I am so hungry. “Yes?” He asks, grabbing one himself. “I don’t have a costume.” I say, and he smiles, while walking to the closet. He comes out with his own costume and underwear, laying it on the bed. Then he goes back to the closet, while I keep munching on food. He comes back out with another costume; the dress is dark purple, and the stockings are black. The dress has that princess feel over it, with a sweetheart neckline and lots of puff. He then goes back in a third time, and comes back out with three boxes.

So, Safira didn't want to interact much with Bryan tonight. Safira had put on a white costume with a yellow dot in the middle, but the material of this costume was too thin, she had been mistaken for not wearing underwear because she thought this costume would make her hot, she looked exactly like a sunny side egg. While Bryan wears a bacon-shaped costume. "Is it Halloween now?" sneered one of the seniors then laughed out loud. Safira's and Bryan's costumes became the highlight at the welcoming party for new students. Besides them, there were also other students wearing avocado, banana, and parrot costumes. It seemed that this party had turned into an arena to embarrass themselves.

Halloween week at Fantasy Island meant themed costumes, and Madam Fantasy had been clear: go big or go home. I adjusted my mask in the mirror. Black and silver, covering the top half of my face, with small silver chains that dangled near my temples. The mask was my safety. My shield. Without it, I was just Jane Puckett, broke college student. With it, I was Jailbird, whoever the hell I wanted to be. The dressing room smelled like hairspray and body glitter. Keiko was beside me, dressed as Catwoman, her mask sleek and minimal. Cammie had gone full Harley Quinn, complete with a baseball bat covered in rhinestones.

“Do I really look okay in this costume?” Claire self-consciously tugged at the hem of her skirt as it was a lot shorter than what she was comfortable wearing. Ever since they decided to go to the Halloween party, Jess has been stoked about the costumes, so she didn’t want to let her down by refusing to wear what she came up with, which turned out to be a Japanese-style maid costume. Jess, being a cute Asian-American, had no trouble looking good in it.

Even if I wish it wasn’t under these circumstances, it’s nice to be back at my best friend’s side again. Found it," she said in excitement and she turned around to show me a Vampire costume. It had a ridiculously sparkling red cape that made me want to laugh.

My friends and I had been laughing and screaming for twenty minutes straight, clutching each other’s arms as we stumbled through the maze of rooms themed around an abandoned asylum. I was dressed as a sexy nurse, a short white dress with red trim, thigh-high white stockings with little red crosses, garter belt holding them up, and a nurse cap pinned into my loose blonde waves. The costume was meant to be cute and flirty for Halloween night, but right now the thin fabric felt way too exposing as cold air brushed against my barely-covered ass every time we turned a corner.

"Really, no hot guys? At a costume party like this, where everyone’s either wearing masks or dressed as someone else, and still no one good-looking?" Gina sounded disappointed. "Maybe there are," Erik said, glancing back. There was Pinocchio with a fake nose, Link in a cheap costume, Mickey Mouse in a full-body suit, an actual clown, and a ghost who’d just cut two holes in a white sheet. And then there were the zombies—by far the most common—with pale faces, red scars, and blackened teeth.

J The miniature ghost stood defiant, hands on hips, with a fire in the deep brown eyes peering through the sheet holes that would have given most larger beings pause. But where the frayed sheet ended, a pair of long, gangly legs wearing pink “Hello Kitty” socks and blue thrift-shop sneakers comically softened the spirit’s fierce glare. “I wore this at Halloween when I was, like, ten,” sulked the irate specter. An elderly black woman with close-cropped curly white hair sighed in response as she looked down at her adopted granddaughter. “Jeannine LaRue, you’re the one who begged me to have a costume party for your birthday in the middle of summer, Lord have mercy.”

If anything, they reminded Zen about the overly expensive tourist trap wire sculptures that the overly wealthy patrons often bought from peddling sales folks in his restaurant. With nifty fingers, Zen adjusted the size of the copper armour and fitted it over his head. There were plenty of leftover daggers from the bird deliveries, so Zen chose a slightly bent blade that still fitted in a cracked wooden scabbard. It wasn’t the best gear but it was extremely convincing. Zen slathered on dirt from the ground and changed into rags. He removed his shoes and went barefooted, impressing the shady merchant. “Do I look like a convincing halfling?” Zen asked, giving a small twirl.
