A few days had passed since that terrifying incident with Lily. My heart still weighed heavy with guilt, knowing that her condition had finally stabilized only to worsen again after Jordan's words. Lily was a delicate soul, and the weight of those careless comments seemed to have cut deeper than I expected.

I had always tried to shield her from the harshness of the world, but despite all that I was failing miserably.

I kept hoping Jordan had fully understood my actions—understood that Sebastian and I were divorced for good, but it seemed like he, just like Sebastian, thought my departure was temporary. I knew I had to find a way to talk to him about this, to make him understand once and for all.

I sat in the living room, quietly waiting, when Logan finally came out of his study, his face set in a calm, composed expression.

"How is she?" I asked, my voice full of concern, hoping Lily had calmed down after the whole ordeal.

Logan nodded, his usual stoic demeanor not betraying the tensio

The cold night air felt heavy around us.Lily stood frozen by the glass doors, her small hands shaking slightly. Her toy bear, the one she carried everywhere, slipped from her grasp and fell to the floor with a soft thud. She looked at Logan with wide eyes.“Daddy…” she said quietly, her voice trembling, “is that lady really my mom? Did my mom come back?”Logan looked like he had been hit in the chest. His lips parted, but no sound came out. He took a step forward, then stopped. His hands were trembling.“I—” he began. But I stepped in.“Lily,” I said gently, kneeling down and pulling her into a hug. “Come here, sweet girl.”She came into my arms easily, still staring at Logan over my shoulder. I brushed her hair gently, heart pounding.“Why didn’t you tell me?” she whispered into my neck. “I thought… I thought she didn’t want me.”My chest ached at her words.I looked up at Logan, and he was clearly struggling. Pain flickered across his face. He bent down next to me.“Lily,” he said

I didn’t want to talk to him.Not after everything he had done. Not after everything he had ruined. But there Sebastian stood, as if nothing had happened. As if we could pretend we were fine.“Healey,” he said softly, “can we talk?”I crossed my arms. “No. I don’t think we should.”He frowned, stepping closer. “I just thought maybe… we could still be friends.”I stared at him, stunned. Friends? After all this?“We’re not friends, Sebastian,” I said coldly. “We can never be friends.”His smile dropped.“The only thing we share now,” I continued, “is Jordan. That’s it. We’re just his parents. Nothing more.”“But—”“No,” I said, cutting him off. “Don’t try to turn this into something it’s not.”He looked away for a second, then back at me. “Don’t you want to know what Logan told me?”I hesitated. He took that silence as a yes.“He warned me,” Sebastian said. “Told me to stay away. Said I’ve hurt you enough.”I nodded once. “He was right.”“But that’s not why I stepped back,” he said quic

The lights in the hallway were softer here.I signaled to Susan with a little wave and whispered, “I’ll be back soon.”She nodded and gave me a smile, but I caught a flicker of something in her expression—hesitation, maybe. Then I noticed her glance toward Logan’s mother. A beat later, Susan walked away with her. Together. Like they knew each other.Like they’d known each other for years. How do they know each other? I wondered. But I didn’t have time to think about it because the mayor’s wife gently took my arm.“Come,” she said kindly, “let’s go somewhere quieter.”I followed her, still feeling the sting of what had just happened in the main hall. My hands were shaking a little, but her presence made me feel calm. The way she walked, the way she held herself—it was like she had seen everything and nothing could shock her.She led me through a side corridor. We passed a few rooms until she opened a door and stepped inside. It was a small, private sitting room with velvet chairs and t

“Do you have to go with him?” I asked quietly, my voice barely above a whisper as Logan turned back toward me.Logan offered a soft smile, the kind that tried to reassure but didn’t quite reach his eyes. “It’s nothing serious. Just a quick conversation. I’ll be back soon.”I opened my mouth, wanting to ask more, to say I didn’t like the way that man had looked at him. But Logan gave me a subtle look. A don’t-worry look.I swallowed my words and nodded slowly. “Okay.”He leaned in, voice lower now. “If anything feels strange… text me. Right away.”Then he was gone. And I was alone.I stood in a corner of the grand hall, surrounded by people who sparkled under the golden light like they were born to belong here. My purse felt too tight in my hands. My dress, once something I’d loved, now felt too bold, too bright.I didn't know where to go.“Feeling lost?” a warm voice said beside me.I turned to see Susan—the kind woman I’d met earlier. She held a wine glass in one hand, her lipstick a

Early in the morning, I stood in front of the mirror, letting the makeup artist curl my hair. I had barely slept the night before. My stomach twisted in knots, and I kept biting the inside of my cheek. This was the mayor’s wife’s birthday party—not some neighborhood dinner. It was the kind of event where everyone wore designer gowns and spoke a language made of influence and money. The stylist helped me step into the dress Logan had sent for me the night before. It was a floor-length gown made of pale ivory satin, with a sweetheart neckline and delicate off-shoulder sleeves that rested gently on my arms. The fabric shimmered faintly under the light, like moonlight on calm water. A thin silver belt cinched at the waist, giving shape to my frame, and the skirt flowed gracefully to the ground with every step I took.Around my neck was a dainty diamond necklace—just enough sparkle to catch the eye without being overwhelming. My makeup was soft and n

The kitchen was filled with the smell of garlic and sesame oil. I stood near the stove, stirring the sizzling vegetables with one hand while holding Lily’s little drawing in the other.“Does it look like Daddy?” she asked, standing on the stool beside me, peering into the paper she had just finished.I glanced down and smiled. The drawing was of Logan—well, a version of him with bright blue eyes, a rainbow tie, and a crown on his head.“Yes,” I said gently. “Very handsome.”She grinned, pleased, then hopped down from the stool, skipping into the dining room. I looked at the clock. Logan would be back soon.Earlier that day, after he handed me the contract for the comic licensing, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I was overwhelmed. It was too big. And too hard to accept. So, I had decided to cook a full dinner tonight—to show my thanks, but also to draw a clear line. I used my sala
