“What...what now?” she asked, her voice barely a whisper. She looked at the body sprawled at her feet, then back at me.

“Now,” I said, my voice dropping, becoming softer, more intimate, “we deal with the aftermath.” I tucked the knife into my belt. My gaze held hers. This moment, this shared kill, this brutal baptism. It had forged a new link between us, darker and stronger than before.

I leaned in, slowly, giving her time to react, to pull away. She didn’t. She stood her ground, her eyes wide, watching me, waiting. Her scent, a mix of her own unique musk, blood, and fear turned adrenaline, was intoxicating.

My lips brushed hers, a feather-light touch. Not a kiss of passion, not like before. This was something different. Slower. Deeper. An acknowledgment. A claiming. A reward.

She let out a shaky breath, her eyelids fluttering closed. Her lips were soft, pliant under mine. I deepened the kiss, slowly, deliberately, tasting her, tasting the lingering metallic tang of blood and

He led the way down into the valley, the roar of the falls growing louder, drowning out all other sound. The air was thick with mist, clinging to us, soaking our clothes. We reached the base of the falls, a maelstrom of churning water and deafening noise. “The entrance is behind the main cascade, about halfway up.” Austin yelled over the roar. “There’s a ledge, usually slick with moss. We’ll need to climb. The spray will cover our scent, mostly.” Climbing the wet, slippery rocks beside a thundering waterfall was terrifying. My fingers, raw and aching, scrabbled for purchase. The spray blinded me, the noise disoriented me. But Austin was there, a dark shape just ahead, his presence a strange sort of reassurance. He moved with a confidence that bordered on arrogance, as if daring the elements to defy him. He found the ledge, a narrow, treacherous path hidden behind the curtain of water. It led into a dark, damp tunnel that smelled of wet rock and something wolf. The scent was strong

SELENA_____The last night before we moved on the pack, the air in our hidden little camp crackled with a tension so thick, I could almost taste it – metallic, like unshed blood. Austin had been different. Still the cold, calculating bastard I knew, but the edges were softer when he looked at me, when he spoke. That night, after the ...distraction...he’d been quiet, watchful. His gentleness was a dangerous thing, more unsettling than his usual harshness because it made me forget, just for a second, what he was. What we both were.“Ready Freckles?” he asked, his voice a low rumble in the pre dawn gloom. We’d packed our minimal gear, the rucksacks feeling heavy on our shoulders, filled with weapons, a little food, and the weight of our purpose.I nodded, my throat too tight for words. My wolf paced under my skin, a restless, eager thing. Revenge was a hunger, and I was starving. “As I’ll ever be.”“The approach to the Sunken Veil will be the first test.” he said, his eyes scanning th

I continued my assault, my tongue relentless, my fingers now joining in, parting her, exploring her wet heat, stretching her, preparing her. Her whimpers turned into small, broken sobs, her body thrashing beneath me. The desperation in her, the sheer, unadulterated need.... it was intoxicating. Finally, when I could feel her inner muscles clenching, spasming, when her cries became incoherent, desperate pleas, I focused all my attention on that single, throbbing point of her pleasure. My tongue moved with a fierce, targeted precision. Her orgasm, when it finally ripped through her, was a violent, shattering thing. She screamed, a raw, animalistic sound that was swallowed by the night, her body convulsing, her nails digging into my scalp. I held her down, my mouth still fused to her, drinking in her release, feeling the powerful aftershocks rack her small frame. She lay panting beneath me, boneless, trembling, her eyes glazed, unfocused. Sweat slicked her skin, mingling with the sce

Her skin was cool, yes, but beneath it, I could feel the heat, the frantic pulse. My touch lingered, my thumb stroking the soft skin. Her eyes, when she finally lifted them to mine, were wide, dark, and filled with a confusing mix of fear and. awareness. That familiar, unwanted, yet undeniable spark. “Austin....” she whispered, her voice a breathy invitation and a warning all in one. “The night is long, Freckles,” I said, my voice dropping, becoming rougher. “And the waiting... the waiting can be the hardest part.” My gaze dropped to her lips, slightly parted, inviting. “Perhaps we need a distraction.” Her breath hitched. She knew what I meant. The air between us crackled, the unspoken desires, the raw, animalistic need, amplified by the looming danger. This wasn’t about love, or tenderness. This was about survival. About staving off the darkness, if only for a little while. About a desperate, almost violent affirmation of life before we stepped into the shadow of death. “A distr

  • The Rogue's Reluctant Mate   45 - Possessiveness

“When do we move?” she asked “Tonight. Under cover of darkness. We’ll approach the falls from the south ridge. It’s treacherous, but less likely to be heavily patrolled.” I paused. “Are you ready for this Selena? Truly ready? Once we step onto pack land, there’s no turning back. It’s kill or be killed.” “I told youAustin,” she said, her voice low and steady, her eyes like chips of amber in the dim light. “I was born for this.” Her certainty, her unwavering focus… it was a strange comfort. She wasn’t just a weapon I’d forged. She was...a partner in this. A very dangerous, very capable partner. And my mate. The thought still jarred, even after all this time. But the possessiveness that came with it, the primal urge to protect her, to claim her, it was undeniable. Especially now, on the brink of war. Especially now when I was about to take my rightful place as the alpha. The day passed in a tense, simmering silence. We checked our gear, ate sparingly, conserved our energy. I sp

AUSTIN_____The air changed the closer we got. Thicker. Heavier. It stank of old memories and fresh fear. My pack lands. Or what used to be my pack lands, before Vorlag, that bastard, and then my equally charming brother Henry, had turned it into their personal cage. Years I’d stayed away, building my own empire, burying the wolf that howled for retribution. Now, here I was, on the goddamn precipiceSelena was quiet beside me in the pre dawn gloom of our makeshift camp. Too quiet. I could feel her tension through the bond, a thrumming wire of anxiety and anticipation that mirrored my own, though mine was buried deeper, colder. She was looking towards the Whisperwind Peaks, her honey brown eyes narrowed, probably seeing ghosts. We all had them here.“Can you smell it Freckles?” I asked, my voice a low rasp. I was cleaning my SIG, the familiar ritual a small comfort in the disquiet of my own mind. She nodded, her gaze not leaving the distant, dark silhouette of the mountains. “Fear
