Chapter Seven

A few days had passed since me and Roman had our moment in the kitchen... H*ll, it was more than a moment, but, since then, I had been keeping my distance. I hadn't been ignoring or avoiding him, If I saw him out and about, I'd say Hi or wave, but in general, I've been keeping away, for one simple reason...

Because he was right.

I keep going back and forth between leaving things how they were and just thinking ''f*ck it!'' and jumping him every time I saw him, despite who was around. I realised after he left that day, because my parents were due home soon, That he didn't actually say ''I love you too''. But, I tried not to think about that too much... the word being ''tried''.

Mum was off work today, it was funny before I had Haley, they NEVER took time off, which is why me and Roman were able to sneak around so much, but since she was off, we had made plans to go to lunch and do a bit of shopping. To be honest, it was the first time I was taking Haley to the mall and I couldn't wait to show her off.

I hadn't told anyone about my pregnancy except my family and my small group of close friends. I kept it off social media and I knew that the very few people who have known, hadn't told anyone.

I found it funny in a strange way that if I was to bump into anyone I knew they would be so surprised and shocked to see Haley.

'So, where do you want to go to lunch?' mum asked as I started dressing the baby in her ''going out clothes''... aka not a onesie. I just shrugged.

'I don't know... um... maybe just a burger place?'

'Don't you want anything nicer?' I shook my head. ''Nicer'' to my mum meant somewhere fancy and expensive and I didn't want to go anywhere like that with Haley. I'd be so stressed and embarrassed if she kicked off crying.

We carried on chatting while I finished sorting myself out and once Haley was in her car seat, we headed out...

******

Walking around the mall, I backed down and let mum get her way... Slightly. We were going somewhere nice but they served ''normal'' food. It also meant we had to make reservations and wait for another hour before we could go.

'Oh, I need to go here'. She announced before disappearing into a random shop. I signed, bored and followed her. Luckily, Haley had fallen asleep so she was no bother. I followed her around until I got bored and abandoned the shop, going to sit on a bench somewhere and waited for her.

I checked to make sure Haley was still settled and grabbed my phone out of my pocket and started keeping myself busy by playing an app game.

'Alex?' I looked up, hearing a familiar voice, freezing when I saw it was Beth. I used to work with her at Roman's company and well... She used to have s*x with Roman too.

'Oh, hi... Hi Beth, how are you?' I stood up and we awkwardly hugged each other.

'Yeah, I'm good, how have you been?' As soon as she asked, I saw her eyes flip down and she looked at Haley. 'Oh my god, is she-?'

'Yeah, yeah, this is my daughter'. She stepped closer and looked at her. I knew instantly what she was doing and I knew instantly when realisation washed over her face. She knew. She knew who her father was. She stood up and looked at me. I just awkwardly tried to pretend like nothing was wrong.

'Ok well... I'll see you later' I smiled politely and watched her leave before I panic-dialled Roman's number and waited for him to answer. It rang a few times before he eventually did.

'Hey? Is everything ok?'

'No, Did Beth know about us?' He was quiet for a minute, 'Did she?'

'I'm not sure, why?'

'I just saw her at the mall and she saw Haley and figured it out pretty quickly'. I heard him hiss ''Sh*t'' under his breath.

'She had suspicions but nothing concrete'.

'Well, I'd say Haley is pretty much all the concrete she needed.'

'Ok, ok, calm down, I'll sort it'.

'How? What if she tells someone?!'

'The only issue that would cause is your parents finding out. Legally we didn't do anything wrong'. Yeah, legally we didn't but morally... Well, that's a different story. I sighed. He was right. The only issues it could cause if mine and Roman's relationship... Or rather our past relationship got out, would be with my parents.

'How will you deal with it?' He was quiet again. 'Roman?'

'Roman?' I span around quickly hearing my mothers voice. She was standing there, looking at me, a blank expression.

Sh*t, how much did she hear?!

I bet her mom heard everything but keeps quiet because she knows how her husband would react. maybe she even supports her and Roman? She was the only one who really supported Alex when she was away, aside from Roman. Alex's dad will be the real problem
