Chapter 6: No Consequences

REBEKKA

It was as if time stood still in that moment and I felt every strained second of it.

I wished the earth would just open up and swallow me. How could Damon do something like that? I looked from him to Stephan and then back to him again.

Did he realize what he just did? It did not look like it did, if he did, he should be shaking in fear and pouring out apologies instead of standing his ground and getting ready for a fight.

Damon’s eyes narrowed as he watched Stephan, the way a wolf watches its enemy.

Stephan growled once more, the crimson in his eyes glowing more fiercely. He bared his teeth, “Mark my words… you are going to regret this!” he turned and then he stormed off.

“Lord Stephan,” I was propelled forward before I could even think. I needed to go after him, I ended up pleading with him, to explain that it was an accident and that Damon never meant to do that.

A strong hand caught a hold of my arm and held me back.

“Let him go, Rebekka…”

I turned around, my eyes were wide with surprise and confusion, “What are you saying? Do you just realize what you just did?” my voice trembled.

My heart was beating so violently in my chest, I was surprised that I was even able to let words out of my mouth.

“Let go of me, I have to go and beg him!” I yelled.

Damon’s grip on my arm remained, “You are making a bigger deal out of this than it is.”

I turned my head sharply to look at him again, my eyes were wide with disbelief, maybe I did not hear him right, “You just punched the son of the alpha… the heir to this pack right in the face!” my voice shot up a pitch.

“And?” Damon shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.

I let out a gasp of disbelief, “Do you have a death wish?” my voice dropped to being barely above a whisper.

My legs felt weak, the flight was out of my system, even if I wanted to now, I had no energy left to pursue after Lord Stephan. This was it, I was done for. My life was over.

“You are worrying too much about this, Rebekka. I told you, it is not a big deal. Stephan is not going to do anything!”

I looked up at him again, this time around, I felt a pang of fear and concern. Maybe I had this all wrong, maybe this Damon guy was simply crazy.

I don’t think he has understood a single thing that I said. If he did, he certainly would not be referring to the alpha’s son so casually.

“You should flee, you should leave the Half-Moon pack tonight!”

Damon scoffed and then smiled, “I am not going anywhere.”

I yanked my arm free from his grasp, “Don’t you get it, I am trying to save your life. You saved mine, please let me save you, leave! Tonight!”

“I am not going anywhere… There is no way that I am running from that boy.”

That Boy?

Was this guy serious? No… he must be crazy.

“Listen to me Rebekka, you need to calm down, okay. Nothing is going to happen. I told you, you are mine from now henceforth, I am going to keep you safe, Stephan would not do anything.”

My head felt woozy and I almost stumbled off my feet. “You are insane!” I said before I could stop myself.

Damon smiled sympathetically, “Don’t worry, it is all going to be fine, okay?”

“Nothing is going to be fine… you punched Lord Stephan in the face, there are going to be consequences!”

“Oh come off it, I don’t fear him!” Damon said dismissively.

“What about me? Have you thought about that? What about me?” my voice broke as tears began to stream down my cheeks.

“Rebekka…” his deep blue eyes showed concern as his deep voice softened.

“Have you thought about me? I am the one he was angry at… I am the one he knows, you can just run away and be safe but what about me? Do you care at all about my misery?”

“Rebe…”

I cut him off before he could even start, “Or is this all some game to you? It is a game, isn’t it? You don’t care how much you make me suffer so long as you get to have some fun.”

I shook my head and sniffled.

All this while I had been bothering myself with him, trying to repay him back in what little way that I could for saving my life but it seemed that I was worried about the wrong person the entire time.

What about me? I had nowhere to run to? No one to run to, nobody was going to save me from Lord Stephan’s wrath, I was as good as dead.

Could this day get any worse? At this point I was even afraid to ask because no matter how bad of a situation I found myself in, somehow it managed to get worse.

From being rejected to almost killing myself because of heartbreak only to be saved by Damon.

A man I considered my savior, the man who gave me my first kiss and then he took everything away when he attacked Stephan, what even possessed him to do something so reckless?

I stiffened when I felt his warm palms on my shoulders. The tears were still flowing down my cheeks freely.

“I want you to listen closely to what I am about to tell you, Rebekka, okay? I am not going to let anything happen to you. I told you, you are mine. I will do everything in my power to keep you safe.”

I could sense that he meant well but at this point, his well wishes were in vain, I pushed his hands off my shoulders, “There is nothing that you can do for me now!”

