Khalid is my mate. The realization seemed more and more untrue as I thought about it. Bell, my wolf, couldn’t contain her excitement and wanted to be in the arms of her mate immediately. And so did I.

But as I watched his graceful and eloquent movement, my heart shattered into a thousand pieces. Khalid was the son of the Alpha—the first son for that matter. And me, a poor and weak Omega girl, was mated to him. How in the universe would that work? I was in the very lowest of class and he was in the very highest. There was no way he wouldn’t be despised by my existence if he realized his mate was an Omega.

Just as I was looking at him, his eyes suddenly met mine. All the pores in my body froze at that moment. Time seemed to stand still as our gazes locked. I felt like I was drowning in the depths of his eyes. But then, his gaze shifted, almost immediately. And I wondered if he had really looked at me or I was seeing things.

As I stood there, lost in thought, the head of maids appeared beside me, her voice piercing the air. “Hey, you! Dirty thing. What are you looking at?”

I turned to face her, my heart still reeling from the shock of seeing Khalid. She was a huge woman, an Omega twice my age, and pompous too. Many Omegas get rejected if their mates aren’t also Omegas, and if their mates happen to hate Omegas. But if they're lucky enough to get accepted by a non-Omega mate, they're immediately respected. And even though they're still Omegas, no one dares address them as that again. Because the title of your husband is your title.

That was the case with this head maid. She was mated to the Chief of Gamma, and she'd taken it upon herself to insult and abuse Omegas whenever she could, because she was “no longer” one of us.

“If only you could work half as hard as you stare into space. You have a tray in your hands, but you'd rather stand there, stare, and daydream of things you'll never be. Now get out of my sight and make yourself more useful.” Her words stung, but I knew better than to react. I bowed and walked away, the weight of her disdain settling heavy on my shoulders.

As I made my way to the kitchen, the sounds of the celebration grew louder. Today was the Alpha's birthday, and the pack house was buzzing with activity. Dancers performed with loud music in the pack hall, while men fought with swords for entertainment. The rest of the pack enjoyed the endless food and drink, but the Omegas were left to work, unpaid and unappreciated.

My stomach growled as I poured drinks into the tiny glasses on the tray. I hadn't eaten since morning, and it was already after 6PM. My job was to serve drinks, and later, I'd join the other maids to wash the dishes. Just another day in the life of an Omega.

Someone nudged at me, and I turned to see a sweating Nora. She was also an Omega and a maid like me—one around my age who always insulted the world and its unfairness.

“Mia. There you are.” She smiled at me and looked around us. “We should disappear into one of the empty stores and eat something. The house is so busy. Nobody would notice.”

I looked at her suspiciously. Nora had always been a risk-taker and had never been caught once, even though I’ve never agreed to being her accomplice.

“And our duties?”

“Mia,” she pouted. “I’m starting to wonder if you enjoy working. There are many other maids in the house. You think it would matter if nobody sees us for a few minutes?”

I rolled my eyes and hissed, slowly moving out of the room with the tray in my hands. I felt the mate bond as I walked, and I threatened to shut Bell out if she kept being restless, even though I knew I couldn’t.

“Maid,” someone called, which prompted me to look. A man wearing a silk robe waved at me. From his appearance, I could tell he was one of the guests from another pack.

I bowed as I handed him the tray so he could take a cup. He took one, and I bowed again before turning to leave.

“Wait.”

He walked from behind me to stand at my front. “You look quite ravishing for a maid, even despite the fact that you stink.”

I stood still, staring straight at him. His words must sound demeaning to his ears, but somehow they didn’t hurt me one bit. I’ve heard worse in my life, and I’ve felt worse. I was just a little annoyed that he was wasting my time.

“Thank you. But I have to continue my duties now.” I made sure to bow again and started walking away before he held my shoulder.

“Where do you think you’re going? I’m not done with you. Hand that tray to any other maid or drop it on the floor and come with me.”

I tried to suppress my anger as I thought of what to say to him. “With all due respect, my Lord, the head maid won’t like that. There are many more people I need to serve and—”

“This dirty Omega. Since when is it that your type has the right to object to the actual wolves? Do you know who I am?”

“I don’t care who you are! Go fuck yourself and leave me alone,” I screamed at him, and then realized that it hadn’t come from me but from a furious Bell.

His “actual wolves” comment had triggered Bell, who was already anxious from the thought of never being compatible with her mate.

He was shocked at my outburst, or rather Bell’s. But how do I explain to him that my wolf sometimes works on her own and I hadn’t meant to insult him?

My body trembled where I stood. I knew there would be vast consequences for what I just did. I felt some presence starting to thicken around us, including other maids that were confused about what just happened and wondering if they actually heard me insult a highly esteemed guest.

“You…” I heard him growl. “You’re going to pay for this.”

Claws extended from his fingertips. And with a flash, I saw it coming for my face before I heard a louder growl.

“Don’t you dare lay hands on my mate!”

