Chapter One
Camilla ~~~~ After setting up the table I went upstairs to freshen up and wait for Raffael. It was our third anniversary and I made dinner. I also decorated the room with some flowers and scented candles. It was currently ten minutes past 10 and he still wasn’t back. I tried calling him but he wasn’t answering his phone. I called Anthony, his assistant but he also didn’t pick up the phone. It was getting really late but I was determined to stay awake till he came back. I went to make coffee so I could stay awake. “Ms Edwards I don’t think he’ll be back anytime soon. You should go to bed.” Martha, my housekeeper said with a pitiful expression on her face. “I’ll wait one more hour. You can go to bed.” I waved her off picking up my phone to try and call him again. “Not to overstep but you know he’s not coming back. Goodnight.” She said before retiring to her room. She wasn’t wrong. I knew he wasn’t coming back. At least not today. He’d probably show up tomorrow morning before I could wake up and then get ready to go to work again. That’s been his daily routine for the past few weeks. I thought he would come back since it was our anniversary. I was wrong. I was still going to wait. Who knows, he might surprise me. I felt someone tap me lightly. “Ms Edwards, Ms Edwards.” My eyes fluttered, adjusting to the bright light coming from the window. My back ached. I’d fallen asleep on the couch waiting for Raffael. I sat up on the couch stretching my hands while yawning. “Good morning,” Martha said. “I prepared a hot bath for you upstairs.” “Did he come back?” I asked, my eyes darting around the living room. “No ma’am.” I walked up the stairs and went into my room. Looking at the decorations from last night, I almost burst into tears. What was I thinking doing all this when I knew he wouldn’t even bother to come home? I went into the bathtub and lay there for a good thirty minutes before coming out. I stepped out of the bathroom still dripping with water when my phone rang. It was Skyee, my best friend. I picked up the phone. “Hey.” “You haven’t seen the news?” “What news?” “Check celebrity news, call me later.” I hung up the phone and turned on the TV. I went to the celebrity news channel and I saw it. My husband was seen at a club with his ex-girlfriend. The headlines said, “ Billionaire CEO Raffael Edwards spotted at a club with ex-girlfriend Tori on his marriage anniversary. Are he and Camilla getting divorced?” I collapsed on my bed. Tori is back in the city, and Raffael went out with her. My whole world was falling apart. So that’s why he didn’t come home last night. He was out with his ex-girlfriend. I couldn’t believe it. The tears I was holding back came in like a flood. I started sobbing uncontrollably. It felt like my heart was broken into pieces. Martha came into the room. “Ms Edwards, are you okay?” She pulled me up and wrapped her arms around me. “It’s going to be okay. You’ll be okay.” Martha has been with us since I was born. When my mother died five years after my birth, she took on a mother role for me. I sunk into her embrace crying my eyes out. We stayed in that position for a while before she stood up. “Come on let’s dry your hair and get you down for breakfast.” She took my hand and led me to the dresser while she picked up the blow dryer to help me dry my hair which was still wet from my bath. I went downstairs to eat and told one of the workers to remove the decorations from the room. I was eating when Raffael walked in. He went and sat at the other end of the table. “Good morning.” He said but my head was faced down focusing on my plate. I looked up at him and he was smiling. He never smiled when he was around me. I didn’t reply. “Good morning.” He repeated as one of the helpers brought him a plate to eat with. I abandoned my food and went upstairs into the room, our room. I slammed the door behind me but after a few seconds, it was opened again. “What is your problem, Camila?” He said as soon as he opened the door. “What is my problem? You. You’re my problem.” I said pointing at him aggressively. “Where were you last night?” He sighed. “That’s none of your business.” “None of my business? You’re my husband. Your whereabouts are my business.” He stared at me for a very long time before breaking into a laugh. “Okay. I was out with Tori.” He said while removing his tie and throwing it on the bed. I almost started crying. “You were out with Tori?” I asked like I hadn’t already seen the news. “On the night of our anniversary, you were out with another woman. Not just any woman your ex-girlfriend.” “Do you have a problem with that?” He questioned. “Do you even love me?” I asked, even though I already knew the answer to that question. He stared at me in disbelief. “Love you? That’s a question you’re seriously asking me. What do you think, Camila? If you were in my shoes would you love you?” I sniffed back the tears that were threatening to come out. “Get out, just go away. I want to be alone.” He left the room. I sat down on the bed trying to process what was happening. He didn’t care anymore. He didn’t have any respect for me again. Sure he didn’t get married to me willingly but we’d been tolerating each other for the past three years. The door opened again and he walked in and handed me a brown file. “Here.” He said stretching his hand towards me. I was hesitant to take it because I had good knowledge of what might be inside.Chapter One Hundred and FiveCamilla’s POVAs soon as we kissed it felt like butterflies erupted in my stomach. I thought I was a bit old for that. He pulled away and looked me in the eyes, as if asking for permission to continue. I knew what he wanted and I wanted it too so I nodded. He pulled in again and this time we kissed with more passion. I missed the taste of his lips. I wrapped my hands around his neck. It was like we couldn’t get enough of each other. I kept leaning in and he kept pulling me in. He picked me up and I wrapped my legs around his torso. He took me to the bed and then hovered above me. He pulled away. We were both out of breath. “Are you sure?” He asked in a hoarse voice.“Yes.” I sounded really desperate. He moved his lips to my neck and a soft moan came out of my mouth. He sucked on my neck and eventually made his way down. He unbuttoned my shirt and then looked at me for confirmation. I gave him the go-ahead.He took his time unbuckling it and then threw th
