Loved By A Shadow

Loved By A Shadow

Eden Taylor thought she knew what heartbreak felt like ... until the day found out her fiancee was having an affair with her sister. Betrayed and broken, she fled the wreckage of her life, searching for peace in the mountains. There, she meets Everett, a man both magnetic and terrifying .. a being who claims to belong to the dark itself. Bound by forces neither of them understand, Eden feels her world shifting the moment they touch. The connection between them awakens something deep within her .. a light he’s been searching for since the dawn of time. Everett is no myth or monster. He is the God of Shadows, cursed to dwell in darkness, unable to move in daylight unless the Goddess of Light accepts him. That goddess, reborn in mortal form, is Eden .. though she doesn’t yet know it. As Everett slowly earns her trust, showing her the truth behind her fractured world, the bond between them deepens into something dangerous .. something divine. But ancient forces stir against them. Wraiths from the void break through the veil, drawn to her light and his defiance. When Eden nearly dies, Everett shatters every rule of their universe to bring her back... binding their souls in ways that neither heaven nor hell can undo. The mortal world believes she vanished for weeks, but she returns changed, her blood humming with the memory of him. Ben, her ex-fiancé, sees only madness... until Everett’s voice tears through the night with a warning that freezes his blood: “Get your fing hands off my light.”* Now, Eden stands between two worlds, the human life that betrayed her and the god who would burn the heavens to protect her. And in the war between light and shadow, love might just be the weapon that changes everything.

Chapter: Where Shadow's Meet
Eden woke with a start but kept her eyes firmly shut. Memories of the advancing shadows rushed in on her like a tsunami and the fear that hadn't left her in oblivion gripped her even harder. The ground beneath her was not pine needles and dirt but smooth and cold, she opened her eyes slowly and shock replaced the fear, she was laying on smooth black stone that shimmered faintly, as though polished by countless hands. She sat up too fast, her breath hitched and a wave of vertigo hit her hard, she was disoriented, her eyes darted around the cavernous black space, she spotted her canteen sitting beside her, and hurriedly grabbed it, realising it was now full to the brim with cold fresh water, she chugged gratefully. It definitely wasn't the forest, wasn't her camp. The air hummed with a low vibration that seemed to fizzle in the marrow of her bones. Shadows moved along the walls, not like natural ones cast by light into sheltered places, these were...alive, sliding and twisting in shape

Chapter: Flames of Protection
Eden stood rooted to the spot, the canteen hanging uselessly at her side,. Her eyes locked on the dark pocket of trees where the voice had spoken, she didn't breath, didn't blink...She was paralysed with shock. The silence stretched and yawned, her chest tightened with every passing second, and then the voice came again, steady and unshakeable... Closer even though the figure had not moved. "You're safe" He said "I wont let anything hurt you" Something inside her cracked loose at the words, her knees weakened and she was able to draw breath again, her skin still tingled from residual adrenaline, she didn't know what she felt, panic, relief....hope? The memory of the hikers grip still lingered on her body, a phantom pressure that made her stomach tighten, But the promise in the shadows steadied her somehow, it slowed the frantic racing of her thoughts. For the first time in the Mystic Mountains, since before Ben, she felt like she was home. This is crazy, IM CRAZY... she tho

Chapter: The Madman's Warning
The hiker, Markus looked up at her, the shock of her actions seemed to have snapped him out of his delirium, he began to speak, his lips coated in fresh blood still pouring gently from his nose. "We,... We thought it was just an easy trail" He stammered, his shoulders sagged in defeat. "We just wanted to go hiking, there were 6 of us all together, we thought we were safe because of how big our group was.... We were wrong, They..T-They were my friends" His eyes scanned the treeline nervously, the sound of his voice still seemed to hang on the branches after the call from beyond the clearing. Eden had bigger priorities, that voice no longer scared her, she had known that voice as soon as she heard it... She knew the owner of this voice would never hurt her, it was a soul deep instinct."The forest" He continued, snapping Eden back to attention. "It-it isn't right, the paths, they move.. The air, it, it just feels wrong... And the shadows...""What do you mean, Shadows?" Eden pressed, su

Chapter: Blood in The Pines
No answer came from her whispered thanks, although she knew he heard her, the tether in her chest pulsed with heat as she looked around the still forest, and she realised. It was him that was pulling her onward, he was her destination, her destiny. He left her gifts and seemed to want to help her, so why was she so often afraid? why did the shadow sometimes feel sinister? unless.....She decided to save her pondering until comfortable and safe at her final campsite, she began a slow, careful trek now, her balance still slightly unsteady after her fall, careful of more raised roots and trip hazards. Eden eventually reached a slight curve in the path, she made her way around the bend and then she saw it.A ragged scrap of fabric, snagged on a skeletal branch, at first she thought it was a plastic bag caught by the wind, but as she drew closer, curiosity winning out, its true form revealed itself. A jacket, dark with mud stains, one sleeve torn wide open as if it had been smashed with so

Chapter: The Figure In The Darkness
The night was still and peaceful.Eden curled in her sleeping bag, the fire outside reduced to a calming red glow, the moonlight coated the clearing in a pleasant silver glow. For the first time since entering the mountains, Eden felt completely at ease and her body surrendered to sleep without resistance. After a few hours of a peaceful, dreamless sleep, something startled her awake, at first she thought it was the sound of the wind whipping through the trees, she opened her eyes blearily and froze.A shadow stretched across the canvas of her tent, tall and broad shouldered the thing stood, unmoving. Her eyes widened in shock, all she could do was stare at the shape that seemed to have appeared out of thin air.The silhouette lingered, its head tilted slightly as if it could see her through the fabric of her tent, studying her. The outline was unmistakably human in shape, but also somehow distorted, as if it wasn't completely solid, the outlines of the shape coiled like smoke. Eden s