KHALIDI parked my car outside my house and turned off the ignition. Lady Velvet came out immediately, a surprised expression on her face. She hadn't expected me back anytime soon.Somebody else was with her, a lady I recognized as her daughter because she'd come to visit a few times. Her mouth opened when she saw me, and she muttered something to her mother.“Welcome back, son,” Lady Velvet said, approaching me with curiosity. “Is something wrong? Why are you back so soon?”“I came to get something,” I grumbled under my breath and walked inside. Her daughter bowed and said, “Greetings, Lord Khalid. It’s been quite long.”I stopped for a moment to stare at her, noticing the welcoming smile in her eyes. The desire her tone held was irking at my skin. She was pretty and thin with black hair—shorter and lighter than Mia’s. I groaned as I thought of her again, and entered the house without answering her greeting.I went straight into my room and pushed the door open. The room was well arr

Mia woke to the sound of music, blinking as she yawned. Her hands felt sore and painful as she rubbed her eyes. Getting up from the plush, velvet-covered bed, she looked around the room she was in and suddenly jumped. The room was large and well-arranged, with walls painted a soft, creamy white. Rugs in pastel hues covered the floor, adding warmth and texture. A delicate chandelier hung from the ceiling, casting a gentle glow. The furniture was elegant and feminine, with detailed carvings and curved lines. Brown curtains filtered the sunlight, creating a serene atmosphere. Every detail seemed designed for comfort and relaxation. A sudden chill seeped into her bones. Remembering she had been in Dilan’s car, Mia wondered how she had fallen asleep. She walked slowly toward the door, breathing in the lavender fragrance. Her fingers brushed the cool metal of the handle, and the memory slammed into her: Dilan's words about coming to the human world. This must be it. She must have fal

NORAIt was evening, and I was standing at the back of the packhouse, under a tree. I continuously looked around to make sure no one was coming. Getting here hadn't been easy, as there were guards everywhere.Levi had told me to wait for him. I smiled as I thought about him. I had known he was my mate four days ago, and I had been so happy and fulfilled. Four other maids and I had gone to the home garden, where the guards were gathered, to serve them food. All the other guards were seated on chairs and on the ground, but he had been standing, looking around with a hollowed expression on his face. When we served the food, the other guards started pulling the maids over and touching them inappropriately. He hadn't moved an inch. He was simply staring in one direction, until one of the guards came for me and I screamed. He turned instantly and drew out his sword. The guard raised his hand and stepped back immediately. Then my wolf said those magic words: Mate.He took me away as the oth

MIALevi carried me to the car. He didn't touch me roughly or rush like I stank and he wanted to drop me as soon as possible, so I was at least grateful for that. I wouldn't have allowed him to do it if I could move. But I was so paralyzed I couldn't even open my mouth. He opened the backseat of Dilan's car and placed me inside. Goosebumps roughened my skin, leaving me cold and shivering. I tried to move towards the car door to rest my head there but I couldn't.I heard footsteps as somebody else walked to hand Levi something. I managed to look, and saw it was wool and a bandage. He got in the car, placing his sword on his lap. Then he gently rubbed the wool over my neck in silence. It didn't hurt anymore. Nothing hurt anymore. But I wasn’t sure if it had stopped bleeding. When he was done, he threw out the wool and put the bandage over my neck."It's not deep," he spoke for the first time. "And it isn't bleeding again either."I just stared at him. He looked the most self-assured of

MIAAs Alpha Williams walked toward me, sword in hand, all the events that had occurred in my life began to play in my mind. And I just stood still, waiting for it to happen—waiting for the last shoe to drop.He had a relaxed look on his face, as if he were approaching his daughter to say something to her. But I wasn’t his daughter, and the sword in his hands wasn’t for talking.Bell was fighting to make me move, to flee before he got to me—before it was too late. But I wouldn’t be able to run. The doors were shut, and three guards stood in front of them, watching the scene. Maybe trying to escape was pointless. Still, Bell didn’t seem to care—she just wanted to try.But I couldn’t move. The Alpha’s gaze was fixed on the tip of the sword near the throne, as if he wanted it to savor its last moments of cleanliness before my impure blood stained it.“Khalid,” I whispered, though I was sure no one heard me. Both Khalid and Dilan had been frozen in place since I entered the room, and the

MIADifferent sceneries played in my head as the guards dragged me, and my breath caught in my chest when they turned to the passageway that led to the throne room. They were taking me to the Alpha? For what reason? Bell wailed in my head, and her fear made me panic even more. The Alpha must have gotten information that I was here—that I was the Omega who had come to taint his bloodline.I was grateful that Freya had told all the maids to rest in the quarters, because things would have been worse if everyone saw the way I was being handled, as if I was being punished for stealing.Instead, we only passed other guards and palace staff like the gardeners and cooks. None of them paid attention to what was happening—and I knew why. As we passed a group of two guards who were chatting, one of them asked, “You’re going to have fun with this one? Wooh, she really is cute. I haven’t seen her before.”My heart froze, and a new fear gripped my throat. I was well aware that guards usually dragge
