Camilla ~~~~ After setting up the table I went upstairs to freshen up and wait for Raffael. It was our third anniversary and I made dinner. I also decorated the room with some flowers and scented candles. It was currently ten minutes past 10 and he still wasn’t back. I tried calling him but he wasn’t answering his phone. I called Anthony, his assistant but he also didn’t pick up the phone. It was getting really late but I was determined to stay awake till he came back. I went to make coffee so I could stay awake. “Ms Edwards I don’t think he’ll be back anytime soon. You should go to bed.” Martha, my housekeeper said with a pitiful expression on her face. “I’ll wait one more hour. You can go to bed.” I waved her off picking up my phone to try and call him again. “Not to overstep but you know he’s not coming back. Goodnight.” She said before retiring to her room. She wasn’t wrong. I knew he wasn’t coming back. At least not today. He’d probably show up tomorrow morning before I could wake up and then get ready to go to work again. That’s been his daily routine for the past few weeks. I thought he would come back since it was our anniversary. I was wrong. I was still going to wait. Who knows, he might surprise me. I felt someone tap me lightly. “Ms Edwards, Ms Edwards.” My eyes fluttered, adjusting to the bright light coming from the window. My back ached. I’d fallen asleep on the couch waiting for Raffael. I sat up on the couch stretching my hands while yawning. “Good morning,” Martha said. “I prepared a hot bath for you upstairs.” “Did he come back?” I asked, my eyes darting around the living room. “No ma’am.” I walked up the stairs and went into my room. Looking at the decorations from last night, I almost burst into tears. What was I thinking doing all this when I knew he wouldn’t even bother to come home? I went into the bathtub and lay there for a good thirty minutes before coming out. I stepped out of the bathroom still dripping with water when my phone rang. It was Skyee, my best friend. I picked up the phone. “Hey.” “You haven’t seen the news?” “What news?” “Check celebrity news, call me later.” I hung up the phone and turned on the TV. I went to the celebrity news channel and I saw it. My husband was seen at a club with his ex-girlfriend. The headlines said, “ Billionaire CEO Raffael Edwards spotted at a club with ex-girlfriend Tori on his marriage anniversary. Are he and Camilla getting divorced?” I collapsed on my bed. Tori is back in the city, and Raffael went out with her. My whole world was falling apart. So that’s why he didn’t come home last night. He was out with his ex-girlfriend. I couldn’t believe it. The tears I was holding back came in like a flood. I started sobbing uncontrollably. It felt like my heart was broken into pieces. Martha came into the room. “Ms Edwards, are you okay?” She pulled me up and wrapped her arms around me. “It’s going to be okay. You’ll be okay.” Martha has been with us since I was born. When my mother died five years after my birth, she took on a mother role for me. I sunk into her embrace crying my eyes out. We stayed in that position for a while before she stood up. “Come on let’s dry your hair and get you down for breakfast.” She took my hand and led me to the dresser while she picked up the blow dryer to help me dry my hair which was still wet from my bath. I went downstairs to eat and told one of the workers to remove the decorations from the room. I was eating when Raffael walked in. He went and sat at the other end of the table. “Good morning.” He said but my head was faced down focusing on my plate. I looked up at him and he was smiling. He never smiled when he was around me. I didn’t reply. “Good morning.” He repeated as one of the helpers brought him a plate to eat with. I abandoned my food and went upstairs into the room, our room. I slammed the door behind me but after a few seconds, it was opened again. “What is your problem, Camila?” He said as soon as he opened the door. “What is my problem? You. You’re my problem.” I said pointing at him aggressively. “Where were you last night?” He sighed. “That’s none of your business.” “None of my business? You’re my husband. Your whereabouts are my business.” He stared at me for a very long time before breaking into a laugh. “Okay. I was out with Tori.” He said while removing his tie and throwing it on the bed. I almost started crying. “You were out with Tori?” I asked like I hadn’t already seen the news. “On the night of our anniversary, you were out with another woman. Not just any woman your ex-girlfriend.” “Do you have a problem with that?” He questioned. “Do you even love me?” I asked, even though I already knew the answer to that question. He stared at me in disbelief. “Love you? That’s a question you’re seriously asking me. What do you think, Camila? If you were in my shoes would you love you?” I sniffed back the tears that were threatening to come out. “Get out, just go away. I want to be alone.” He left the room. I sat down on the bed trying to process what was happening. He didn’t care anymore. He didn’t have any respect for me again. Sure he didn’t get married to me willingly but we’d been tolerating each other for the past three years. The door opened again and he walked in and handed me a brown file. “Here.” He said stretching his hand towards me. I was hesitant to take it because I had good knowledge of what might be inside.Chapter One Hundred and Twelve Raphael’s POVAfter 7 hours, we finally landed in New York City. It was bright and early in the morning. I didn’t bother going home first but made my way straight to Camilla’s house. When I got there, the staff seemed calm. It wasn’t like anything unusual had happened. One of them let me in and I made my way to the dinning because that's where I heard talking coming from.“Daddy.” Rory left her breakfast and ran to me. “I missed you.”“I missed you too, baby.” I said carrying her up. “Where’s mommy?”“She’s upstairs.”“Raphael.” Martha said. “Weren’t you supposed to arrive later?”“Yeah, but change of plans. I flew in this morning. Can you get Camilla for me?”“Sure.” She went up the stairs. I walked back to the table with Rory to help her with her food. I tried to study Martha’s best language. It didn’t seem that anything was wrong with the chairman. I didn’t even bring up the fact that I tried to reach her yesterday. I'm pretty sure Camilla had somet
