Chapter: Jason
I stood frozen, as if turned to stone, watching Elizabeth run towards the restaurant. “Helios, what was that? What did she do?” I asked in astonishment. “Her wolf… her wolf did something,” he growled. “Yes, I’d gathered that much,” I replied irritably. Helios was clearly angered by my sharp retort; he immediately withdrew and blocked me out. Damn. I was completely tangled up inside. On one hand, I was furious that she had decided what I should do. She had stopped me from going after Sam. That wasn’t her concern, it wasn’t her place. On the other hand, I was utterly captivated by what had just happened. Helios had taken over the moment Elizabeth undermined our authority. Helios wasn’t necessarily dangerous, but he could sometimes become more aggressive than necessary. Her wolf had forced him back within seconds. Forced wasn’t even the right word — I could feel how Helios obeyed of his own free will when it happened. The problem was… Helios never obeyed any wolf.I began walking s

Chapter: Elizabeth
I watched Mike as we drove to Moonshire Park. He looked a little stressed and tired. His black hair was messy, and his brown eyes seemed weary. "Are you alright?" I asked him, my voice filled with concern. Mike didn’t respond—he was clearly lost in thought. I placed my hand on his leg, and a slight tingling sensation spread across my skin from the touch. Mike remained silent the entire way, and I kept glancing at him with a worried look. It was as if he wasn’t even aware of my presence. Once we arrived at the car park of the park, he sighed before taking the keys out of the ignition. I looked at him with a deep frown. "Mike?" He looked at me in surprise. "Yeah? What is it?" "Are you sure you're okay, Mike? You've been distant the whole drive, and you didn’t even react when I spoke to you—or even when I placed my hand on your leg." I said with a worried voice. Mike seemed startled for a moment, but then slowly shook his head with a faint smile on his face. "No, Lizzy, I was jus

Chapter: Jason
JasonOnce I was home, my thoughts kept drifting back to Elizabeth. The entire evening had felt so natural, as if we had known each other for years. Not once did I get the sense that she only saw my titles — Alpha, or Head of the Council. No, she seemed to see me. Something I was no longer used to.From a young age, I had always been treated as someone above the rest. It began the moment other wolves realised who my father was. Since then, I’ve never really known whether people were sincere, or simply wanted something from me because of my status.Elizabeth was different. She knew exactly who I was, and yet she spoke to me as if I were her equal.Helios gave a low rumble. He wasn’t sure whether to interpret it as undermining the Alpha or as something… good.Suddenly, I heard a soft cough. I looked around and saw Betty standing in the kitchen doorway.“Sorry, Alpha. I just wanted to let you know that Annabelle has a date tonight, and the agreed time to be home is half past ten,” she sa

Chapter: Elizabeth
I was so surprised that Jason had made dinner for the both of us that I completely forgot Mike was supposed to be at my door at nine o’clock. It wasn’t until he called that I came back down to earth. It was already nine, and there I was, sipping wine with Jason as if he were a close friend instead of my boss.I was jolted back to reality, and the moment I saw Mike’s name appear on my phone screen as an incoming call, I was overcome with guilt. Guilt towards Mike, even though I didn’t really have anything to feel guilty about—other than having lost track of time, and the fact that he was probably calling to say he’d be leaving for my place any moment.I also felt incredibly guilty towards Jason—I had left so abruptly. What must he think of me?At that same moment, my thoughts drifted back to what had happened with Ryan earlier today.I was really disappointed in myself for having told Jason what I had noticed and thought about Ryan. What if I had misinterpreted the whole thing?Ryan mu

Chapter: Jason
Jason As I walked through the bookcase door, I heard the elevator open and her familiar scent immediately spread through the entire space. I paused for a moment. I saw her step out of the elevator and come to a brief halt. She seemed to scan her surroundings before continuing to her locker. She grabbed her uniform and walked into the bathroom. She clearly hadn’t noticed I was standing on the stairs. I calmly walked further down and sat at the dining table. Not long after, Elizabeth came out of the bathroom, still buttoning up her blouse. She still hadn’t realized I was in the room. While buttoning, she walked into the kitchen and turned on the coffee machine. Just as she turned back around, giving me a full view, I cleared my throat. Although she must have been startled, she kept her posture and expression neutral. To my surprise, she didn’t turn around, didn’t walk away—no, she just stood there. Casually, she continued buttoning her blouse. Only once all the buttons were done and s

Chapter: Elizabeth
I was lying on my bed, staring at my bracelet. I had tried to take it off before going to work this morning, but somehow I couldn’t get a good grip on the clasp to open it. Eventually, I gave up. Fortunately, no one had noticed—it was the engraving on it that embarrassed me.Wearing a mark on your neck is something to be proud of, a way to let the world know you're bonded to your mate. But this bracelet just made it look like someone saw me as their property. I knew Mike didn’t mean it like that—of course he didn’t, he’d never mean it that way. But that didn’t change how the message might come across to others.I started fiddling with the clasp again, but after half an hour, I gave up once more. Maybe I could stop by a jeweler this week to help me get it off—assuming I didn’t have to work until eight every workday.I knew only my start time was known; my workday didn’t end until Jason Moon—Alpha Jason Moon—left the office.I couldn’t help but think about Jason. He’d reacted like he al
