"I'm staying," Damon replied, stretching out beside me on top of the blankets, careful to maintain distance. "Consider it penance for being a shitty mate."
We lay there in awkward silence, the overhead bulb casting harsh shadows, and I tried to make my breathing even, tried to pretend I might actually sleep with him this close.
"Tell me about the training," Damon said eventually. "What's Marcus actually teaching you?"
So I did, describing the advanced healing techniques, the way Marcus pushed me past what I thought were my limits, the satisfaction of mastering skills I'd never known existed.
