Tessa was already at her office by the time I arrived.

Today, she dressed in a white blouse tucked into a tight-fitted, coffee-brown skirt that accentuated her curves.

I walked into her office and shut the door behind me. The moment she noticed me, her face lit up with a smile. One that I didn’t return.

“I just finished sorting out the files—I think I’m really getting the hang of this.” She said, excited.

My hands clenched into fists, and I quickly shoved them into my pockets. Without bothering to respond to what she’d said, I moved on to the reason I was here.

“Three days from now you’ll be signing the documents regarding the will. The assets would be moved under your name, and you would do as you wish with it.”

Her smile disappeared.

I could hear her heart rate speed up. Every part of me wanted to reach out to her, but I couldn’t do that.

“You’re going to send me away, aren’t you?” She asked, her voice so low, she might have been talking to herself. Either way, I didn’t have an answ

It was only a few minutes to midnight when Wraith returned.I spotted a few bruises on his face, but the smile he wore kept me from asking.“Well, it’s time.” He says, just as excited as I was.He quickly took off his clothes, leaving only his dark colored pants on. I watched him, not bothering to hide the fact that I was checking him out.And then, He led me out of the packhouse, dressing in nothing but my nightgown.“Where are we going to?” I asked.“The woods.”The thought of being in the woods at midnight, surrounded by wolves, wasn’t a very calming thought, but the excitement outweighed the worry. And then I heard it—a howl, echoing from somewhere in the distance.I couldn’t tell how far away the wolf was, but I knew it was coming from the woods. “A wolf?” I questioned, though I already knew the answer to that.“It’s Rex.”“How do you know that?” I asked. My question is soon answered when another howl rises in response—and then many more join in.The howls fill the once-silent n

TESSA’S POVI couldn’t believe I was in Wraith’s room. I’d slept in his bed, and he had stayed right by my side until morning. His sheets smelled like him, and I couldn’t help but pull them closer to take a deep inhale. The sound of the shower running told me exactly where Wraith was. I fought the urge to sneak into the bathroom—partly because I wasn’t sure I was welcome, and partly because I was afraid I might be. I was still sore, so I made the smarter decision to stay in bed.Wraith had finally opened up to me last night; he’d told me about his parents and his pack—his past. That had been what I’d always wanted: Wraith’s trust. But the revelation had been... scary, for so many reasons. Now I finally understood the rivalry between him and the Callisters and he had every damned right to hate them. If I’d had caring and loving parents and they’d both been murdered along with everyone I grew up with—that'd be more than enough reason to not just seek vengeance but to hate the murderer

Our moans filled the room, bodies slick with sweat as I thrust deeper into her—kissing her, drinking in every sound she made. Her fingers dug into my back, hard enough to draw blood, and fuck, that turned me on even more.I’d once thought her too fragile. I’d never been so wrong. She trailed kisses down my neck, and if she goes on like this, I might just lose every bit of control. I couldn’t allow that. And so I captured her lips once again, my hands wrapped possessively around her neck, careful not to choke her. as I pounded into her. My body shuddered with release threatening to break free, but I held back—I needed her undone first.I couldn’t imagine what the past few days had been like for her.The words ‘I love you’ were at the tip of my tongue, but this wasn’t the right moment—not when we were so caught up in the heat of it. I felt her writhe against me, crying out my name as she came so hard, she took me along.“Fuck. That felt so good.” I admitted. Her head fell onto my shoul

ALPHA REX’S POVThere was a knock at the door. I’d been expecting Wraith’s visit for the past few hours, so I was quick to pull it open. But instead of him, I was met with a scantily dressed woman—one of my favorite playthings.Anyone with a brain would know this wasn’t the right time, but of course, beauty doesn’t always come with brains.“Get lost.”“But—”“I never thought I’d live to see a day like this,” came Wraith’s voice. The woman, finally giving up, turned and walked away. Only after she was gone did Wraith finish his sentence. “The day you turn down sex.”“Well, she wasn’t exactly the visitor I was expecting.”I let him in.Only a few hours had passed since he regained consciousness. The pack members had seen him in the dining room with the human, Tessa.Part of me resented not being the first person he came to, but this man had spent the last week in the infirmary after saving my life; so I forced the thought down.I checked him over for any signs of pain or discomfort, bu

TESSA’S POVI’d only left Wraith’s side to freshen up, returning as soon as I could. Now, I sat beside him, watching him—studying every feature. I reached out to brush his hair away from his eyes. My chest tightened as I stared at him, at the tattoo he had told me meant a ‘promise.’ At those soft red lips.I couldn’t wait to see him open those eyes. But then, the thought resurfaced. The truth about who my father was.I had Falcone’s blood flowing through my veins, and no matter how much I tried to deny it, it was the only truth that made sense.A valid explanation to why a common human like me ended up as a mate to a man as powerful as Wraith.I would have to tell him.I planned to tell him the moment he awoke, even if it wasn’t exactly the best timing. Because deep down, I knew if I didn’t speak then, I might never have the courage to speak at all. Each day, I prepared myself for the inevitable. I even had a paragraph prepared and memorized on how I’d begin when the time came.Wraith

I punched him hard, in the nose. He staggered backwards, hands over his bleeding nose, but his smile remained.“Look again.” I growled. “Do you remember this woman?”Now he was furious. He reached down, and for a second, I thought he was going for his weapon—But he snatched the picture from my hand instead. The only picture I had of my mother, he turned it over and tore out a portion with his teeth, spitting it at me.“How could I forget her? Those beautiful, enchanting green eyes are just simply unique.” He said with a smirk stretching on his lips. “Your father with the leg issue. He tried so fucking hard to protect his mate, but he was no match for me, not even when he had his two legs.Your mother cried only for a little while, but then… she stopped. She accepted her fate. He didn’t; he tried over and over to save her and failed. He died with the memory of his mate being hung to death right in front of his very eyes.”I let out a roar of pure fury as I lunged at him, bringing him
