One Shift, One Night
Leslie barked, her hands shaking with rage as she grabbed her designer handbag.
"Gabriel, I am giving you one last warning. Put her down, or we are finished!"
I looked up at Leslie, my face settling into a cold, unbreakable mask. "I think you should leave, Leslie. The date is over."
Leslie let out a harsh, disbelieving gasp, stamped her heel against the ground, and stormed out of the courtyard, her angry footsteps echoing in the sudden silence she left behind.
I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding, looking down at the little girl in my arms. Her breathing was slowing down, but she was still trembling slightly.
