OF HEIRS AND RUIN

OF HEIRS AND RUIN

“This time”, he said quietly “you won’t walk away untouched.” He walked away. Two years after her father is convicted of murdering Holly Voss, Keira Reed arrives at Blackthorn University on a scholarship, hoping for a chance at a normal life. Instead, she is forced to confront the past she tried to escape when she comes face to face with Adrian Voss, the son of the woman her father was accused of killing. As Keira struggles to navigate a world dominated by wealth and legacy, she begins receiving anonymous messages from a source known only as Judas. The information she receives suggests that her father may have been framed, and that the truth behind the murder was deliberately hidden. Her search for answers leads her into a web of buried secrets tied to powerful families and a secret society that operates from the shadows. The deeper she investigates, the more she realizes that the case against her father was only part of something much larger. Caught between suspicion, danger, and a growing connection with Adrian, Keira must decide how far she is willing to go to uncover the truth. Because at Blackthorn, power protects its own. And some secrets were never meant to be exposed.

Chapter: CHAPTER 6
I had moved to bed with the contents of the envelope and turned on my laptop. I looked at the flash one more time before plugging it in with shaky hands. There was a number of folders on it. Some about Voss & Pierre Industries, phone bills and records, “Pierre and Voss case”.. I realized my body was shaking, I clicked on that folder.“The Holly Voss murder” I would never forget the day she passed. I skimmed through. The phone rang just as I was about to close the laptop. I froze. It wasn’t my phone. The sound was louder and unfamiliar. For a second, I just sat there, my heart picking up pace as the ringing continued. Then I realized. The burner phone. It lay on my bed where I had left it, dark and still except for the screen now lighting up with each ring."Unknown number".My throat went dry. I hadn’t touched it since I turned it out the envelope. It rang again, and again. Whoever was calling wasn’t going to stop. I reached for it slowly, like it might burn me if I moved too fast. F

Chapter: Chapter 5
I woke up Saturday morning to the smell of coffee and pastries, I rolled on my back, my head was pounding. I hated hangovers.“Rise and shine princesa!” Marti sang.I cracked an eye open to look at her, she didn’t look like the limp dollI I had struggled to move up the the stairs and into bed. She had on a blue casual two piece. I groaned and grabbed my phone.“It’s 10:34 already!” I whined. “It doesn’t even feel like I slept that long. And how are up and active? You were shit face drunk yesterday.” I continued.Marti chuckled, “I just take a hot bath, down some aspirin and i’m half way good, with some sugary pastries and latte, the magic is done.” She listed smiling proudly. I was looking at her like poster.“You did all that this morning? I didn’t even hear the door creak.”“I didn’t want to wake you.” She said handing me a bottle of water and handed me a card of aspirin. I took one.“I got you a latte and powdered doughnut. You’re welcome.” She said grinning. I lifted myself up and

Chapter: CHAPTER 4
I had sat at my study desk for nerve wracking moment wondering who and why? I kept studying the paper. Thinking I’d find more clues. I didn’t. Marti would be back soon. I tucked the paper in one of my textbooks. I don’t remember the last time I had looked as good as I did now, thanks to Marti. “Trust your face in the hands of a Latina baddie.” She’d said, and she was right.Marti had gotten back quickly. She was so excited for her find. Surprisingly, she got me something too. “You’re gonna look amaaazzzing tonight!” She said shaking my shoulders. The face staring back at me in mirror looked like it could be on a magazine cover. My precurled copper blonde hair fell in a soft frame around my face, my brows had been brushed out and laid obediently, a brown mascara made my lashes fuller and longer. My eyelids were painted a shimmery bronze, a matte plum around the corners, with a highlight of soft gold on the inner corners, they accentuated my amber eyes beautifully . A metallic bronze

Chapter: CHAPTER 3
I basically crashed into Marti at the entrance of the Cafeteria. She’d arrived a few minutes before.“Hey, babes. What’s the hurry” she said steadying me.“Let’s grab a something cold first” I said offering her a pleading smile. She nodded. We walked in and ordered two cups of carbonated slushy, while we went through the menu.“You look flustered” Marti said to me. I grabbed a wet wipe from my bag and dabbed my forehead and cheeks.“One would think with how large this campus is, I’d be able to avoid Adrian” i huffed.“But he was at my second lecture today! At the same time I had to handle this invasive guy.” I said thinking back to what he had said.“Woah! Tough luck,” said Marti, her eyes widening. “You seem really affected. Did this other guy say anything to you, or is it just Adrian?” She said scanning my face. “I’m genuinely worried, I hope this doesn’t become dangerous for you.”I shook my head. I hoped so too.“Do you know a Sebastian?” I asked looking at Marti. Her brows scrunc

Chapter: CHAPTER 2
“Keira, are you alright?”, Martina asked as soon as we’d shut the door to our room.I pressed my back against the door hoping, what felt like I was keeping out whatever seeing energy I had picked up outside. The hot tears I’d held back poured down my cheeks, and the next moment I had face in my hands, a sobbing mess. Martina taken aback, which seemed to be all she’d be getting all morning, hugged me.I was surprised, I didn’t think she had grasped who I was from that encounter. I hoped she didn’t, because she wouldn’t be this considerate of me.As soon as Adrian walked away, I had stumbled away with burning glassy eyes to the dorm with Marti, following closely and quietly behind, I figured the encounter must have been surprising to her. And even now I knew i would not be able to speak to her about it. It was risky. When I had pulled myself together, she didn’t ask me anymore questions, I was relieved. The orientation week went by fast and with lots of settling in to do. I’d gathered f

Chapter: PROLOGUE- CHAPTER 1
PROLOGUEThe rain had started ten minutes ago.Holly Voss hated driving in storms, but tonight the weather was the least of her worries. Her fingers tightened around the steering wheel as the wipers dragged across the windshield again and again. She should never have agreed to meet him.The empty road stretched ahead, slick and dark beneath the headlights. The city lights of Blackthorn glowed faintly in the distance, but out here the world felt too quiet. Her phone buzzed in the passenger seat, another message .She glanced at the screen and felt her stomach drop.Unknown Number–“Turn around.”Holly’s pulse quickened. Her eyes flicked to the rearview mirror, at first she saw nothing but darkness. Then headlights appeared, far behind her, too steady and deliberate. Her breath caught, “No,” she whispered. The car behind her accelerated. Rain pounded harder now, drumming against the roof. The headlights grew brighter in the mirror until they filled the entire glass. She pressed harder on