Chapter One Hundred and Eleven Camilla’s POVRory And I first stopped by the hospital before I went to drop her off at school. She wanted to drop off some flowers for grandpa. After dropping her off at school, I made my way to Skye’s house first.I hadn’t seen her in a long time. We both had busy schedules and she was spending most of her time with Alexander. They had officially become boyfriend and girlfriend. I was really happy for them. She ran to give me a hug when I parked and got out of the car.“I’ve missed you so much. It feels like it’s been ages.” She said.“I’ve missed you too.”We went inside the house and I plopped down on the couch.“So tell me, what’s up?” She said. We started updating each other on what had been going on in our lives, from work to personal stuff. She and Alexander were planning to go on a trip to Singapore for the summer. It had always been a dream destination of hers.“So when’s the wedding?” I asked and she laughed.“Very soon, don’t worry.” We both
Chapter One Hundred and Ten Raphael’s POVI woke up pretty early in the morning. I wanted to get ready early to go to the project site. I was dreading seeing Danielle. Not because I was afraid of her or anything but because I didn’t want things to be awkward between us. She told me things I'm sure nobody else knew. I wondered if she would remember. After getting ready, I headed out of my hotel room. I got in the elevator to head downstairs. When I got downstairs, some of the team members were waiting for the rest of us to arrive. Danielle hadn’t come yet. I assumed she would have a headache or handover from the previous night.I greeted the others and tried to make small talk with them. We waited for a few minutes before everybody arrived. Danielle kept on avoiding eye contact with me. She was probably embarrassed. That meant she remembered. She was still her usual self though, bossy and all. Some people got in the van to take them to the site while I went in the car with Danielle an
Chapter One Hundred and Nine Camilla’s POVI couldn’t sleep, not when my grandpa was in a coma. I was scared for him. What if he woke up and things weren’t the same as before?Even though I told Raphael not to worry about me and go on his trip, there was a part of me that wanted him to stay and be there for me. But I was trying not to be selfish. He still had his life apart from me.He came very early in the morning to see me and Rory before leaving for his trip. I got ready for the day, dropped Rory off at school and headed to the hospital to check up on him. There were still no signs of him waking up yet. His vitals were stable though, that was a little glimmer of hope. I stayed with him for about 2 hours before heading to the office. As much as I wanted to spend the whole day with him, life had to continue for the rest of us.As expected, there were already rumors of what happened to my grandpa. As much as we tried to keep everything under wraps, the media still found a way to get
Chapter One Hundred and Eight Raphael’s POVI was skeptical about leaving in a time when Camilla would need me the most but I had to take her word for it. Like she said, it was just two days. Soon I’ll be back with her.I paid a visit to her before I left for my trip that morning. As we took off on the plane, I tried my best not to think of her too much but still kept her at the back of my mind. If I needed to do my work efficiently, I needed to free myself from distractions. After seven hours, we finally landed in Los Angeles, California. We first made our way to the hotel, it was a long flight for all of us. When I settled in, I texted Camilla to ask her if there was any update on the chairman. She called and we talked for a while. He wasn’t showing any signs of waking up still.I had to get off the phone because we had dinner with some of the project managers along with Danielle and her team. I had to start getting ready quite early. After I was done getting ready, I got out of my
Chapter One Hundred and SevenCamilla’s POVI was getting ready for dinner with Raphael. I liked how things were with us. I wish there were a way for us to forget about our current lives and move across the country to start a new life. Being in the public eye was not for the weak.Everybody else in the house had fallen asleep except for my grandpa. He was in his study still doing work even though his doctor had advised him not to stay up too late.Raphael texted me to tell me he had arrived. I did finishing touches on my makeup, took one last look at myself in the mirror, and headed out. I had worn the jewelry he got for me at that auction. I wondered if he would notice.“Grandpa, don't stay up too late, okay?” I said as I opened the door to his study.“I know. You don't have to keep nagging me. Go, go. Have fun on your little date.”I laughed. “Bye. I love you.”“I love you too.”By the time I got downstairs, I heard the doorbell ring. I went and opened it. Raphael stood on the other
