NARROWED ESCAPES

All the color drained from Kai's face, he had not been paying any attention to what Mr. Blackwood was saying hence, the question had completely thrown him off guard.

His hands clenched in a fist at the embarrassment and Cassie withdrew her hand, she could see the hard lines of his jaw as he gritted his teeth hard.

"I'm sorry," she mouthed when he looked at her.

Just then Mr Blackwood's attention shifted to the door where a student scrambled in late—Jaxon.

"Do you know what the time is?" My Blackwood turned on Jaxon, he was displeased that the ones who were being raised to become future Alphas of the different packs, were the same ones to always act out of character.

"I'm sorry, I kinda got caught up," Jaxon defended himself as he scratched the back of his head.

For a second—maybe 30 seconds—Mr Blackwood stared at Jaxon displeased. Slowly he shook his head, the words on his lips heavy with condemnation.

"I don't see the example you're citing as a future Alpha, punctuality is—"

"Do we really have to go over this today as well? The lecture period is almost over and you and I know I know these things." Jaxon shrugged.

He wasn't going to take a character lecture from a history teacher.

In the time that Jaxon and Mr Blackwood had their banter, Kai was able to put himself together and even find out the question he was being asked—he always had his phone on record so he could listen to boring lectures at home again just to Ace his academics.

"Fix yourself somewhere," Mr Blackwood sighed and returned his attention to Kai—his formerly pale face bright with color and his lips curled with a smug smile.

"Werewolf tradition of mating spawns from when the goddess Se—"

"Save it for the next time I ask you a question." Mr Blackwood snapped knowing Kai already escaped his hook.

"You better take your project seriously and pay attention in class, otherwise I'll be forced to report you to the principal." He narrowed his eyes at Kai, being a predator male. Kai wasn't very pleased with being the prey.

The principal happened to be the pack's council representative in the school and a bad testimony against Kai wasn't going to be good.

"Aria, make sure to report any nonchalance or bad behavior from him to me as well." Aria shrieked in her seat.

As an Omega, she would never dare to challenge a future Alpha but Mr. Blackwood didn't know this, Aria always used suppressants to school as well so only a few people could tell her status as an Omega.

The words cut through Kai like a knife through his skin, his pride was hurt. In his head Ros growled and paced wanting a reaction but Kai sat still and kept his anger under control.

'Why can't we rip his throat out already?' Ros was the typical Alpha wolf with cutting edge emotional imbalance.

The words had held more meaning to Kai, it was an indirect to his authority but as long as he was in school, he was under Mr. Blackwood's Authority so he kept calm.

After 3 classes, the alarm chimed.

At recess, the future Alphas sat at their tables and had lunch.

"Long face again," Ryan was the most sensitive in the group, he was quick to detect the slightest mood switch in anyone even over the phone.

"Good day with Mr Blackwood today," Jaxon teased as usual.

Kai and Jaxon were the only ones amongst the 5 that offered History as a minor though Kai was a science student and Jaxon was art.

"What happened?" Edwin asked, his brows knitting in a frown.

Sigh...

Kai wasn't sure where to start the story from so he started it from the beginning leaving out important details.

"He asked me a question and I wasn't paying attention...nothing much." Ok, he started from the end actually and summarized it but they weren’t convinced.

Kai was seething, still upset about being embarrassed, the last thing he wanted to do was relive the moment in the course of a narration

"Spill the tea already." Ryan pushed when everyone just waited on Kai. He sighed.

There were just four at the table that day, Ryan, Edwin, Jaxon and Kai, Adrian had not joined them after class since he had an errand to run for his Dad.

"Ok...so there's this better girl—Cassie, Jaxon you should know her,"

"I do,"

"We all do bruhhhh, what about her?" Curiosity was getting the better part of Edwin already.

Carefully Kai relayed the incident with Cassie under his desk to his friends.

Jaxon was barely surprised but the way Edwin and Ryan stared in disbelief with mouth agape was funny.

"Cat got your tongues or what?" Jaxon snapped his fingers in their faces.

Kai leaned back in his chair, his jet black hair falling slightly over his face as he waited for any reaction from the duo that had barely known Cassie.

Edwin was the first to comment.

"Damn man, how could you sit still? I'm getting super excited by your tale already."

"Pervert," Ryan smacked him on the head.

