Sabrina’s POV

“What happened to Maddie was a tragedy, but it doesn’t put a halt to us performing our duties,” Nanny Tessa clapped her hands. “Now off you go, no more slacking!”

The kitchen bustled with maids scrambling around trying to get to their duties.

I gently walked to the side and leaned on the kitchen island, spaced out as I mulled over the events from last night.

Suddenly Anne slammed a bowl of garlic on the counter in front of me together with a knife, startling me out of my thoughts.

“Quit daydreaming and peel off these garlic. Your days of being a Princess are over.” She sneered, rolling her eyes before she walked away.

I sighed and picked up the bowl. I would never understand Anne’s hatred towards me.

I proceeded to peel the garlic just when Ian, Damon’s beta, walked in with two guards.

That guy…I recognized one of the guards. He was the one with Maddie in my dream.

My hands froze over the bowl.

“Regarding the accident that happened in the wee hours of the morning today,” Ian said, his icy blue eyes scanning everyone in the kitchen. “We’re are conducting an investigation and are going to question everyone. Your cooperation will be appreciated.” He concluded seriously.

“If you don’t mind, we’d like to start with you nanny Tessa,” Ian said and gestured his hand for her to follow him.

“Sure child.” Nanny Tessa said and followed Ian.

“The rest of you, follow me.” The guard with Maddie in my dream…what was his name again, Mar… Marcus, spoke and my eyes glued on him, the harsh way he treated Maddie replaying in my head.

The servants scrambled out of the kitchen but I stood still, my eyes still locked on the guard.

“What? You like him?” Anne shoved me and said out loud causing everyone around to laugh. “He already has a mate and even if he didn’t…” she scoffed, “he wouldn’t pick you.”

I rolled my eyes and left the kitchen, ignoring Anne.

The guards took us to an empty room I had never been to on the second floor. The maids gathered in different cliques, gossiping and coming up with different theories of why Maddie jumped.

I leaned onto the wall, away from the other servants, my mind reeling.

A few minutes later, Nanny Tessa returned and another maid went for questioning.

“Oh dear,” Nanny Tessa groaned, bending down and massaging her weak knees.

I looked around and saw a chair in a corner.

“Here Nanny,” I placed the chair for Nanny Tessa to sit.

“Thank you dear,” she sighed. “They think Maddie’s death wasn’t suicide. Who would kill such a beautiful young girl?” Nanny Tessa Lamented.

“It was suicide,” I muttered without even realizing it.

“And how are you so sure?” I heard Anne’s irritating voice from behind. I didn’t know when she came there.

“I- I mean…she fell right.” I stuttered. Why did I have to blurt that out?

“Someone must have pushed her, who knows? Maybe you?” She sneered.

“Anne!” Nanny Tessa scolded sternly.

“I’m not wrong now am I Nanny?” Anne retorted. “This has never happened before and now just a week after she came here, someone killed herself.”

“Any more word from you and I’ll seize your meals for two days!” Nanny Tessa was visibly riled up.

I placed a hand on her shoulders. “It’s okay Nanny, I’m used to it.”

Anne scoffed and looked away.

Just then, a maid returned from questioning.

“You’re next Anne,” she relayed and Anne gave me a stinky look before she left.

“Don’t mind Anne, she’s a good girl but very insecure.” Nanny Tessa said tiredly.

I gave her a tight smile. Anne, good? I’d never believe that.

Anne soon returned and I was the last person left to be questioned.

For some reason, my heart was beating rapidly and my hands clammed up with sweat.

I entered the questioning room and found Marcus seated in the chair designated for the interrogator. Ian stood by the side observing and taking notes, while the second guard stood behind Marcus.

I slowly closed the door behind me and made my way to sit opposite Marcus.

“From what I know, you’ve only been here for barely a week so I’m assuming you don’t have the information we need. But, in your few days here, have you ever spoken to Maddie?” Marcus asked, not maintaining eye contact with me as he scribbled on the paper before him, ticking my name off I guess.

“I have,” I answered taking a deep breath in. “Maddie was the one person who stood up for me when everyone bullied me.”

Now I had Marcus' attention. He raised his head to look at me. “Did she tell you anything?”

I gave him a good look. I was sure he was the one.

“Why?” I asked, my emotions getting the better of me. “All Maddie did was love you.”

I could see Marcus shift uncomfortably in his seat, his fingers trembling as they struggled to keep their hold on the pen between them. “I’m sorry but I do not understand. Who did Maddie love?”

I shook my head trying to get a grip, but my mouth moved on its own. “Was Maddie just someone you could discard just because you found your mate? She was pregnant for you and yet you treated her that way!” I breathed out. My outburst was fueled by how much I related to Maddie.

I remembered how Logan had treated me all because his mate wanted to toy with me.

“How did you know Maddie was pregnant?” Ian moved towards us, “that information wasn’t disclosed to anyone.”

I froze. What have I done? It was just a dream, why I was accusing Marcus based off a dream?

I calmed down and now I could finally think logically, I regretted every word that just came out of my mouth.

“Come on little mouse, why did you stop talking?” I froze at the sound of that voice.

I slowly turned back and saw Damon standing at the entrance with a wide smile on his lips. When did he get here?

“I think you’re mistaken,” Marcus spoke and I turned to look at him. “Maddie was like a little sister to me, she may have loved me more than that, but I would never have sexual relations with her let alone get her pregnant.” He said with a straight face.

For some odd reason, my blood boiled at the words he spat. “You’re a liar,” I said through gritted teeth.

“Do you have evidence?” Ian asked, his eyes staring at me like he could see through my soul. “This is a very serious allegation. Maddie was fifteen.”

“I have the evidence,” I heard Damon’s voice and I turned back to see him holding up an old journal. “Maddie’s diary.” He said and came to stand where Marcus was. He patted Marcus on his shoulder. “Just a sister to you, you say huh?”

Marcus threw himself on the floor. “I’m sorry Alpha Damon, I didn’t know she would Jump to her death.” He pleaded rubbing his hands together.

I looked at the scene completely horrified. I was right. My dream was right. Just before I could come to terms with it, my hands flew to my mouth and my eyes widened in horror when Damon took out a gun from his back pocket and pointed it at Marcus.

“Ask Maddie for forgiveness in the afterlife,” Damon said calmly before pulling the trigger.

Marcus' body plopped to the ground, his blood pooling underneath him.

“How do you like that little mouse?” Damon turned to me with a sinister smile on his face.
