I closed my eyes in resignation as I asked, “How much vanilla powder did you use, princess?”

From my seated position, the cookies are at perfect eye level, and against my better judgment, I pick one off the top of the pile. It's dark brown and brittle. A few pieces flick off as I lower the cookie closer to the small plate my cup of coffee sits on. Burnt doesn't begin to describe the abomination in my hand. It looks like she put the cookie through torture. "What kind are they?" I ask before bringing the cookie to my lips. "Chocolate chip." Tabitha grins, looking down at the plate. "They're a little burnt." A little burnt is an understatement. That's like saying the Titanic nudged an icicle.

“Someone has to. You work too much.” Kai took a bite of the cookie and groaned softly in satisfaction. “Okay, I’m not even exaggerating. These are amazing. You’re magic, Lily.” I giggled and leaned my head against his shoulder. “They’re your favorite, remember? But when I stop to look around properly, I can see that we are pretty much there. The large mason jars on the counter are now filled with different types of cookies. A couple of the cake stands hold vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with a variety of brightly coloured icings. The remainder of the cake stands hold a lemon and poppy seed, red velvet, double chocolate and Victoria sponge apiece. The large fridge is filled with all manner of goodies; individual lemon meringue tarts sit beside chocolate brownies and treacle tarts and much more.

Her eyes sparkled as she lifted him slightly. “Alright, young master, let’s see what special treat Seb whipped up for you this morning. Bunny-shaped cookies—chocolate ones. Think we should try them first?” Alan wrinkled his nose, hesitant at first, but the sight of the little bunny-shaped treats made his eyes light up. A wide grin spread across his face. “Cookies?