"You really can't blame a guy you know, that Cassie girl's got the body, curves like the milky way and—"

"Curves like what now?" Kai interrupted Jaxon's joke mid sentence and their space reverberated with the sound of laughter as each one made a comment about the story.

"Neeeeh, Edwin is a lost course, how are you even getting turned on by his story?" Ryan probed when Edwin wouldn't let the matter slide so easily.

As young Alphas they struggled with high hormones and dominant instincts.

"What next man?" Ryan asked Kai.

"Next about what?"

"Over there,"

Cassie leaned slightly on the cafeteria counter, her extremely short skirt revealing soft porcelain skin.

"Neeeh, I'm not feeling—"

"Well I want to bend her over and hear her scream my name." To their surprise Edwin rose to his feet and approached Cassie.

Kai shook his head but for some reason, he had another female fill his memory. Just then, from the corner of his eyes, he saw her pass.

He had picked up her smell first—Raven but when she walked past, it was just Aria he saw, he frowned.

The moon shone brightly over the huge, castle-like pack house of the Moonshard pack. It only appeared like a castle on the outside, but the inside was designed with modern luxurious items. In one of its many rooms, Ryan leaned against the wall with his hands folded on his chest, staring at his dad with furrowed brows, eyes blazing with mixed emotions of anger and hatred.“You still look at me with that damned look in your eyes, huh?” Ragnar, the Alpha of the Moonshard pack, questioned, picking up a glass of whiskey. He leaned on the edge of the table in his study room.“I can't help it, and I am not going to apologize for it,” Ryan said through clenched teeth. He didn't fail to show how much he hated his father to his face.Ragnar let out a scoff and took a sip from the glass of whiskey before replying to his son.“I don't need your apology, son,” he replied. “One day, you will understand the reason why I did what I did.”He pushed off the wall and closed the gap between both of them.

BROKEN GLASS~The night before the party~"I'll meet you there after I figure out what I'm going to wear." Jaxon laughed at Kai from the other end of the call and Kai ended it.Tossing the phone on the bed all the way in his room, Kai stood in front of his closet, staring at the numerous clothes on different hangers, ranging from casual to official. He had never thought so hard of what to wear like this before. There was a first time for everything, and all because of what—rather, who?‘You just have to admit that she's more than that stupid bet.’ Ros said. Kai didn't say anything; instead, he moved closer to his closet. Starting from the first clothes, he moved his fingers, heading to the last one, but finally stopping at a matching combo. He pulled out a black shirt, black leather jacket and a pair of blue jeans and put them on.‘You're running because you don't want to admit it,’ Ros said again, trying to get Kai's attention for a bit, and he successfully did. ‘There’s nothing

YOU DON'T OWE ME When Kai returned, he handed her a shirt, took off his jacket and without thinking twice, draped it over Aria's trembling shoulders."Change out so you don't catch a cold. I'll wait here for you and drop you home," the music had long died down, the Alpha's aura suffocating everyone in the room—he was angry. Ryan was worse—Aria reminded him of his mother too much, moreso, she was being maltreated like his mother had been for a crime they never committed. "Where are you going young lady?" Kai caught Cassie by the wrist before she completely walked past him. They had turned the music back on and a lot of people had started playing games and dancing but Aria was yet to return with Karen."It's my house and—""My territory." He completed her statement in a low whisper.Cassie felt her wolf shrink, she couldn't challenge the Alpha, even if she could, not in front of all the people present. Also, he had been acting strange the whole night, she couldn't predict his next l

One of the Beta girls stepped forward near the edge of the crowd, her lip curled just enough to call it confidence, voice loud enough to be heard but not enough to draw real attention, not yet.“Seducing an Alpha and lacing his drink is disgusting,” she said, head tilted like she wanted Aria to break under it, “bold move though.”Aria stopped. So did Karen. The room didn’t fall silent but it shifted, heads turning in that ripple way, half of them pretending not to listen while standing completely still.Aria’s brows pulled in.Her mouth parted but nothing came out.Her hand moved a little, just enough to reach for something that wasn’t there.Karen stepped forward fast, “What did you say?”The girl laughed, short and sharp, then turned to her friend with a smirk, like she’d already won.Aria didn’t move. She didn’t understand. She scanned the faces closest to her, the smirks, the tilted heads, the way none of them looked confused. They already knew. They’d heard it.She looked toward
