Julia’s POV

“Oh, but of course,” Celeste sneered. “Some women will do anything to climb their way up. Isn’t that right, a whore…”

I landed her a hot slap. The slap came before she could finish the sentence. A sharp sound filled across the room as my palm connected with her cheek.

“One more word from you, I’ll let you see reasons why you should never interfere in my matter.”

Celeste staggered backward, losing her balance and collapsing onto the floor immediately my hand landed on her face. She wasn’t expecting it. A shrill scream tore from her throat as she clutched her burning cheek.

“Alex! Alex!” she wailed.

I stood, waiting to see what would happen next.

Alex moved fast, his expression darkening as he stepped toward me, his arm grabbing my wrist and just as he was about to hit me, his hand was caught mid air.

“You dare lay a hand on her? I’ll rip you off.

Lucas’s grip was firm, and his cold voice sliced through the tension.

Alex turned to glare at him, but I saw fear in his eyes.

Julia’s POVI forced myself to focus on something else but my eyes kept drifting toward the grand double doors where Celeste stood as I watched her being dramatic.“Alex!” she screamed his name as she leaned forward, trying to push past the security guard. “Alex, I’m here! Tell them to let me in!”Alex who was across the room, shaking hands with a group of suited men, his back to her. If he heard her, he gave no sign of it because the background music didn’t let him. The security guard placed a firm hand on Celeste’s shoulder, guiding her back toward the entrance. “Ma’am, you’re making a scene,” he said, his tone calm but cautious. “If you don’t have an invitation, you need to leave, or I’ll have to escort you out.”Celeste’s face flushed a deeper shade of red, her hands balling into fists at her sides. “This is ridiculous! He’s right there! Alex!” Her voice screamed out again and a few heads turned, whispers rippling through the crowd but Alex himself did not hear her. Suddenly, my

Julia’s POVThe morning light filtered through the curtains, casting soft golden streaks across the guest room. I stirred, my body weak as my eyes fluttered open, and for a moment, I was disoriented, the plush bedding and unfamiliar walls pulling me from the haze of sleep. Then I felt the weight of an arm draped across my waist. My heart lurched as I realized I was curled against Declan who was still asleep, our bare skin pressed together, the sheet covering us but I could feel we were both naked.Panic surged through me as last night came rushing back, the kiss, the way his hands had moved over me, the way I’d let myself get lost in him. My cheeks burned as I carefully extricated myself from his hold, moving inch by inch to avoid waking him. His face was peaceful, lips slightly parted, his hair falling messily over his forehead. For a fleeting second, I wanted to stay, to trace the lines of his jaw and pretend the world outside this room didn’t exist. But reality crashed in. I had t

Julia’s POVWhat? I glanced at Jake, who had that mischievous glint in his eyes whenever he wanted to act naughty.“Sleep over?” I repeated as I turned to face him fully. “Jake, no. It’s not that late, and we should just head back home. We can do a sleepover some other time.”Jake crossed his arms, his grin widening. “Come on, Jules. Live a little. When’s the last time you had a spontaneous night? This place is basically a castle.”I opened my mouth to argue, but Declan, standing beside me, stepped in before I could get a word out. His voice was calm, hid hand brushing lightly against my arm. “Julia, you guys are welcome to stay. We’ve got plenty of guest rooms. You don’t have to worry about a thing. I’ll make sure you’re comfortable.”His eyes met mine and for a moment, I forgot how to form a coherent sentence. The idea of staying here, in this beautiful place with Declan, felt like a dream I wasn’t sure I was ready to wake up from. But Jake’s insistence was relentless, and I could

Julia’s POVThe late afternoon sun spilled golden light through my bedroom window. I stood in front of the full-length mirror, smoothing the hem of the dress Jake had ordered for me from some chic online boutique he swore by. The dress was a deep emerald green, sleeveless, with a fitted bodice that flared into a soft, flowing skirt that hit just above my knees. The fabric shimmered faintly when I moved, catching the light in a way that made me feel like I was glowing. Jake had insisted it was “perfect for a party,” and for once, I didn’t argue. I paired it with strappy shoes and a gold necklace with a pendant. My hair was loose, curling softly over my shoulders, and I’d gone light on the makeup, just enough to highlight my eyes and add a touch of coral to my lips.Jake, sprawled across my bed in a navy button-down and tailored black suit, looked effortlessly cool. The shirt was slightly unbuttoned at the collar, giving him that relaxed yet polished vibe he always pulled off so well.

Julia’s POV His tone, so commanding as it ignited something furious inside me. I crossed my arms as I glared at him and then snapped. “Apologize?” Stepping forward. “To her? You’ve got to be kidding me, Alex. If anyone should be apologizing, it’s Celeste. She’s the one who’s been playing her little games, twisting everything to make herself look like the victim. I’m not falling for it, and I’m not saying sorry.” Celeste let out a soft, dramatic sob, her hand fluttering to her chest as if my words had wounded her. Her tear-streaked face turned toward Alex, pleading, but I kept my eyes on him, daring him to push me further. His jaw tightened, and he stepped closer. “It’s just an apology, Julia,” he said, his hazel eyes narrowing. “It doesn’t cost you anything. Just say it, and we can all move on. Why are you making this harder than it needs to be?” Before I could fire back, Jake’s voice cut through. “She’s not apologizing, Alex. Not now, not ever.” He stepped between us, his b

Julia’s POV“Celeste has gone insane, and I am not surprised,” Jake said, his voice dripping with disdain as he approached me and snatched the ludo board from my hands. The velvet box wobbled in his grip, the red ribbon trailing like a forgotten afterthought. Before I could process his words, he stormed toward the door, yanking it open with such force that it rattled against the frame.“Jake! Where are you going?” I called out, my voice filled with confusion, but he didn’t even glance back. His broad shoulders disappeared into the hallway, the ludo board tucked under his arm as he didn’t spare me a glance. I scrambled to my feet, my legs squeaking against the floor as I chased after him. “Jake, wait! What are you doing?”He didn’t answer, his silence more infuriating than any response could have been. His long strides ate up the distance, and I had to jog to keep up as he descended the staircase, his legs thudding against each step. My heart pounded and dread swirling in my chest. Wha
