on the PC again and continued my game. I didn’t turn on the lights anymore because I was too lazy at the time.

At night, at around 10 AM, I receive an alert from Aiden that he can't sleep and is coming to meet me over a very important issue. I tried to ask what is it but he didn't reply, he just said he is coming, since I have an important event to attend tomorrow, early in the morning, I asked him not to spend much of my time. I need to be asleep before 11:30 PM latest so I can consume sufficient hours of sleep and be best prepared for tomorrow.
