After what felt like an eternity, Fred replied, "We can talk about it when you get back." To reach home, I had to navigate a narrow path that was shrouded in darkness, void of any light. In my hazy state, I caught a glimpse of Fred's familiar figure making his way down the path. He knew I was afraid of the dark and had come to guide me home. I reached out my hand, but the figure vanished again, leaving me standing alone on that dim path. I couldn't remember the last time Fred had come to fetch me like this. Pushing through the fear, I finally made it home.

The Little Mermaid popped out at me, as did The Emperor's New Clothes, but I thought maybe a story that people are foolish in public wouldn’t be the best choice. Then I looked around some more and picked up Floca’s Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11, Lewis’s The Wolf, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Dahl’s Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and a few others. I paused at the Harry Potter series, but while the girls were old enough, being werewolves, for the story, I knew the sizes of the books would put them off. Next year, I thought. They’d have handled textbooks by then and wouldn’t be so rapidly opposed to books an inch thick or more.

I didn’t make it far, just up to an abandoned park, it’s where my car died, it wouldn’t start anymore but it was okay, that’s as far as I’m going from here. Lulu, my stuffed grey wolf with purple eyes was my one and only loyal friend, she was with me when I spent the six dollars, when I was too hungry and was ready to beg for food. She was also hidden in my backpack when I applied for the job in the local library, I always had a weak spot for the books and stories, when they took me I couldn’t be happier.

The Lewis family did not pay much attention to many things, but they sure loved their two grandkids a lot. David was a real piece of work, and nobody knew what kind of trouble he would bring when he got home. That night, my mother-in-law and Mandy came home, worried, and saw someone lying there. They thought it was David and figured they might have to do something drastic to keep their secret safe. However, after they were done with their deed, they found out that it was Edwin, who had returned after gambling. David was still out losing money at the gambling table. When they realized their mistake, my mother-in-law and Mandy were so upset. They cried and wished they could take it all back.

A photo was displayed on the top of the shelf. Carlene’s expression appeared extremely sorrowful. She stopped midway into the study room and took a deep breath. Then, she stretched out a hand to the bookshelf and a square hole suddenly appeared on the wall as if she had just pulled some sort of mechanism. Inside the hole sat a book. It was a wordless book—not a single word written in it. However, Carlene rifled through it gently as if she could read it. Soon after, she stopped at a page and brought over a glass of water that she splashed onto the page. Two names slowly appeared on the page after it was wet.