Chapter: Footprints of Ash
Eden lay frozen inside her plush sleeping bag, her own name still echoing in her ears after hours had passed with no more sounds. Her name, why her name? whispered like a vow, like a claim. The night pressed in thick and heavy, silence stretched to breaking point as she continued to strain her ears. Then came the sound.Soft footsteps were retreating through the undergrowth, slowly, leisurely, as though the owner had all the time in the world. As if the one who had spoken knew she wasn't going anywhere, that she was unable to move. Her throat ached with the scream she hadn't allowed herself to release, she forced herself to take slow, even breaths afraid even the sound of air coming from her tent would call him back. Minutes blurred into hours as she waited for the thing to come back. She didn't remember falling asleep again, or even relaxing her clenched muscles, she only had a vague memory of the surprising mercy of the darkness, swallowing her until the silver light of dawn seeped

Chapter: The Escape
Amethyst was still laughing hysterically, Lena was about to ask for a second time when a loud THUD interrupted the thought... Another... And then nothing but silence.Lena’s breath caught in her throat and Amethyst’s laughter stopped instantly “What the fuck was that?” “Somethings happening” Amethyst replied cautiously, “The other Luna’s, they’re outside the door”Lena rushed to the door, worried for their safety, when she opened it, she couldn’t believe her eyes. Both the guards were slumped on the floor, their eyes open but unseeing, they were dead. The smell of adrenaline and fear permitted the hallway and the three Luna’s stood above them.Kate was shaking so badly it almost looked like she was vibrating, Lorna’s face was pale but determined, Ally’s eyes darted everywhere, she alone looked polished and poised, a true Luna, Lena thought.“Lets get going” Ally hissed in an authorative tone “We don’t have time to stand around”“What happened?!” Lena demanded.Kate sobbed harder tha

Chapter: Amethyst's Tale
Lena's nose burned with the scent of bleach as she paced around her room, a lot had changed in the past 24 hours. Bars had been added to her windows, her bedroom doors had been replaced with heavy, metal ones and a small red light blinking in the corner reminded her she was under constant surveillance. She could hear everything... it was too much, her every sense was heightening hourly. A cough from outside the door was yet another reminder of her imprisonment, guards had been posted since she woke up. Her memories were foggy and she felt the telltale drag of the Moonbane pulling at her limbs, she was injected as soon as she awoke. But it didn't seem to be as effective as she first few times, she could still walk and move with almost no weakness. "You should at least act like You're weakened, you know" A soft chuckle sounded in her mind 'AMETHYST?" Lena exclaimed "Who else would it be?" Her voice sounded different, somehow rougher, but it was definitely her. "I.. I just expected

Chapter: Royal Arrangements
BANE POV:Esther stood in front of Bane's desk, reading the schedule on her tablet. "The royal tour will begin in three weeks, Your Majesty. We'll Start in the north, move through the western border packs and then finish in Stormhold territory....""No" Bane cut her off, his tone was soft, but there was an unmistakeable edge to his voice. "We will START in Stormhold."Esther froze, glancing at the Emperors Beta for help. "That would mean doubling back hallways through the route, sire. The council has already expressed concern about the strain of the travel and planning...not to mention the optics of starting the tour with ...well ...Stormhold."Bane's head tilted slightly "Optics?"Esther hesitated before she answered, "Some of the council members feel it would look .... Confrontational, if we were to start there, when we would be passing other packs and territories to reach it.""Exactly" He replied simply.Simon cleared his throat carefully to attract his Emperors attention "It is r

Chapter: The Price of Power
The room still buzzed with the echo of her power. The chandelier lay smashed on the floor, the air was thick with tension and shock. The Luna's stood stock still against the wall and Darius stood in the middle of the wreckage, his blistered hand was healing in front of her eyes. He was furious, his eyes were murderous, she was surprised he remained in human form, he clearly had more restraint than she thought.Lena swayed on her feet but refused to fall, her body was trembling and her veins still prickled with the residual power, but it had weakened her immensely, she felt exhaustion dragging at her limbs and Amethyst's voice became fuzzy."Pathetic" Darius spat at her "You think you're strong? LOOK AT YOU, you can barely stand, You're nothing""You will never touch me again" She hissed back at him."Bold words coming from a half dead Luna" He laughed... His eyes flicked to Reid "Contain her"Reid didn't move "Alpha...She's unstable, she has power she can't control.""DO IT!" Darius's

Chapter: Darius's Demand
"He's early, he wasn't supposed to come for another week" Annie's fearful hiss penetrated Lena's uneasy sleep and she opened her eyes."Yes, probably because of the new Luna" Helga whispered back, more composed than Annie. "It'll be fine, but we need to get her ready".Lena's chest tightened with anxiety WHAT NOW? "I can hear you both you know" Lena snapped at the door, it opened quietly and Annie and Helga entered the room with their heads bowed"S..Sorry Luna, The Alpha is coming, we need to hurry" Annie said urgently, Lena was still barely awake and surrendered to their fussing, they dressed her in a plain purple gown and styled her hair up with loose curls hanging down her face. They worked fast, by the time she had gotten her bearings, they were putting shoes on her feet and leading her out of the room. They made their way to the same dining room that Lena had met the other Luna's the night before, she was pleased she was able to walk on her own this time, her physical ability s
