Plot pacing? Honestly, that's one of the first things I look at in a review after finishing something. If a book starts strong but then drags in the middle, I need to know. I've been burned too many times by novels that introduce a killer premise only to spend 200 pages on irrelevant subplots or characters I don't care about.
A review that talks about 'lagging' or 'a slow middle act' is a huge red flag for me. It means I might need to be in the right mood, maybe have the audiobook on a faster speed. But sometimes, a 'slow burn' can work if the atmosphere and character work is there. The trick is reviews that distinguish between intentionally slow pacing that builds tension versus just plain dull writing where nothing happens.
I rely on folks who break it down chapter-by-chapter or mention specific sections that drag. Saying 'the prison escape sequence felt rushed' tells me more than just 'the ending was fast'. It helps set my expectations. I might still read a book with uneven pacing if the characters are amazing, but at least I know to power through certain parts.
