Steven's Pov
I watched silently as the woman across from me spoke tirelessly, the anger and frustration I was feeling inside me put me on the edge of losing my patient but I forced myself to calm down. If only I hadn't agreed to my grandfather's request to meet this blind date he had set up for me, I wouldn't be stuck here. But I'd had no choice, I had to meet up with this talkative woman, whose non-stop questions were grating on my nerves. “You don't have a girlfriend, right?" She asked, making me to sigh in annoyance. I didn't know why he had to go this far to force me to marry, despite knowing how my parents' marriage turned out like. That's why I'd always been leery of marriage - I didn't want to end up like my father. It wasn't because I didn't like woman, even on the contrary I love women, but only for their bodies. Which was why I hooked up with different girls every night to fill my desire. Which made the every news house took interest in me and named me the country playboy. I was fond of taking girls at club every night, but this thing about marriage? I just couldn't do it. . I wasn't a type of guy to believe in marriage or love, all I could think was that marriage was some kind of commitment, you live your life caring for someone, but in the end that person betrays you and leaves you on your own. Just like it happened to my parents. My parents broke up when I was only two years old. As I heard, my mother told my father that she wasn't in love with him, and their marriage was out of convenience for both families. So she left him to stay with the man she loved, and leaving me with him. And that made me grew up without mother's love, none that I complained, because without her I turned out well and I didn't give fuck to where she might be. However, my father who had already fallen in love with her couldn't bear the thought of losing her so he indulged himself into drinking, until one day that he got into an accident which claimed his life. So I didn't want to turn out like my father. As I heard from grandfather that my father was once a business mogul, who knew his way around business, but he lost himself only because of a woman. But the thing I couldn't understand was that, if that was what really happened to my parents why was he pushing me to get married. I just couldn't understand the old man. “I have already heard about you," she continued, cutting through my thought. “You are really a successful business man. The most successful young billionaire in the country. I wonder why you aren't married yet, or maybe we are meant to meet. We are destined for each other." She said happily, and her words made my skin crawl. Was she out of her fucking mind? My phone buzzed, and I checked it, my heart sinking as I saw the message from my grandfather. “Be good to her, or else you will lose your position to Peter." I sighed, feeling trapped, this was the only thing he was holding as a liability against me. Threatening me with my position as the CEO of the knight enterprises company. And no matter what, I was not ready to lose my position, I worked hard to get there. But still, I couldn't bring myself to like the woman sitting across from me. She was the opposite of everything I liked in woman - annoying, superficial, and clingy. “Why are you silent?" She asked, her voice grating on my nerves. “You haven't talked since you got here. Don't you like me?" “Yes," I answered immediately, “I don't like you, because I already got someone I am planning to marry." I said, watching as her face froze in shock for some moment. “Then if you have someone already, why did your grandfather send you here?" She asked, her eyes narrowed suspiciously. “Are you using that as an excuse to get away from here?" She questioned, staring at me skeptically. “If that's your plan, I'm sorry to announce to you that it won't work." “What?" I mumbled, arching an eyebrow. “And why is that?" “Because I'm already in love with you." She replied, and the corner of my mouth raised into a smile. It didn't surprise me because she wasn't the only one that would firstly say that. I heard that a lot. “You are every woman's dream, so how can I lose this opportunity to have you." “Didn't you hear me?" I asked, starting to lose my composure. “I said I already have someone else" “I know you didn't have anyone, and you are just trying to use that to escape." She said. “Really?" I replied, and I felt anger boiling inside me. Then my eyes scanned the place, desperate for an escape. That's when I saw her - a woman with her head hung low, and I saw a man following behind, calling her, as if trying to get her attention. It seemed that they were in some kind of argument which made her perfect shield to use to get away from this crazy woman. If it's not that she might report to grandfather, I would have made her regret coming to the blind date. But I couldn't do what might implicate me more. I stood up, walked over to her, and wrapped my arms around her. "Where were you, babe?" I asked, trying to sound convincing. Then I hugged her, she tried to push me away but I held her tightly, preventing her from breaking free. My date moved closer to us, a cunning smile played on her lips. “You think I will fall for this? You pick some random girl and think I will believe you?" My crazy date said, making me finally lose my coolness. “What do you think you...?" The woman's voice trailed off as I pressed my lips on hers. Her body stiffened, but she didn't pull away immediately which gave me a green light. I moved my lips over hers, slowly and gently, feeling a spark of strange attraction. I intended to end it only for a fleeting moment but the softness of her lips was too tempting to end it so soon. However, before I could deepen the kiss, my date yanked me away from her, causing anger to burned inside me immediately. “What are you doing?" She shrieked, her eyes reddened with anger. “What do you think?" I retorted. “I thought I told you that I have someone already. So will you get the fuck away from me now?" I shot her a glare and immediately she spun on her heels and stormed off, fuming with rage. “What..." The lady immediately pulled away, her eyes blazing with anger. “What do you think you are doing?" “Carly, do you know him?" The man behind her spoke up, but she ignored him. And I could sense a spark of tension between them. Boyfriend and girlfriend; dating. Tsk tsk, I clicked my tongue. It always ends the same way, a predictable way. I thought, smirking inwardly. Pulling the lady closer to me, “What do you think you are doing? What do you want with my girlfriend?" I demanded, my voice low and menacing. I looked at the lady's face and saw as her eyes widened in shock. The man chuckled nervously, “Hey, what