Chapter 2

Author: Iris
“Miss Claire, once we proceed with the inheritance procedures, all 72% of your shares will be transferred under your name within ten days.”

After a brief pause, David added, “When your mother passed away, she created a perfect asset isolation. Your stepmother won’t be able to get even a cent from your inheritance.”

I grunted and hung up.

When my mother passed away, my father bawled in front of her tombstone and almost collapsed.

He kept slapping himself and claimed that he lost his rationality after getting drunk and had betrayed my mother’s trust.

After my mother’s death, I withdrew from everyone and hid in my room. I did not even want to eat.

Scott was the one who barged into my room with a bowl of porridge and patiently convinced me to eat.

When I was driven to suicide and jumped, he used his own body to cushion my fall.

“Your mother is watching over you beside the Moon Goddess. I’m sure she’d want you to be happy.”

Those words kept me going, and he won my heart.

But it was at this moment that I finally realized that behind all that gentleness, there was an elaborate scheme to stab me in the back.

My phone kept vibrating, and I kept receiving more photos.

One was of Scott and Katie kissing on a cruise ship as the crowd egged them on.

One was of them holding hands on snowy plains. Behind them were fireworks.

I knew every single place shown in the photos. I went to all of them with Scott for our dates.

Right at the end was a voice message from Katie.

“Claire, I went to every single hotel you did one day ahead of you. My scent might still have been lingering in the beds you slept in.

“By the way, didn’t Scott promise to hold you in bed every night? Well, after you fell asleep, he held me instead.”

Katie’s voice made my stomach churn.

“Blargh!”

As I finished puking, Scott threw the door open.

“Claire? Why is your morning sickness so bad? I’ll make something for you right now!”

He moved quickly. Soon, he brought in a steamed salmon.

It was one of the meals suitable for pregnant she-wolves, and he had learned the recipe from a Michelin-starred chef.

To learn the dish, he had canceled three important meetings.

Hope shone in Scott’s eyes. I knew that he was waiting for me to feel touched and throw myself into his arms again, just like before.

When I did not move, he was stunned.

He put the tray by the side and massaged my temples as usual.

“Scott,” I suddenly said, “are you hiding something from me?”

Since he had held me tightly when I jumped off a building all those years ago, and three of his ribs had been broken because of the impact, I was willing to give him a chance.

“What on earth are you saying? You are the love of my life. I wouldn’t hide anything from you.”

I stared at him, but there was only love in his eyes.

If I had not seen those photos, I would have believed him completely.

Love of his life. What a joke!

Scott looked into my eyes and chuckled.

“I know that you want me to pamper you whenever you ask such questions.”

He drew closer to kiss me.

But suddenly, thunder boomed.

By pure reflex, I hid myself under the blanket.

I had not cowered in fear of thunder in three years.

As a child, I would crawl into my mother’s bed during thunderstorms. After she passed away, I thought that I could find that same sort of safety from Scott, but that safety was an illusion. I started crying uncontrollably.

Scott hugged me. “Calm down. I’m here.”

His hug felt as warm as ever, but it sent shivers down my spine.

Right then, a servant rushed in and whispered into Scott’s ear.

His face changed, but he pretended to remain composed.

“Can’t you see that Claire is right here? I’m not going anywhere without putting her to sleep!”

He patted my back gently but kept glancing at the door.

“Sleep. I’ll keep you company here.”

Once he was sure that I had fallen asleep, he ran out.

My phone screen lit up.

The photos Katie sent were all very indecent.

The messy bedsheets, Scott’s muscular naked back, and all sorts of wet adult toys.

At the end was a voice message. Katie panted as she spoke.

“Scott hasn’t slept with you since your pregnancy, has he? But he can’t hold back when he sees me…

“I heard that Scott hasn’t named your pup. Ours is going to be Claire. That’s a name we decided on when we were still dating.”

Then, she sent another photo.

Katie showed off the tattoo on her chest. It was in the same spot as Scott’s tattoo.

It was the same tattoo as his, which spelled “Claire.”

My mind went blank.

I had cried when I first saw the tattoo and touched it. He had a complicated look in his eyes at that time. I realized that it had been guilt.

Whenever he called my name, he was thinking about another person.

My entire life from the past three years had been a cruel joke.

I sat in dejected silence until the sun rose, and finally, I sent a reply to the person who had been waiting for a long time.

Hoills, my brother.

[Hoills, I want to leave with you.]

