Chapter 1

Author: Iris
During the year when my relationship with my Alpha father was at its worst, he gave me the newly elected Beta of the Sunfang Pack to make me happy.

After spending the night with him, I fell for him.

Three months later, I mended things with my father.

Four months later, I was pregnant.

From then on, I became the most distinguished expecting she-wolf in the pack.

Whenever it was time for a checkup, the Alpha and Beta of the pack would come with me.

But when I was six months pregnant, neither of them was around.

“I have something urgent to take care of in the pack.” My father patted my head.

Scott stroked my pregnant belly. “I have to help too. I’ll prepare gifts for you and our pup.”

I smiled as I sent them off, only to receive a video from an unknown number.

My father was dressed as a groom, and beside him stood Jelena, the mistress who drove my mother to her death.

Katie, their illegitimate daughter, was also pregnant. She wore a wedding gown as she leaned against Scott and smiled happily.

“This is a doubly joyous occasion!” Someone in the video raised their glass. “Congratulations to our Alpha for bringing his first love back, and congratulations to the Beta for holding his bonding ceremony!”

At the end of the video, my father said airily, “Your mate certificate with Claire is fake. Wouldn’t that make Claire’s pup illegitimate?”

Scott chuckled and said, “Claire has had everything since she was born, but Katie has been an illegitimate child for most of her life. I can’t let her pup grow up bearing that shame as well.”

At that moment, my heart shattered into pieces.

I called my brother, who had become the Lycan Chairman, and cried as I said, “Hoills, I want to leave with you.”

...

I gave up on going for the checkup and left the hospital to wander the streets aimlessly.

Then, I heard my father’s voice. When I looked up, I saw the huge LED screen in the bazaar showing a family interview we had three months ago.

My father held up the crystal he had bought from an auction and said, “Ocean’s Heart is my gift for my future grandchild. It doesn’t matter how much money I spent on it. My daughter’s pup deserves it.”

Scott held my hand tightly but gently.

“Claire is the one suffering the most from the pregnancy. I’ll spend the rest of my life protecting her and our pup.”

The video paused at the moment we looked at each other and smiled.

At the bottom of the video were the words “the happiest family.”

At some point, it started raining.

The rain, mixed with my tears, blurred my vision.

Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Scott.

In the past, I used to answer it immediately, but this time, I hesitated.

In the end, I answered the call.

I could hear Scott’s friend on the other side.

“Congratulations, Scott! When Katie disappeared, you searched almost every corner of the pack in order to find her! Then, you stayed beside Claire for three years and kept sucking up to her just so Katie could have a proper status and her own title as a werewolf. You’re so devoted to her!

“Claire has always looked down on illegitimate children, and guess what? In several months, her pup will be an illegitimate child as well.

“But you know what the most exciting thing about this is? It’s when Katie looked into your eyes today and said that she wouldn’t get married if her mother couldn’t get married, and you went straight to Claire’s father and convinced him to marry Jelena! My God!

“Both of them joined the Sunfang Pack at the same time! It’s been decades since the pack has seen such excitement!”

I stared at my phone, and my fingers trembled. Even so, I gripped the phone tightly, as if I was holding onto a driftwood that could save me from drowning.

Every single thing I heard was like a knife plunging into my heart, and I could not stop it at all.

They were laughing, celebrating, and chatting, as if this entire thing was just fuel for their entertainment.

They were talking about my body, my children, and my humiliation!

My vision blurred again, and tears streamed down my face uncontrollably, as if my body could no longer endure the pain.

I could not breathe, nor could I think.

At that moment, Scott’s cold voice came through the phone.

“Who touched my phone?”

The ruckus died down instantly.

A few seconds later, Scott said, “Why aren’t you saying anything, honey? Are you feeling sick?”

His gentle act was flawlessly done, as if his cheating nature was nothing more than an illusion.

I opened my mouth and wanted to ask for a rejection, only to realize that our mate certificate was also fake, so I had no right to even ask for one.

In an instant, strength drained from my body, and I collapsed on the street. Pain shot up my ankle.

It was also at this moment that a delicate voice sounded through the phone.

“Dear, my stomach hurts. I think the pup is kicking me…”

Scott fell silent. When he spoke next, he sounded panicked. “Honey, I have something to take care of here. I’ll keep you company later.”

Before I could answer, he hung up.

I returned home.

I did not know how long I sat in the living room before I heard the door open.

My father and Scott came in. Both of them looked happy.

My father handed me a dazzling ruby necklace. “Claire, this is the necklace you wanted. Scott bought it just for you.”

Meanwhile, Scott squatted down in front of me and rubbed my swollen ankle.

“Why is your ankle swollen? Are you mad that we didn’t go with you for the checkup? Shall I have the director examine you tomorrow at home?”

After their enthusiastic spiel, they noticed how pale my face was and how quiet I seemed. They were stunned. They wondered whether I had learned about the bonding ceremony.

My father turned to Scott, who shook his head.

I handed Scott a document. “Sign it. When I went out shopping today, my card was rejected because I didn’t have enough money in my bank account. I was so embarrassed.”

Scott and my father sighed in relief.

My father said enviously, “You ask your husband for money when you want to buy things? You don’t need me to buy anything for you anymore?”

Scott did not even look at the document before signing it.

“We’re a couple now. It’s only natural for Claire to spend my money.”

He then handed the document back to me with a smile.

As they spoke, their phones rang.

My father patted my shoulder. “Something popped up in the pack. I have to take care of it.”

Scott kissed the top of my head. “I have to earn money to provide for you and our pup too.”

They left and didn’t even notice that the brooches—worn only by grooms—had slipped out of their pockets and fallen to the floor.

The light reflecting off the brooches was blinding to the eyes.

They were busy spending a passionate night with their new mates, obviously.

