Monica followed Adriana into the dark room, her steps hesitant.

"Are you ready?" Adriana’s laugh echoed off the walls.

Monica rolled her eyes, impatience bubbling inside her. Adriana flicked on the lights, revealing... a plain office.

Nothing special. Nothing worth the drama.

"What the hell is your problem?" Monica snapped. "Did you drag me all the way here just to show me an office?"

Adriana only smiled wider.

"Come on in," she beckoned.

Monica narrowed her eyes. "To where again?"

Without answering, Adriana strode to the far wall and pressed a hidden button.

A low rumble sounded—and a section of the wall slid away, revealing a hidden room bathed in eerie blue light.

Monica froze.

This was supposed to be a new building... why the hell was there already a secret room?

Every instinct screamed at her to turn around.

But curiosity—or maybe something deeper—pulled her forward.

She followed Adriana into the room—and stopped dead.

Her heart slammed against her ribs.

Max pushed the front door open with one hand, the other still holding a paper bag of warm takeout. The scent of garlic and chili filled the entryway, but the usual sarcasm that he was expecting was missing. No Lake lounging on the couch. No frown or rolled eyes.Just silence. He stepped in, shutting the door behind him.“Lake?” he called, tone easy at first. “I brought food. The kind you pretend to hate.”Still nothing.Max’s gaze swept the space. The blanket Lake had used was still folded at the foot of the couch, his phone charger still plugged in by the wall. The pajama top Max had given him hung off the back of the kitchen chair. A mug sat on the counter—half-drunk tea. Cold.He checked the bathroom.Empty.Bedroom.Untouched.Max’s chest tightened. He got a call from his mother, so he left in a hurry—Lake was still asleep when he went out.He set the bag of food down and grabbed his phone. No message. No missed call. He unlocked it and dialed Lake’s number.Ring.Ring.Voicemail.

Lake pushed through the hospital entrance, heart pounding as he made a beeline for the front desk. “I’m here to see Mrs. Cross—my mother,” he said, breathless. “I got a call saying she had a seizure.” The receptionist glanced up, surprised by his urgency. “Seizure? Are you sure?” Lake blinked, confused by her calm tone. “That’s what the caller said. I came as fast as I could.” She tapped quickly at her keyboard, eyes scanning the screen. “Room 409, right? Let me check...” A moment passed. Then she looked up with a reassuring smile. “Mrs. Cross is perfectly stable. She’s been under observation all night—no incident reported. In fact, she’s listed as resting comfortably.” Lake stared at her, disoriented. “What?” “There’s no record of a seizure,” she repeated, tilting her head slightly. “You’re welcome to go up and see her, of course.” The thudding in Lake’s chest didn’t slow. If anything, it worsened. He straightened, nodding once but distracted, unsettled. “Thanks…” “Who mad

Monica sat by the edge of the hospital bed, her hands tightly wrapped around Liam’s pale, motionless fingers. The soft, rhythmic beep of the machines was the only thing reassuring her that he was still alive. Still here.Barely.Tears streaked silently down her cheeks, her eyes red and swollen from the hours she’d spent crying since the doctor delivered the news, . She had refused to move. Nurses came and went. Beatrice paced outside. Brie sulked in the hallway. But Monica remained right there, rooted to that chair like her very presence might keep him tethered to this world.“Please…” her voice cracked as she whispered the word. Her forehead dropped to their intertwined hands.“Please, wake up. I don't want anything to happen to you.” Her breath hitched. “Not like this.”The weight of everything pressed down on her chest. The betrayal. The hurt. The lies. But all of that… paled now against the fear that she might lose him before he ever truly understood what he’d done to her.“You do

After practice, Angel headed back home. Her limbs were sore, her thoughts even more so. The hallway lights felt dimmer than usual. Or maybe it was just her. She pushed open the door and stepped inside. The scent of lemon polish and something simmering in the kitchen greeted her. Home. In the living room, her mother sat on the couch—elegant as ever in her silk robe, hair tied neatly into a bun. The TV flickered softly, muted on some drama. "Hey, Mom," Angel said, dropping her bag near the door. Her mother turned toward her, smiling. "Babygirl, you're back already?" "Yeah, Mom." Her voice lacked its usual lilt. Her mother’s smile faded as she noticed the slouch in Angel’s posture, the tired weight in her eyes. "Are you okay? You look… drained." Angel hesitated. She wasn’t sure how much she could say. Or how much she even understood about what she was feeling. "I’m fine," she lied, moving to sit on the far end of the couch. Her mother muted the TV completely and turned

Angel stood frozen. That… was the longest Monica had ever spoken to her. Not with polite smiles or backstage nods. But with truth—raw and stripped bare.Angel had always told herself Monica was just a proud bitch. Aloof. Perfect on purpose. The kind of girl who acted like she had everything handed to her.But now?It was like the floor under that belief cracked. She didn’t look proud. She looked tired. Tired of pretending, tired of carrying it all without snapping.Angel’s throat tightened. She thought about the way she used to laugh with the other models, whispering behind Monica’s back. Rolling her eyes anytime Monica got featured. She used to think Monica deserved the criticism—because it must be easy for someone like her.But it wasn’t.It never had been. Her fists clenched at her sides. She turned to head back down the hall when she saw someone staring—an old janitor, maybe in his sixties, leaning slightly on his broom, blinking at her like she was part of a movie scene.“What?”

The Next DayMonica pushed the glass doors open and stepped into Mo’s Fashion Empire. The hum of movement, the clatter of heels, and the soft buzz of phones filled the air.Diane spotted her instantly.“Thank God you’re here,” she said, walking briskly over. “We’ve got to start prepping for the after-party. That’s where the real game starts—and we only have two days.”“Good morning to you too,” Monica said with a faint smile.Diane paused, sighing. “Sorry. My head’s been spinning since six a.m. Good morning, Monica.”Monica chuckled. “You’re doing great. But I might not be able to stay long. I need to stop by the hospital to see someone.”“That’s okay,” Diane nodded, already flipping through her notes. “Honestly, after the runway, you deserve a day off. But just know—everyone’s talking. You killed it.”“I should be the one thanking you,” Monica replied. “For trusting me in the first place.”Diane glanced up from her tablet. “You earned that trust. Now go up to the fashion team—they’ll