do you think you are doing? She's my fiancee. How dare you..." “Did I hear you right? Who are you calling your fiancee?" I interjected him, my voice lacing with disdain. Then I faced the lady. “Babe, do you know him?" I asked, hoping that she would play along if she wanted me to save her. Her gaze met mine, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of understanding. She pulled a wary look. “No, I don't know who he is... Babe." She replied and the corner of my mouth curled into a smile, feeling a rush of triumph. “But...?" He began but I cut him off. “Will you get the fuck out of here? How dare you try to make a move on her." I snarled at him, and watched as he opened his mouth but couldn't say anything. Then I walked away with her, leaving his bewildered face behind.Steven's Pov "What the fuck?" I sighed exhaustively, rewatching the video Mark had shown me. I couldn't believe something like this could happen, especially after I had just convinced Grandfather about my fake wedding to keep my position. Now, he would be suspicious. Then I suddenly remembered that I was supposed to meet Carly at the boutique. Since I had something urgent to deal with, I had no other choice but to text her to try on her bridal dress without me.After sending the message, I dropped the phone on the table and held my temples with my hands. A mixture of emotions filled me as I stared dazedly at the iPad screen on my table. It was as if my whole body was about to burst from the conflicting feelings battling inside meMy eyes reddened, and my hands curled into tight balls as I developed a genuine hatred for the person who had taken the video of me at the bar. I swore effortlessly, wishing I could catch the person soon and let them know they had messed with the wrong perso
Carly's POV I stared at my phone screen grudgingly, resentment flaring within me. Why did Steven think he could just call and order me around without even asking if I was available? His bossy attitude was infuriating. He called, but without giving me a chance to speak he hung up the phone.Who did he think he was?I gripped my phone tightly, my lips pressed together as I struggled to contain the raw anger growing in me. His demeanor was really getting on my nerves and I couldn't help but wonder why I had agreed to this deal with him without finding out who he was.I opened the message box and saw the address he had sent. The name of the place seemed to be a boutique, and I assumed it was related to the wedding. But I had plans of my own, and Steven's sudden demand was inconvenient. Apart from packing my precious belongings from my own house. I had also promised Ana that I would meet her later to explain everything, but now it seemed I would have to postpone our meeting. She had dem
Steven's Pov I sat behind my desk, drowning in a sea of paperwork. My spine and joints ached like hell from hours of hunching over documents. I still had a mountain of work to finish, and the weight of it was crushing me.I stretched my neck and my arching wrist, and Just as I was about to delve back into the chaos, a knock at the door broke the silence. “Come in," I muttered, not bothering to look up.The door creaked open, and footsteps echoed through the room, drawing closer to me. I raised my head to see who it was, and my eyes met with my secretary's, whose eyes were barely opened. He seemed so tired and overwhelmed, like he was on the verge of collapse.“So, have you found the perfect place for wedding attire?" I asked, my eyes narrowing at him incredulously. Earlier, I had asked him to look for a perfect place where Carly and I could buy our wedding attires.“Yes sir," he replied, then leaning closer to me to show me the picture of the place on the tablet in his hands. “T
Steven's PovMy arms curled around her body in a careful and protective way, holding her close as I protected her from falling. I watched silently, intrigued, as she shut her eyes, as if she was expecting something. Anticipating something... A kiss from me?The thought sent a chill through my entire body, and for a moment, I considered giving in to my desires. And trust me, if I decided go with what was in my head. The voice in my head that said that I should kiss her, I wouldn't be able to stop myself, and surely it could lead to something else. But I didn't want to ruin our deal. I didn't want to complicate things. So I pushed the thought aside and focused on the present.“What are you doing?" I asked, a grin spreading across my face as I struggled to contain my laughter that threatened to rip out of my lips."What are you thinking?" I added, and immediately she snapped her eyes open, staring at me with an intensity that left me breathless. This woman was doing something to me, some
Carly's POV I watched as Steven moved to the driver's side, his silence deafening. He didn't even spare me a glance, and I could sense the gloomy atmosphere surrounding him. I didn't know why, but his silence was really killing me. I mean at least he supposed to say something, like sorry. He brought me here, only to make them insult me, and also he didn't give me chance to finish my meal before he told me we were leaving. So why was he acting sulky?“I don't know why you brought me here just to have me insulted." I said, my voice dripping with hurt and disappointment.I had thought it would be a normal dinner, but who knew that it would be wordy-bloody one. Steven's hand stopped on the car handle, and he turned to face me. Then leaving the other side of the car, he came to where I was standing, at the passenger side of the car. “It looks like you aren't the only one who was insulted." He pointed out, his eyes shimmering with anger from earlier that hadn't completely dissolved.
Carly's POV As soon as his grandfather left the dinning table, the atmosphere grew tensed. So tensed that I felt suffocating in their presence. I wondered if they were real family, their antagonistic attitude for one another was very palpable.“Wow, I'm impressed, Steven." The man who I assumed to be Steven's cousin's father said, because I could see the resemblance between two of them. "I didn't think you'd go such lengths to secure your position in the company."“Of course I need to protect what's mine. Why wouldn't I?" He retorted. “I worked so hard to get there, and I can't let my hard work go waste." Steven added, his voice steady, with no hint of fear.Wow, he had returned to the previous Steven, the one who was confident, arrogant and fearless. Unlike the one he had become In front of his grandfather.“So you are saying that you are hardworking?" And the one who I presumed to be the mother of the cousin, confronted him, “The country playboy claims himself for being hard worki
