Camilla ~~~~ After setting up the table I went upstairs to freshen up and wait for Raffael. It was our third anniversary and I made dinner. I also decorated the room with some flowers and scented candles. It was currently ten minutes past 10 and he still wasn’t back. I tried calling him but he wasn’t answering his phone. I called Anthony, his assistant but he also didn’t pick up the phone. It was getting really late but I was determined to stay awake till he came back. I went to make coffee so I could stay awake. “Ms Edwards I don’t think he’ll be back anytime soon. You should go to bed.” Martha, my housekeeper said with a pitiful expression on her face. “I’ll wait one more hour. You can go to bed.” I waved her off picking up my phone to try and call him again. “Not to overstep but you know he’s not coming back. Goodnight.” She said before retiring to her room. She wasn’t wrong. I knew he wasn’t coming back. At least not today. He’d probably show up tomorrow morning before I could wake up and then get ready to go to work again. That’s been his daily routine for the past few weeks. I thought he would come back since it was our anniversary. I was wrong. I was still going to wait. Who knows, he might surprise me. I felt someone tap me lightly. “Ms Edwards, Ms Edwards.” My eyes fluttered, adjusting to the bright light coming from the window. My back ached. I’d fallen asleep on the couch waiting for Raffael. I sat up on the couch stretching my hands while yawning. “Good morning,” Martha said. “I prepared a hot bath for you upstairs.” “Did he come back?” I asked, my eyes darting around the living room. “No ma’am.” I walked up the stairs and went into my room. Looking at the decorations from last night, I almost burst into tears. What was I thinking doing all this when I knew he wouldn’t even bother to come home? I went into the bathtub and lay there for a good thirty minutes before coming out. I stepped out of the bathroom still dripping with water when my phone rang. It was Skyee, my best friend. I picked up the phone. “Hey.” “You haven’t seen the news?” “What news?” “Check celebrity news, call me later.” I hung up the phone and turned on the TV. I went to the celebrity news channel and I saw it. My husband was seen at a club with his ex-girlfriend. The headlines said, “ Billionaire CEO Raffael Edwards spotted at a club with ex-girlfriend Tori on his marriage anniversary. Are he and Camilla getting divorced?” I collapsed on my bed. Tori is back in the city, and Raffael went out with her. My whole world was falling apart. So that’s why he didn’t come home last night. He was out with his ex-girlfriend. I couldn’t believe it. The tears I was holding back came in like a flood. I started sobbing uncontrollably. It felt like my heart was broken into pieces. Martha came into the room. “Ms Edwards, are you okay?” She pulled me up and wrapped her arms around me. “It’s going to be okay. You’ll be okay.” Martha has been with us since I was born. When my mother died five years after my birth, she took on a mother role for me. I sunk into her embrace crying my eyes out. We stayed in that position for a while before she stood up. “Come on let’s dry your hair and get you down for breakfast.” She took my hand and led me to the dresser while she picked up the blow dryer to help me dry my hair which was still wet from my bath. I went downstairs to eat and told one of the workers to remove the decorations from the room. I was eating when Raffael walked in. He went and sat at the other end of the table. “Good morning.” He said but my head was faced down focusing on my plate. I looked up at him and he was smiling. He never smiled when he was around me. I didn’t reply. “Good morning.” He repeated as one of the helpers brought him a plate to eat with. I abandoned my food and went upstairs into the room, our room. I slammed the door behind me but after a few seconds, it was opened again. “What is your problem, Camila?” He said as soon as he opened the door. “What is my problem? You. You’re my problem.” I said pointing at him aggressively. “Where were you last night?” He sighed. “That’s none of your business.” “None of my business? You’re my husband. Your whereabouts are my business.” He stared at me for a very long time before breaking into a laugh. “Okay. I was out with Tori.” He said while removing his tie and throwing it on the bed. I almost started crying. “You were out with Tori?” I asked like I hadn’t already seen the news. “On the night of our anniversary, you were out with another woman. Not just any woman your ex-girlfriend.” “Do you have a problem with that?” He questioned. “Do you even love me?” I asked, even though I already knew the answer to that question. He stared at me in disbelief. “Love you? That’s a question you’re seriously asking me. What do you think, Camila? If you were in my shoes would you love you?” I sniffed back the tears that were threatening to come out. “Get out, just go away. I want to be alone.” He left the room. I sat down on the bed trying to process what was happening. He didn’t care anymore. He didn’t have any respect for me again. Sure he didn’t get married to me willingly but we’d been tolerating each other for the past three years. The door opened again and he walked in and handed me a brown file. “Here.” He said stretching his hand towards me. I was hesitant to take it because I had good knowledge of what might be inside.Chapter One Hundred and Forty EightRaphael’s POVThe gala was going pretty well. All my anxiousness and nervousness had worn down as soon as we stepped out of that vehicle. The reporters outside were going crazy. They didn’t expect Camilla and me to be together, let alone me attending the event. For the first few minutes, I went around greeting guests. This was an opportunity to network and make connections. Camilla’s grandpa gave the welcome speech and did the ribbon cutting and the event started.First, we had dinner. There were quiet conversations going on around all the tables. The turnout for the gala was a lot. A lot of people respected Camilla’s grandpa in the industry. After the dinner, there was a showcase. A band performed which was the chairman’s favorite band. There was an auction too and Camilla hosted that section. I was beaming with smiles watching her hold her own on the stage. After that part was concluded, the chairman went on stage and said he had an announcement t
