The anticipation built within me as I imagined the impact I could have on these budding writers, just like Professor Williams had on me. The writing already knew where it had come from. Ms. Okafor let the conversation run for a few minutes — she did this, I was learning, let the room do the work when the room was capable of it — and then she said: "The thing about commitment in writing is that it's not about certainty. “Oh my God! What are you writing? It’s been…like fifteen years now?” “Yeah, it’s been hell with that piece! Every time I write it, I feel it’s not good enough. They keep writing and writing and writing for years and then one fine day, we get something. We call it a masterpiece.”

For making this writing thing feel less like shouting into the void and more like having a conversation with friends who GET IT. Because that's what you are. You're not just readers. You're my accomplices in this beautiful disaster of a story. You're the ones who make me want to write the next chapter, who inspire me when I'm stuck, who remind me why I love doing this in the first place. Writing can be lonely sometimes. You're in your head, with your characters, making them suffer for your entertainment (and yours), and sometimes you wonder if anyone else is going to care about these fictional people as much as you do.
