She thanks him, closes the door, and sets the package on the bed.
“Elijah,” I whisper, my legs weakening beneath me as I back away from the package. A sick sense of dread unfurls in my chest, choking the air from my lungs.
Zoe raises an eyebrow at my reaction, her gaze shifting between me and the package with mild curiosity. “It’s just a painting, Piper. Calm down.”
She rips open the packaging, revealing the painting inside.
My breath catches, my heart stopping as my eyes land on the image.