Chapter One Hundred and Four Raphael’s POVAfter I didn’t get a reply from Camilla, I went straight to bed. It was nice to get an outside perspective on me and Camilla from someone that didn't know the both of us.I woke up pretty late and went outside. The kids were already awake and having breakfast. The chef made breakfast for all of us. There were many varieties to choose from. I picked up some scrambled eggs and two pancakes and waffles. I drizzled a little bit of syrup on it and I was good to go.“Why did Mummy leave? When is she coming back?” Rory asked. She was talking to Tamara.“What are you talking about baby? Mummy left where?” I asked.“She was here yesterday. She said she was going to come back later.” She answered.I looked at Tamara. “What is she talking about?”Tamara pulled me to the side. “Camilla was here yesterday.”“What?” I said in shock. “Where is she? Where did she go? Why didn’t anyone tell me?”“She asked me not to tell you. She arrived yesterday when you
Chapter One Hundred and ThreeCamilla’s POVAfter I dropped Rory off at Raphael’s house and said goodbye, I made my way to work. Things were kind of normal between Raphael and me. We hadn’t really talked about ourselves since that night. I didn’t want to bring up the conversation myself. If anything, he should be the one to initiate the conversation.Throughout the whole day, I kept thinking about Raphael and Rory. It was normal for me to miss my daughter but I didn’t know why my mind kept drifting to Raphael.I’d gotten all the advice I could possibly get from my therapist, friends, and family. I even talked to my grandfather about the situation, I didn’t want him to be caught off guard with everything. He told me that I was an adult and he believed I’d grown over the past few years to be able to make a decision and make the right one. As always, he said he was going to support whatever I decided to do.I was grateful for the village I had behind me. A thought suddenly popped into my
Chapter One Hundred and TwoRaphael’s POVCamilla dropped Rory off at my house and then said her goodbyes. A part of me wanted her to go on the trip with us but I understood we hadn’t gotten to that point yet. The past two weeks we didn't really get back to our conversation from that night. After she left, we spent a few hours in the house leaving for the airport. I decided to fly private this time around because I wanted Jason and Rory to be comfortable. The only other person who was coming with us was Tamara.I would have invited Tori to come along but she got a modelling gig. After she ran into her former manager that day, she secured a job for her. I was happy that she was getting her life back together.Rory and Jason slept through most of the flight. After 11 long hours, we finally touched ground in Tuscany. It was always somewhere I wanted to visit with family. I hadn’t been on a vacation in a really long time so I was excited to be able to run away from all the stress. We dro
Chapter One Hundred and OneCamilla’s POVThe past few weeks I’d focused on work. The board had actually called Jeremy and I to ask us what our relationship was. We simply told them we were friends and coworkers who managed to be caught up in the heat of the moment. We promised to maintain a professional relationship moving forward. I was working on building a new campaign for the company. I barely got enough sleep and was working nights.I was about to go to sleep when I got a text. It was from Raphael. He asked if we could talk. It was like I didn’t have control over my own body when I texted him back saying yes.I agreed to meet him and I put on some clothes and grabbed my keys. I didn’t tell anybody I was going out. I drove over to his house to pick him up. He suggested we go to a park that was nearby. I helped him out of the car because of his leg and we went to one of the beaches in the park. It was dark and quiet. The only source of light was from a few street lights. We were
Chapter One HundredRaphael’s POVAfter three weeks, I’d improved significantly. I started going to the office again. I didn’t visit the project sites yet but at least I was out of the house. I was waiting until I was better before going on the trip I had planned with Rory and Jason. They were supposed to be out of school but we decided it was best to keep them in summer school. They didn’t like it though. But Camilla and I were too busy to just have the kids stay in the house all day without spending any time with them.Camilla still didn’t say anything about Jeremy since that night. The rumors that they were dating died down pretty fast though. Their PR team did a good job. They haven’t been seen together since the incident. I’d be lying to myself if I said I didn’t have feelings for how. I didn’t know how I would communicate that to how without her thinking it was just a game. I knew that there was nothing I could do that would erase the hurt she felt years ago. Right now, I was j
