“Maybe I just woke up on the good side of the bed,” I whispered, still smiling.
I got up, pulled my hair into a loose bun, and opened the window. The breeze brushed my skin, cool and clean. Birds were chirping outside. It was peaceful.
For the first time in days, I didn’t want to think. I just wanted quiet. So I reached for a book I’d left unfinished on the nightstand, a novel I’d been too distracted to touch for weeks, and sat down by the window to read.
