(Sybil’s POV)

I stood outside John’s office the day after our encounter in Amelia’s hospital room, clutching my papers tightly in my hands. I was feeling a bit nervous about filing for divorce, even though I knew that I was doing the right thing.

Despite everything that had transpired, I still had feelings for John. I wished I didn’t, but what can you do?

I cheered myself up with the knowledge that Alex was coming back today. I couldn’t wait to see him again. We would have so much to catch up on. I started planning all of the things that we would do upon his return, getting so caught up in my thoughts that I momentarily forgot where I was and what I was doing there.

The sound of John’s office door forcefully being opened brought me back to reality.

Willa stormed out, giving me a dirty look as she brushed past me. I wondered what had just happened.

I went through the door. John was standing in the middle of his office, a very obvious lipstick stain on his face. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, I thought bitterly.

“Well, this is appropriate.” I held the divorce papers out to him. “Here you are with another woman’s lipstick on your face, and here I am with divorce papers.”

He took a tissue from the box on his desk and wiped his face. Then he stared at me. “Alex is coming home today,” he said.

I could tell that he was ignoring the papers in my outstretched hand, so I put them down on his desk. I wouldn’t leave until they were dealt with appropriately, I told myself.

“I know,” I said, wondering why he was talking about Alex.

“Grandma invited all of us over for dinner tonight, to celebrate his return.” John gave me a stern look. “She asked me to tell you. She wants you to be there.”

I hesitated. The last thing I wanted to do was spend an evening with John and his parents. I liked his grandmother, though. She was the only person in that family besides Amelia who treated me with kindness and affection. There was also Alex, of course. I wanted to see him, too.

“I’ll go, but only to please your grandmother,” I said.

“And Alex, I suppose?” John eyed me suspiciously.

What was that about? Alex and I were just friends! John and Willa, however…

“Of course,” I said, “Alex is a close friend.”

John scoffed at that.

“I’ll be there, but it’s the last time.” I looked him in the eyes, hoping he would finally take this seriously.

“Look, Sybil,” he said, “I don’t want you upsetting Grandma tonight.” He sat down at his desk.

“Why would I do that?” I took a seat across from him. “You know how much I care about her.”

John frowned at me. “You say that, but I can’t help wondering if you mean it. I mean, you claim to care about Amelia, but yesterday’s incident proves otherwise.”

He let out a sigh. “My grandmother is frail and elderly. You can’t spring something like this on her, especially when it isn’t even true. It could kill her! Do you want my grandmother’s death on your conscience, Sybil?”

I rolled my eyes. His grandmother wasn’t nearly as feeble as he was making her out to be. “Not this again! Why can’t you just accept that our marriage is over?”

“It’s not over until I say it is.” He crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair.

“My lawyer says otherwise,” I replied smugly.

“Your lawyer’s an idiot,” he said.

“I’ll explain everything to your family tonight.” I picked up my papers and tried to hand them to him again.

He didn’t take them. “Explain what? That you’ve lost your mind?” He leaned forward. “First, you want a baby. Then, when I agree to give you what you want, what do you do? You repay me by threatening to leave me for no reason!”

“No reason?” Was he stupid or delusional, or both?

“You wrongfully accused me of trapping you in this marriage. You threatened me. Then there’s Willa! Do you honestly think you can legally marry her while still being married to me?”

“You’re my wife, Sybil,” he said coldly, “until I say otherwise.”

I could see that it was pointless to try to argue with him. I was tired of the whole situation. There was just one more piece of business to deal with before I could leave his office, though.

Once again I held the papers out to him. “I’d like to go over these with you.”

He didn’t answer me as he stood and walked away from me, looking out the window.

I followed him. “Please, John, I’d really like to get this over with. If you could just -”

I didn’t get a chance to finish my sentence, before John turned around and came towards me, an unreadable expression on his face. Before I had time to react, he had me pinned with my back against the wall. With his strong right arm, he was holding my hands on top of my head so I couldn’t move them. I was trapped.

“Let go of me!” I wriggled around, trying to break free, but that just caused John to tighten his grip on me.

“You belong to me, Sybil,” he insisted. “Nobody else can have you. Got that?” With every word he said, his hot breath hit me in the face. His free hand was roaming around my body.

“I don’t know what planet you’re living on,” I said, struggling to free my hands, “but I don’t understand why you think it’s okay to treat me like this.”

He looked at me intensely. “What’s the problem with you all of a sudden?”

Seriously? The man had me trapped against the wall, completely powerless as he fondled me when I was only here to ask for a divorce! And he had the nerve to ask me what my problem was. He was the one who had a problem, if you ask me.

John started kissing every part of my body that he could reach. This can’t go on, I have to get out of his grasp or I am going to crumble…

Just then, there was a courtesy knock at the door. Knowing the door is not locked I thank whoever it is that is coming to save my sorry ass.

“Come in!” I yelled loud enough for the person on the other side to hear.

