Maya POV

They dragged me away from the hospital.

I struggled desperately to free myself, but the guards were far stronger than I was.

They shoved me into a black SUV and drove off.

Not long after, we arrived at Ethan’s mansion.

I was taken upstairs and locked inside my room.

The moment the door shut, I started banging against it immediately.

“Open the door!”

“Let me out!”

“Please!”

But every single plea fell on deaf ears.

No...

Please...

You can’t die.

Slowly, I sank onto the cold floor as sile

Ethan POVMy eyes slowly peeled open.My eyelids felt extremely weak, like even blinking was too much work.I blinked once, then again. My eyes slowly scanned the room and I realized I was still in the hospital. The room was slightly dim.I need to get out of here.Lying down here is draining me.I tried to move my hands, but it felt like I was carrying a hundred people at once. My arms wouldn’t respond properly. My entire body felt numb. What did they give me?My thoughts were scattered as different things flooded my mind. But one thought stood out clearly. One name stuck like glue in my head.Maya.Then that kiss at Grandma’s house flashed through my mind.It was just one moment… but it felt like it lasted forever.I didn’t think much about it then, but why is it suddenly clouding my head now?Is it because I’m in the hospital with nothing else to think about? No.I need to stop this. She’s the same.Hired by Mr Wellington for money.Always about money.I hissed softly and turned my

Vera POV I hissed loudly. Bitch! I went straight up to her room. It was locked as usual. I went in search of a spare key around the house, but I couldn't find any. How do they unlock a door without a key? Sighing hard, I brought out my phone and quickly searched it. I didn't find anything useful. I remembered hairpins always work on locks like that. I quickly dashed to Ethan's room and went through my stuff. I pulled out a hairpin from my makeup box and went back to the door. I twisted the hairpin and slid it through the keyhole. I twisted it, trying to open the door, but it still wouldn't budge. I groaned and threw the hairpin on the floor. This is useless. I hit the door in frustration and left it. I walked back to the living room. I have to get all her stuff out of this house. Maybe I'll call a locksmith to break down the door or replace the lock completely. I sat down and picked up the TV remote. The moment I turned it on, news about Ethan's accident flooded th

Maya POV What is she doing here? My thoughts were spiraling. She was staring at me, wearing that disgusting smirk I wanted nothing more than to slap away. She looked so healthy. Unlike before. Her clothes looked richer than I could remember. She took a step closer. “Why are you running, Maya?” she asked cockily. “I-I, uhm...” I swallowed hard. She chuckled. “Are you that shocked to see me?” I tightened my jaw, not saying a word. “I’m still alive, very alive. I don’t suppose you thought I was dead?” she asked. I exhaled slowly. “I wasn’t shocked o-or running. I was looking for... uhm, a friend. Yes, a friend. She stays in this house,” I said, turning towards the old house. I sounded so stupid. But anything to get out of here. She paused, then started laughing. “You’re still terrible at lying.” She took another step closer. Now she was inches away from me. “Oh Maya, I have been searching for you. I want my kids back,” she blurted. My expression changed instantly.

Maya POV Was that really Doris I saw? I turned around, scanning the faces in the cafe. I’m sure that was her. Though I only saw her back… but that’s her. I thought she left Valeriana. What the heck is she still doing here? I caught Mr James’ gaze and flashed him a light smile. If he really wants to help me, I can’t say no. Vera and Chloe are really getting out of hand. I wasn’t the one that married myself into Ethan’s life. I was married to help him become a better man by Mr Wellington. Even though I really don’t understand what that means. There’s no way I can change someone who hates everything and everyone. I sighed. I really pray that shouldn’t be Doris. There’s going to be a lot of trouble if it was her. “Why are you acting like this is your first time here?” I heard James’ voice. I turned back to him. “Oh, I was—I’m sorry. Can we go tomorrow then?” I asked. “Tomorrow? The meeting up with Audrey?” “Yes,” I nodded. “Maya, I already told you, you don’t need to

James pov She won’t believe me. And I’m only trying to help her. There’s no way she can do this on her own. I sighed heavily, my back resting against the seat in my bar room. How can I help her? I need something very plausible. Something she will believe without having a second doubt. But what? Mere words can’t work. Ethan is a killer. He killed Audrey and Clara. Well mostly Clara. Audrey’s body was never found. Only Lena got to live. He’s a murderer that got away with every little thing he does just because he has Mr Wellington backing him up. They always cover up his traces. I drank the wine in my hand, dropped the glass on the tray and stood up. This won’t be so hard. I brought out my phone and scrolled through my contact list. I dialed her number. She picked up immediately. “I think it’s time,” I said. There was a short pause. “Okay sir.” I ended the call. I’m doing this for your own good Maya. I really like you and don’t want you to end up like them. I

Chloe POVIf there’s another word for shocked,I need it right now.Because what just happened refuses to make sense to me.My cheek burned like hell.I spat blood onto the floor and wiped my mouth with the back of my hand. That crazy bitch actually slapped me.Me.I hissed and walked to my car, parked a few miles away from the mansion.I got in and sat still, still processing everything. Then I quickly unzipped my handbag and pulled out a handkerchief, dabbing the blood from my lips before bringing out my phone.I speed-dialed his number. He answered after a few rings.“Are you in now?”“In?!” I exploded. “You never told me there was another woman besides Maya in that house!”There was a pause.“I let you into that house for a reason. You don’t get to yell at me,” he said coldly. “Whatever problem you find yourself in, deal with it. You think getting Ethan will be easy?”His voice darkened.“Call me when you actually have something useful.”The call ended.I scoffed angrily. What is