That was why Scott did not even bother taking the time to read the document.

The document was titled: Pup Disownment Agreement.

I looked down and chuckled. Then, I wept.

With it, my pup would no longer have any connection with Scott.

I could love a person dearly, but I could also let go of them just as easily.

I wiped away my last tear and called my assistant. He always took care of everything perfectly for me.

“David, I’m ending his right as the entrusted shareholder to my shares right now.”

I was met with silence, but I did not give David the chance to ask for a reason.

“Also, pull back all the investments I made into Scott’s company. Cancel the contracts too. Cancel all business channels and special privileges while you’re at it. Thanks.”

Scott was drinking himself ragged when the butler handed him a phone. It was only then that he found out that his affair with Katie had been exposed a long time ago. The butler had shown him the security footage from the clinic. He saw Claire lying on the floor, covered in blood. People pushed her, threw water at her, and insulted her.At that time, he had been on a holiday with Katie. “The doctor said that Miss Claire did not have a single penny with her at that time…”Never before had he realized just how stupid and blind he had been. He had always thought that he pampered Claire and gave her the greatest happiness in her life, but in reality, he had driven both her and their pup to the edge!Regret overwhelmed Scott. “Bring Katie here,” he gritted his teeth and said. When the bodyguards brought Katie into Scott’s study, she did not know what had happened. She grumbled, “Scott, they’re hurting me…”But when she saw the monitor, her face changed, and tears streamed

Katie looked at Gerald and Jelena for help, but Scott pulled her back to him. If looks could kill, he would probably have killed her already. “I pitied you, but you set me up.”Gerald pulled himself free from Jelena and walked over happily to shake hands with Hoills, only to hear Hoills chuckle. “Don’t thank me yet.”Everyone fell silent, and David brought out a sealed will from my mother. He read it out aloud. “Based on Clause 7 of Magnolia’s will, if any abnormal trades occur under the hands of the entrusted shareholders, their right to hold the shares on behalf of Miss Claire will be automatically revoked.“All profits from the shares sold today will belong to Miss Claire.”Gerald fell back into his chair.Jelena screamed, “Have you lost your mind?! Claire, this is a betrayal! You’re a traitor to the Sunfang Pack!”I found her words hilarious. “Didn’t Gerald say that he wants to hand over the shares to someone better to manage them? Why is he so reluctant to give them up n

Katie tilted her head in mock pity. “I admit that you’re a proper werewolf with an Alpha bloodline, but that doesn’t matter. Just live out the rest of your days alone!”Jelena patted Katie’s hand, trying to appease her. “What nonsense. Gerald is sick, and it’ll cost too much to hire a Moon Priestess from other packs to cure him. After we leave, we have to live a frugal life too. We’re not abandoning Claire. We’re just trying not to drag her down with us.”Gerald nodded with a smile and approved of what Jelena said. They were waiting for me to break down and demand an answer from them or to beg Gerald not to abandon me, just like in the past. But I just calmly asked them whether they had acquired the right to change their territory yet. Gerald was stunned before he nodded. “Of course. We’ve gone through the procedure.”“Good.” I turned to David. “Since they don’t want their original territory anymore, buy it.”Their smiles froze. Katie was the first to recover from her sho

Katie’s reaction made Scott want to laugh out loud. He had misjudged her. She really just wanted money. In the past, he had pitied her. At present, he hated her. Five years ago, his sister had jumped off a building because she was mistreated. On the same day, he met Katie, who cried and said that she was mistreated, ostracized, and humiliated by her own family. As he looked at her face, his heart went out to her because she reminded him of his sister. He protected her, doted on her, and fell in love with her. But Scott’s mother had offered Katie money to break up with him, and she had gone to another pack immediately. Later, she returned and put on a pitiful act to ask for his help. In the beginning, he felt indignant since she had dumped him. He had not rejected her advances immediately. He had indulged her whim, and Katie took advantage of it as she took him to a hotel when he was drunk. She had lied to him and said that she was Claire. That night, he had been comp

  • Escaping the Crown of Lies   Chapter 5

“H-Hoills…” stammered the pregnant she-wolf who had been the most aggressive of the lot. The others talked about Hoills in quiet whispers. Hoills was born to be the heir of the Sunfang Pack, but after our mother passed away, he left the pack and carved out his own future until he became the Lycan Chairman. When the members of the other nine great packs saw him, they had to treat him with utmost respect. All the unbonded she-wolves longed to become his mate. But a month ago, he announced that he was never going to take a mate. It crushed the hopes of all the families who had wished for their daughters to become his mate and form a political alliance. Everyone thought that he had gone mad. Hoills had a wealth of assets and immense power, but no one was going to inherit it.Hoills removed his jacket and picked me up, even though I was dirty and bleeding. “Get a helicopter ready. We’re leaving now.” Those were the first words he spoke that day.The people around him immed

  • Escaping the Crown of Lies   Chapter 4

“Katie!”Scott and my father immediately ran toward her. No one noticed the blood oozing out from between my thighs. Scott covered Katie with his jacket, and my father held Jelena. The entire group rushed to the hospital, but before they left, Scott turned to me in disappointment. “Claire, it seems like I’ve spoiled you. Please think about what you’ve done.”In the blink of an eye, the hall was empty. With trembling hands, I called the hospital, only to be told that all of my supplementary cards had been frozen by either my father or Scott. Ocean’s Heart had fallen on the floor at some point. As I stared at it, I cried. Scott’s love was really just him trying to tame me. He gave me the best cage and the best food so that I would think that I was a princess. But once I disobeyed him, he would stop giving me money until I apologized to him. I no longer wanted his “love.”…Seven days passed. I heard nothing from my father or Scott. Meanwhile, Katie kept uploading