“Sybil? Is that you?” It's Alex!

  • Mr.CEO’s Contract Bride is a Hidden Heiress   Sequel!

Sorry it’s been a while! You may think that this story has been abandoned, but fear not! You can still follow the adventures of Sybil, John and the others in the sequel–Hidden Heiress: My Ex is Addicted to Me. The story will start a few months later for our characters but the drama is even more intense! I am still working on it but don’t worry, it will come.

  • Mr.CEO’s Contract Bride is a Hidden Heiress   Chapter 76 What Now?

(Sybil’s POV)I walked into the hospital, going over what I would say when face to face with Charlie. I had known the truth for over twelve hours now, but it wasn’t any less of a shock. The Worthingtons had been so supportive the night before, promising to give me space until I was mentally and emotionally ready to deal with the fact that I was their biological daughter. I didn’t blame them for anything, because as they had told me, they’d only just found this out themselves a few days ago. They had also been shocked, which was why they had kept it to themselves until now.I wondered if Willa knew about any of this. She had always accused me of wanting to be her, ever since she got her hands on the story that I wrote. Now it turned out that, if things had turned out differently, I actually would be living a similar life to what she was living now. I would have grown up in a loving household, with parents who loved me.Unfortunately, thinking about Willa reminded me of when I had hea

(Sybil’s POV)The next afternoon I decided that I should turn my phone back on, just in case someone was trying to reach me for reasons other than the scandal or John. I didn’t want to miss anything concerning Charlie, for example.I saw that I had a message from the Worthingtons, so I phoned them back. It did me so much good to hear Mrs. Worthington’s voice, especially now. She had always been a comforting presence, and ever since I was a child, I enjoyed spending time with both her and Mr. Worthington.“Hi, Sybil. We just wanted to see how you were holding up. Whoever wrote that nasty article doesn’t know you at all!”“I’m still in shock, but just talking to you makes me feel better.” I smiled. “I’m sorry it took a while to get back to you. My phone was turned off for much of yesterday, because I just needed to take a break.”“That’s understandable. Would you like to come over for dinner tonight?”“That sounds wonderful!” I grinned. “I could use good company.”***A few hours later,

  • Mr.CEO’s Contract Bride is a Hidden Heiress   Chapter 74 Phone Calls

(Sybil’s POV)The day after the meeting with John and our lawyers, I wasn’t really in the mood to talk to anyone or go anywhere. Emma had taken me to Darcy’s as promised yesterday, which was a nice distraction, but I knew that it was only temporary and that I couldn’t run away from my problems forever.I couldn’t stop thinking about the way that John had looked at me at the meeting. His eyes had been full of hatred. I knew that he was hurt by what he assumed to be true. I couldn’t blame him for feeling that way, but if he had just given me a chance to explain that what the article said about me wasn’t true, maybe we could have talked things through. Then he wouldn’t have signed the divorce papers impulsively.Or would he still have refused to believe me? Probably, knowing him. He could be very stubborn at times, not willing to change his way of thinking, even when there was actual proof that he was wrong.Still, I would have liked an opportunity to at least try to clear up the misun

  • Mr.CEO’s Contract Bride is a Hidden Heiress   Chapter 73 Off to London

(John’s POV)After signing the divorce papers, I just had to get out of that room. I’d had just about all I could take of Sybil sitting there pretending that she hadn’t paid that guy to take pictures of us. Just recently, she’d acted horrified when I told her about the indecent photos of us. She’d claimed not to know about any of that, and she was so convincing that I actually believed her and felt awful for telling her everything. I was such an idiot! How could I let myself be fooled like that?I couldn’t believe my eyes this morning when I woke up on her sofa and decided to check my phone to see what was going on in the world. I went on a news website, and there was one of the photos. At first, before I read the article, I was afraid that the photos had resurfaced for some reason, despite my family’s efforts to keep that from happening.I wasn’t really afraid for myself, because I was used to being in the spotlight for both negative and positive reasons. Because of who my family

  • Mr.CEO’s Contract Bride is a Hidden Heiress   Chapter 72 John’s Signature

(Sybil’s POV)I was extremely grateful that Emma had shown up when she did. I really didn’t want to deal with all of this on my own. Now that I knew, or at least suspected, that John had read the lies that were being spread about me and the reason for our marriage, I had a sinking feeling that he wouldn’t believe me if I tried to explain that none of it was true. I didn’t know what I would do the next time I had to face him. After a while, I knew that I should get ready for my meeting with Jane. “Sorry to cut this short,” I said to Emma, “but I should get dressed and go see my lawyer.”“I can drive you, if you want.” She gave me a supportive smile.“Would you?” I looked at her. “That would be great. Don’t worry, I won’t ask you to sit in on all the legal stuff. Believe me, there are times when I wish that I didn’t have to listen to all those complicated terms.”She laughed. “I completely understand that! I actually have a book in the car that I’m in the middle of reading. I’ll be able