Rebekka was somewhere rocky, I thought I could see the layout of a mountain range, I thought I could guess which range it was but I needed more detail.I had never had any experience with the mating bond prior to Rebekka so I was flying blind here, it came and went as it pleased and I was at the mercy of whatever it decided to show me.There had to be a way for me to actively use it. To actively reach out to her, to find out more about where she was.“Don’t fucking leave me hanging, tell me where she is?” Damon yelled and held onto my shirt.I snapped out of my thoughts and squinted at him, “Get your hands off me!”“Tell me where Rebekka is,” he said. How did he know that I knew? “I am not telling you shit. This is of no concern to you.”“She is alive right? Is she well?” There seemed to be genuine concern in his voice. This pi

129 – BED OF ROCKS TO BED OF NAILSREBEKKA POVOnce again, I was running for my life.If someone would have told me that stepping foot outside the pack was going to be something like this, I would not have believed them.Since I ran away from Lady Vanessa, it had been from one trouble to another.I had almost died more than five different times in just the space of a few days.I didn’t know if I had escaped the hunters, I didn’t even know if I had escaped the thugs that Lady Vanessa sent after me.I didn’t know anything except for the fact that I was more lost now than I was a few days ago.The map in my possession was completely useless to me now, I didn’t know where I was, I hadn’t seen these mountains before in my life.I didn’t even know how to get back to the Shanti Tribe. I was tired, scared and hungry, this was not what I signed up for, this was not it at all.But I know that I could not stop, I could still hear the hunters behind me.“Lord Stephan, please!” I cried. Did he he

128 – MINE NOT YOURSDAMON POVI could not help but think that was too easy, that Lady Cecile let me off the hook too quickly.I know I was not at fault for the botched-up attempt to kidnap Gwen. That was purely on her people but at least, I expected a bit more outrage than I got, something told me that I would not like what her next move was going to be.But I could not worry about that now, all that was on my mind was Rebekka, I needed to see her and make sure that Vanessa did not try something smart.Vanessa was a snake and I did not trust her one bit. The fact that she remained resolute to come on the trip with us was proof enough that she was going to do something.I sighed as I walked towards the clinic and then pushed open the front door. Was it too much to hope that Rebekka was actually safe and sound?“You again… what do you want?”I smirked at the old man as I looked around, I took a deep long sniff, her scent was faint, she had not been here in a while.I frowned as another

Some things were better left unsaid to the lowly masses. As far as they knew, the Luna was returning from her humanitarian visit and her son – the one thought to be long lost - was returning with her.It was a momentous day for the pack, after being showered in praise and warm welcome nonstop for a while, my initial excitement of returning dulled and there was a dull ache in my heart. What could be taking away from my joy at a time like this, I wondered but then it occurred to me.I looked at Luna, “Mom,” I whispered.Luna Gwen turned to look a

126 – RUN FOR THE HILLSREBEKKA POVThe sudden change in my vision made me realize that my eye color has changed too, making the hunters around me nervous.“Could she be an alpha?” one stuttered in fear.“An alpha? What nonsense… this is a weak mutt,” the guy from before barked.“But her eyes,” they cautioned as they watched me.“Fuck her eyes, no way this is an alpha wolf.”My body was tingling all over, it wasn’t from the rough metal wires of the net that were cutting me all over, no, this was something else.Something that I had felt before, my head felt light and it was almost like I was having an out-of-body experience, I felt myself floating above the hunter’s settlement, floating above the highest tent that was pitched there.I could see all around me, the lush green grasses to the west and the mountain ranges to the east, what was happening, why did this feeling feel so familiar.“Kill the damned creature before she rips through this net and kill us all!” some of the hunters b

125 – HUNTER’S TRAPREBEKKA POVDid I lose them? I couldn’t help but think that. For a while now, since I had fallen down that slope, nobody had been attacking me.After the initial panic started wearing off, I had to admit to myself that I was lost, completely and utterly. The map that I had in my possession was useless to me now.If I could not find my way back to any of the packs that we had treated, there was no way I was going to be able to use the map.The thick trees began to wane until all that was left were a few trees and a lot of vegetation, lush green grass like I had only seen in pictures before. If I was not so busy being worried about my life and the fact that I was lost, I would have been able to take in and enjoy the scenery, it was pristine. The field of knee length green grass spread ahead almost as far as my eyes could see. At the end of it were tents. My heart jumped with joy, was that another settlement?I had said to myself earlier that if I could find another s