Chapter One Hundred and Forty Seven Camilla’s POVAfter checking out the venue and making sure everything was okay, we headed back home to start getting ready. My grandpa who had been out all day had finally returned. The house was packed. We had five hours to get ready. They got started on my hair and makeup. My dress had been altered because of my cast. I didn’t want the attention to be on my cast and I also didn’t want to hide it so the stylists came up with something that met in the middle.I was a bit nervous about the night because after today, I would officially start my duties as CEO. I just knew there would be a lot of public uproar after that added to the fact that I was going to appear on the carpet with Raphael. For the first time, Rory was also going to be attending an event like this. It was a special moment for me and I wanted her to share that with me.After I was done with my hair and makeup, I moved on to getting into my dress. Some of my bruises that were still vis
Chapter One Hundred and Forty SixCamilla’s POVI got back on the bed and started crying. There were a lot of things running through my head. I heard a knock on the door but I didn’t respond. I didn’t have the strength to. After a few seconds, the door opened. I was faced away from the door so I didn’t see who came in.“Camilla.” I heard Skye’s voice. My cries became louder. She came to the other side of the bed and started comforting me. “Raphael told us what happened. Do you want to talk about it?”She helped me sit up on the bed. I tried as much as possible to dry my eyes. “I didn’t mean to go off on him like that.”“I know and Raphael knows that too. Clearly whatever Isaiah said to you might have triggered you.” She comforted me.“I was just thinking about it too much and blamed him for everything that happened even though I know that Raphael wouldn’t hurt me like that.”“You just need to talk to him. Don’t let Isaiah get to you, okay? You have great plans ahead of you. Raphael is
Chapter One Hundred and Forty Five Raphael’s POVI left the room with all types of emotions. Camilla’s words hit me like a huge brick. I didn’t even know what to do or say.I went downstairs and informed the others of what had happened. Skye went upstairs to check on her. I told her grandpa I didn't know what the conversation was between her and Isaiah. I told him I would take care of Isaiah soon and that he didn’t have to worry about helping me.I left the house and told my secretary to contact Isaiah. I wanted to deal with this once and for all. I didn't like the fact that Camilla thought that being with me was bringing her so much trouble. I couldn’t let that happen again.Isaiah sent a message back saying that if I had anything to say to him, I should send it through his team. I drove angrily to his house, alone. The security men tried to stop me from getting into the house but I wasn’t backing down. I guess they heard word from Isaiah to let me in.I still remembered from the l
Chapter One Hundred and Forty Four Raphael’s POVCamilla was set to be discharged that morning so I wanted to take her home myself. When I got there, I noticed she was acting a little bit different but I just put it off as her just being tired.I tried talking to her on the ride home, she wasn’t having it. She was either giving me one word replies or was just nodding her head. I gave up trying to talk to her.I helped her out of the car and upstairs because she insisted on going to sleep. “Do you need help getting in bed?” I asked.“I'm not crippled.” I could hear the anger in her voice. I didn’t know what was wrong but I would give her time to tell me.“Fine.” I took a step back. “I’ll come back to check on you later.” I said and left the room.I was still worried when I left the room but I decided not to dwell too much on it. If anything was bothering her, she would tell me.I went back downstairs and told Martha that she should take time out to check on Camilla.“I don’t know if
Chapter One Hundred and Forty ThreeCamilla’s POVI froze in the bed and slowly opened my eyes. The lights were off and I could only make out the shadow of the person.“What are you doing here?” I asked.“Came to see how you were doing.” He answered.“Isaiah, get the hell out.” I said almost screaming. He walked closer to me and was now beside the bed. There was so little I could do seeing as I was still feeling pain all over my body. “Calm down. I'm not here to hurt you. I'm only here to sympathize. It’s a shame you got into an accident just days before your gala.” He said.“I don’t need your sympathy. Get out or I’ll scream.”He laughed. “You don’t need to scream. I just came to give my condolences. Get well soon.” He said and left the room.I was left frozen on the bed. I didn’t know what to say or do. After a few minutes, Martha returned to the room.
