Chapter 1 Let's Get Married

Author: The Kitten
Chapter 1

"Miss Walker, I don't have too many requirements for my girlfriend. All you have to do after we're married is to quit your job and be a full-time housewife. My work is tiring, you need to know how to take good care of me. You will also have to make me proud when we're out as well. I earn quite a lot a month. My monthly salary is 1600 dollars. I'll give you 200 dollars a month for your living expenses. It's quite a lot, but I don't want to waste any of it."

Laura Walker was sitting on the other side of the dining table drinking tea. The person who was speaking was her blind date for today.

"I'm quite satisfied with you, Miss Walker. What do you think of me?" The man looked at Laura's delicate face with perverted eyes. He had a confident look on his face.

He reached out his hands in an attempt to hold Laura's hands which were on the table, but Laura quickly withdrew her hands when she saw what the man was trying to do.

Laura smiled at him, picked up the cup on the table and then poured the tea at the man.

"I'm sorry, but I'm not satisfied with you."

The man had been looking at her with the same perverted look ever since she arrived. He had also been trying to touch her multiple times as well. Laura couldn't stand it anymore.

She stood up and then picked up her bag.

When the man saw what Laura was doing, he quickly shouted, "You've ordered all this food. I've only ordered the tea. You can pay for all of this!"

The food was ordered by Laura, but she didn't even take a bite. All she did was drink some tea. Instead, the man ate most of the food.

Laura didn't want to argue with such a person. She paid for the food and turned on her heels to leave.

If it weren't for the fact that her grandmother was seriously ill and wanted to see her get married, instead of being sold by her mother to a random person for a high bride price, Laura wouldn't have gone on blind dates.

Laura sighed and was about to walk out of the restaurant, but that was when she heard her phone rang.

She picked her phone up to take a look. That was when she saw a stranger had sent her a private message.

"Want to get married?"

Half an hour later, Laura appeared in front of the Civil Affairs Bureau whilst nervously fiddling with her clothes.

The person who had sent her the message had a pure black display picture. The man told her that he needed someone to marry and that there would be a contract. The two of them would be divorced a year later.

According to the file of the man, he was 30 years old and worked for a small company.

Laura didn't have high requirements. She was 25 years old. The man was five years older than her and that was something she could accept.

As long as the man wasn't too weird, Laura was able to accept anything to make her grandmother not worry about her. The marriage would only be for a year anyway.

Laura had thought that the man would be average-looking. Otherwise, he wouldn't still be single at the age of 30. That was why she didn't even care when Chris Jacobs stood in front of her.

"You're Laura Walker?" asked Chris.

His voice was deep, his facial features were perfect and his dark eyes were sizing Laura up and down.

Laura couldn't tell how much the black suit he was wearing would cost, but she felt that the man looked great.

Chris raised his hand and looked at the watch on his wrist. "I'm in a hurry. We've got 10 minutes."

Only then did Laura come back to her senses and realize that this man was the man she was going to marry. She quickly nodded. "Oh, okay."

When they walked out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, Laura looked down at the marriage certificate in her hands. Both of them had blank faces in both photos. They didn't look like they were getting married at all.

However, that didn't matter. With the marriage certificate, Laura felt that her grandmother wouldn't be so worried about her anymore.

"This is my number. Don't call me if there isn't anything important." Chris gave Laura his phone number and left without turning back.

It was a good thing that Laura had a good memory. She was able to remember the phone number after hearing it only once.

Chris got into a car that looked normal on the outside, but was actually luxurious on the inside.

He looked at the marriage certificate in his hand, took a photo and sent it to someone.

"This is what you wanted."

The two children attracted Laura's attention and she just watched them play. The two children looked a little alike. The boy was obviously a little older than the girl. They were most likely brother and sister. The little girl noticed Laura's gaze, so she walked up to her. "Are you looking at us?"The little boy noticed his sister standing in front of two strangers. He then rushed over and stood between the girl, and Laura and Chris with an alarming look on his face."Don't worry. We won't hurt you." Laura squatted down so that she was the same height as the two children."I think I know what she wants, Owen," the little girl suddenly said with a serious face."What does she want?" The little boy's face softened when he looked at the little girl."She's looking at us, so she must be wanting to play with us!" the girl said innocently and then looked at Laura. "Am I right?"Laura squatted down and pinched the girl's face with a smile. "Yes, you are! I love children who are cute l

"Harry and I are planning to go to the beach after this, do you want to come with us?" Shannon asked Laura. After giving it some thought, Laura nodded. "Sure!"The three of them waited for about a quarter of an hour after the meal before Chris came to pick them up."Have you finished?" Chris was asking everyone but his eyes were fixed on Laura."Yes, we have. I have to admit, the food here is actually quite nice," said Harry. He seemed to not have had enough as he placed some more food in his mouth."Do you want some more? We're in no rush anyway."Laura was worried that Harry didn't have enough to eat."No, I'm full. Let's head to the beach." The thought of going to the beach and enjoying the night view with Shannon made Harry very excited."What beach?" asked Chris. He was a little puzzled."Shannon just said that they were going to the beach and asked me if I wanted to join them. It felt like a good idea to me so I agreed. Do you want to come as well?" Laura turned to look

Lucas and Dawn waited for a while but their food still wasn't served."What's taking them so long?" mumbled Dawn."They're probably busy. We don't have any other plans tonight, there's no rush."Lucas picked up his phone and began playing a game. At the same time, he poured a glass of water for Dawn. "Here, have some water., it'll ease the hunger"Dawn was rendered speechless. She picked up the glass, took a sip of water, and then began looking around. That was when she noticed a table of a man and two women receiving their food as soon as they sat down.Seeing that, Dawn shouted, "Waitress!"A girl in her early 20s quickly walked over to her. "How may I help?""When will our food be served? We've already been waiting for a long time." Dawn was a little dissatisfied."I'm sorry, Miss. The kitchen is already preparing your dishes and the food will be served very soon," the waitress said apologetically."What do you mean by that? We've already been waiting for ages. Not only th

"Mr. Summers, Mr. Scholfield is waiting for you in the meeting room.""Okay."Nathan tidied his desk, picked up a file and headed towards the meeting room.As soon as he walked in, he saw Lucas sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed.Lucas had a lazy temperament and his lips were curved into a mischievous smile. He looked at his watch and said, "Mr. Summers, you're three minutes late."Nathan was used to Lucas's behavior, so he just looked at Lucas indifferently. "Here's the contract. Check to see if you have any problems with it."Lucas sat up, took the contract, and flicked through it casually. "Where's the pen?""Aren't you going to read it more carefully?""I don't think that Mr. Summers is going to trick me, right?" asked Lucas. His voice was casual and his hand was getting ready to hold a pen.Nathan smiled, took out a pen from a drawer, and signed his name on the contract before passing it to Lucas.Lucas held the pen tightly in his hand as he signed his name on the

I've also heard that you came to the police station instead of to work, so I thought I'd come to give you a lift on the way back."Amelia nodded with a smile.