Scott was drinking himself ragged when the butler handed him a phone. It was only then that he found out that his affair with Katie had been exposed a long time ago. The butler had shown him the security footage from the clinic. He saw Claire lying on the floor, covered in blood. People pushed her, threw water at her, and insulted her.At that time, he had been on a holiday with Katie. “The doctor said that Miss Claire did not have a single penny with her at that time…”Never before had he realized just how stupid and blind he had been. He had always thought that he pampered Claire and gave her the greatest happiness in her life, but in reality, he had driven both her and their pup to the edge!Regret overwhelmed Scott. “Bring Katie here,” he gritted his teeth and said. When the bodyguards brought Katie into Scott’s study, she did not know what had happened. She grumbled, “Scott, they’re hurting me…”But when she saw the monitor, her face changed, and tears streamed

  • Escaping the Crown of Lies   Chapter 8

Katie looked at Gerald and Jelena for help, but Scott pulled her back to him. If looks could kill, he would probably have killed her already. “I pitied you, but you set me up.”Gerald pulled himself free from Jelena and walked over happily to shake hands with Hoills, only to hear Hoills chuckle. “Don’t thank me yet.”Everyone fell silent, and David brought out a sealed will from my mother. He read it out aloud. “Based on Clause 7 of Magnolia’s will, if any abnormal trades occur under the hands of the entrusted shareholders, their right to hold the shares on behalf of Miss Claire will be automatically revoked.“All profits from the shares sold today will belong to Miss Claire.”Gerald fell back into his chair.Jelena screamed, “Have you lost your mind?! Claire, this is a betrayal! You’re a traitor to the Sunfang Pack!”I found her words hilarious. “Didn’t Gerald say that he wants to hand over the shares to someone better to manage them? Why is he so reluctant to give them up n

Katie tilted her head in mock pity. “I admit that you’re a proper werewolf with an Alpha bloodline, but that doesn’t matter. Just live out the rest of your days alone!”Jelena patted Katie’s hand, trying to appease her. “What nonsense. Gerald is sick, and it’ll cost too much to hire a Moon Priestess from other packs to cure him. After we leave, we have to live a frugal life too. We’re not abandoning Claire. We’re just trying not to drag her down with us.”Gerald nodded with a smile and approved of what Jelena said. They were waiting for me to break down and demand an answer from them or to beg Gerald not to abandon me, just like in the past. But I just calmly asked them whether they had acquired the right to change their territory yet. Gerald was stunned before he nodded. “Of course. We’ve gone through the procedure.”“Good.” I turned to David. “Since they don’t want their original territory anymore, buy it.”Their smiles froze. Katie was the first to recover from her sho

Katie’s reaction made Scott want to laugh out loud. He had misjudged her. She really just wanted money. In the past, he had pitied her. At present, he hated her. Five years ago, his sister had jumped off a building because she was mistreated. On the same day, he met Katie, who cried and said that she was mistreated, ostracized, and humiliated by her own family. As he looked at her face, his heart went out to her because she reminded him of his sister. He protected her, doted on her, and fell in love with her. But Scott’s mother had offered Katie money to break up with him, and she had gone to another pack immediately. Later, she returned and put on a pitiful act to ask for his help. In the beginning, he felt indignant since she had dumped him. He had not rejected her advances immediately. He had indulged her whim, and Katie took advantage of it as she took him to a hotel when he was drunk. She had lied to him and said that she was Claire. That night, he had been comp

  • Escaping the Crown of Lies   Chapter 5

“H-Hoills…” stammered the pregnant she-wolf who had been the most aggressive of the lot. The others talked about Hoills in quiet whispers. Hoills was born to be the heir of the Sunfang Pack, but after our mother passed away, he left the pack and carved out his own future until he became the Lycan Chairman. When the members of the other nine great packs saw him, they had to treat him with utmost respect. All the unbonded she-wolves longed to become his mate. But a month ago, he announced that he was never going to take a mate. It crushed the hopes of all the families who had wished for their daughters to become his mate and form a political alliance. Everyone thought that he had gone mad. Hoills had a wealth of assets and immense power, but no one was going to inherit it.Hoills removed his jacket and picked me up, even though I was dirty and bleeding. “Get a helicopter ready. We’re leaving now.” Those were the first words he spoke that day.The people around him immed

“Katie!”Scott and my father immediately ran toward her. No one noticed the blood oozing out from between my thighs. Scott covered Katie with his jacket, and my father held Jelena. The entire group rushed to the hospital, but before they left, Scott turned to me in disappointment. “Claire, it seems like I’ve spoiled you. Please think about what you’ve done.”In the blink of an eye, the hall was empty. With trembling hands, I called the hospital, only to be told that all of my supplementary cards had been frozen by either my father or Scott. Ocean’s Heart had fallen on the floor at some point. As I stared at it, I cried. Scott’s love was really just him trying to tame me. He gave me the best cage and the best food so that I would think that I was a princess. But once I disobeyed him, he would stop giving me money until I apologized to him. I no longer wanted his “love.”…Seven days passed. I heard nothing from my father or Scott. Meanwhile, Katie kept uploading
