As if hit by someone, she felt a suppression enveloping her chest; she could no longer breathe, and her lungs seemed to have narrowed.

"Shelly, it wasn't supposed to be like this—" She thought I was dead. She thought she'd lost me, so she took her own life. I had killed her. "Alpha!" In hindsight, taking the enclosed VIP section of the restaurant was the best choice for this ill fated meeting, or we would have more than just a few pairs of eyes watching us. "Say that again," I hissed, my jaws clenched. "Fucking say it again!" He looked up to me, his eyes hidden by his dark lashes, the smoke from his cigar humming around my gun. Silence fell between us for a minute, before he suddenly stood up, covering the distance to me, till my gun was actually touching him, till he towered above me. "Your mother was a casualty. Collateral damage if you will. And you, sweetheart, are about to be yet another."

"Are you afraid?" "No," I said. "With you, I'm not afraid of anything." He smiled. Then he turned to face both forces and said something that left them all stunned. "I won't kill her. And I won't let her kill me. If you want us dead, kill us together." Caleb's expression changed. So did the Dragomir Elder's. "As you wish, then." The fight lasted less than ten minutes. However strong Lucian was, he couldn't hold off five hunters and six pureblood vampires at once. I tried to help him with the silver dagger, but Caleb kicked the weapon out of my hand and pinned me to the ground.
